Have you ever heard of the World’s Ugliest Dog contest? The competition has been taking place in California, US for more than fifty years. The winner of this year’s contest is an eight-year- old Pekingese named Wild Thang. This is Wild Thang’s fifth entry to the contest. After coming second on three prior occasions, Wild Thang finally won this year’s championship. As a puppy, Wild Thang caught a virus that rendered his teeth unable to grow, so his tongue always hangs out of his mouth. The goal of this contest is to encourage people to adopt dogs from shelter rather than buy them from breeders. The contest also wants people to celebrate the imperfection that makes them so special and unique. The owner of Wild Thang received $5000 and an appearance on NBC’s Today Show.
