This episode is an inspirational story about a person who simply refuses to give up on her childhood dream. When Kristie Ting was little, all she wanted to do was to own an ice cream truck so she could drive around and spread the joy of eating ice cream around. Her love of ice cream was passed down from her family, mainly her grandfather, who used to take her to McDonald to get soft-served ice cream. However it was during an exchange trip to Japan that solidified her passion for the dessert. She was exposed to a variety of interesting ice cream flavors, like matcha and peach melon (哈蜜瓜）. Despite her strong love for ice cream, she didn’t get a job involving it. Instead, she worked at an advertising firm, where she saw and experienced discrimination and bullying. She bided her time and quietly scheming about her next move. One day five years ago, while scrolling online, she saw a vintage ice cream van on sale. She jumped on the opportunity, and started her ice cream truck business before the pandemic hit. During the lockdowns, she was allowed to drive her ice cream truck to beaches and spread the joy to communities. Her story serves as a reminder of never giving up on your dream.
