He earned a bachelor's degree in physiology from McGill University in Montreal and a master's degree in exercise physiology from York University in Ontario.

Certified in orthopedic sports medicine, Dr. Tissenbaum has treated athletes at the high school, college and professional levels, including members of the Montreal Canadians and Expos.
