On Episode 127 of Totally Deep Podcast, Doug Stenclik and Randy Young of www.cripplecreekbc.com bring you the lowdown on the world of uphill and backcountry skiing and boarding. Gear, technique, fashion, jargon, guests, and assorted spray from folks who know how to earn it in the backcountry. The world's best backcountry skiing podcast.
Outside of the Roaring Fork Valley, you might know of John Gaston as that dude from out of town who came into your local scene, under the radar, and cleaned up. He's been doing as much in the mountain bike and skimo racing scenes for well over a decade at all levels of sport.
Sufferfest accolades include two podiums at the Leadville 100 and skimo stats that make the head spin: 13 skimo national championships and a most recent highlight placing 21st in the ISMF World Champs vertical race. In his spare time, along with a growing family, Gaston helps run Strafe outerwear.
What we get on episode 127 is Gaston amped up. There are opinions on the skimo scene and gravel, as well as which bike you should or shouldn't take on your next gravel ride. Spoiler alert: Gaston is fond of svellte but downhill-capable XC mountain bikes, as they are do-it-all and do-it-well steeds.
