On Episode 134 of Totally Deep Podcast, Doug Stenclik and Randy Young of www.cripplecreekbc.com bring you the lowdown on the world of uphill and backcountry skiing and boarding. Gear, technique, fashion, jargon, guests, and assorted spray from folks who know how to earn it in the backcountry. The world's best backcountry skiing podcast. There's no hate, only love, in this Olympics-themed episode. Well, to be clear, and to backtrack a bit, maybe just a bit of disdain. So...skimo. Yes, it was. Despite our deep respect for Anna Gibson and Cam Smith (Smith is a CB local!), the powers-that-be neutered what skimo (it is skimo, right?) can be. Maybe what we need is some more spice, as in more longform mo', as in mountaineering. Which means Doug and Randy go totally deep on their feelings about the Olympics, the multi-ringed circus, and moving the skimo scene forward as the 2030 Winter Olympics loom on the horizon. And speaking of the Olympics and local games, Doug provides an update on the Power of Four and the Gothic Mountain Tour. On Episode 134 of the Totally Deep Podcast:
- The hot takes begin, and Randy is pumped.
- Big quads (not the Quad God).
- Anna and Cam came in for a solid 4th place.
- The mixed relay blow-by-blow.
- A transition zone snafu by Spain.
- First exposure to the ski in the mo.
- The technical aspects of the racing and the next step for an Olympic ski-mountaineering race.
- The Gothic Mountain Tour and Power of Four blow-by-blow.
