In this episode I sit down with an old friend, Mike 'Irish Mike' Toner, owner of 'Thick as Thieves' & Co-owner of 'LUFT' festival. Mike is an absolute legend in every sense of the word. An expat from Ireland who took a passion and turned it into a career. Taking 'Thick as Thieves' from a business between friends to an Australian heavyweight in the dance industry - working with the likes of Patrick Topping, Claptone, Anna and more. Mike diversified his touring company into an events company with their main focus being on putting great, quality music first. This lead them in to Artist management and they have worked and help grow the likes of Boogs, Market Memories, Brian Fantana, Olly Davis, alongside many other names that have prospered in the Australian Dance Industry in the past decade.
In this podcast we discuss being an expat in the Australian music industry, record shops to digital platforms, being a resident in Melbourne's notorious Revolver for over 14 years, mental health in the dance industry, Mikes amazing work with Fred Hollows and his motivation behind it, his relationship with various international super stars & how he sees the current and future landscape of the Australian dance industry.
