Episode 68: Are You Willing To Do What It Takes?

Accomplishing a goal isn’t just about crossing the finish line, checking off the box, or seeing a specific number on a scale. It is about all the things you do along the way to reach that goal that counts. Focus not only on the big moment, but all the decisions that you make in between the start and finish.

That is the takeaway from my interview with my brother-in-law, Eric. He is a husband, father of two kids and salesman who happens to be a master of backyard cooking. With a grill, a smoker and assistance from his wife Emily for the side dishes, he can feed delicious, BBQ meals to anyone from just his family up to groups of 100 customers. As he feeds people his delicious food, he is empowered by the positive feedback he gets. He also gains the respect and loyalty of his customers and makes new business connections as he goes to the trouble to personally prepare food for them.

The joy of cooking is a skill he acquired after college and it has stuck with him and become natural to him. Together with his wife they produce most meals out of their own kitchen which are almost always healthier than eating out.

Exercising is very important to Eric. His fitness personality is someone who needs to get up very early, retreat to his home workout area, and get it done before anything else. It reduces stress and gets him amped up to take on his day. Feeling great and getting faster and stronger is almost an addiction to him. He loves it and needs it. He also loves the fact that his kids see his dedication and hard work and like to join him in exercising.

Eric strives to focus on the positives in life rather than the negatives. He believes in passing that attitude along to others to give them motivation to do the things they need to do.
