His career at The New York Times began in the early 1980s, covering various topics before focusing on wine in the late 1990s, then rising to Chief Wine Critic.  Eric's achievements extend beyond his columns and reviews. He is the author of several influential books on wine, including "How to Love Wine: A Memoir and Manifesto" and "Wine With Food: Pairing Notes and Recipes from The New York Times." His work has earned him numerous accolades, including the James Beard Foundation Award for his outstanding wine, spirits, or beer professional in 2013. 

Eric is a wealth of knowledge, a critical thinker, and one of the wine world's most articulate and progressive voices when it comes to educating audiences and publicizing the most interesting stories from the industry, in the US, and abroad. Here he shares some unique insights and brilliant perspectives on the "natural wine" movement, the growth of the wine industry, changes in expectations from wine drinkers, and generational shifts in approaches to food and wine in general.
