Escape From Vault Disney

DISCLAIMER: This episode was recorded and released prior to the arrest of one of its guests, Kyle Carrozza. We at Escape From Vault Disney strongly condemn Mr. Carrozza's actions and offer our deepest sympathies to his victims, and we will not be inviting him on this podcast again in the future. That said, rather than attempt to rewrite history, we have decided to leave this episode online and intact as a time capsule of when it was made. It's Week #4 of Patreon Request Month 2023, and the randomizer is going all the way back to 2023 to pick Tony Cogan's request for two specific episodes of the second volume of the series that boldly combined the two most reasonable fandoms known to man, Star Wars and anime! In season two, this series expanded its scope from just anime to animation styles from around the world, including, in these two episodes, those two countries that have always gotten along swimmingly with each other, Ireland and England!. Ireland's Cartoon Saloon studio, of The Secret of Kells and Wolfwalkers fame, brings us a striking, dark, violent, morally ambiguous fable about everything one must sacrifice to obtain one's goals in life, and England's Aardman Animation brings us a bright sunny claymation romp through what can only be described as "we have podracing at home," complete with slinky droids, Vader hairstyles and freaky-deaky claymation hippie wookiees! Join Tony Goldmark, Kyle A. Carrozza, Santana Maynard and Luke Ski as they take some powerful Star Wars hallucinogens and see some trippy STAR WARS: VISIONS, season two, episodes two and four, "Screecher's Reach" and "I Am Your Mother!" It's Week #3 of Patreon Request Month 2023, and the randomizer is going all the way back to 2007 to pick Jinx Productions and Jonathan Librach's request for the long-awaited (though I'm not sure by who) live action feature film adaptation of a 1960s animated series that millions of people watched in reruns while enthusiastically cheering "okay, I guess this exists!" And the movie boldly exists as well, transforming the uniquely-designed clothed bipedal dog-like characters in the cartoon into boring ordinary dogs, replacing Wally Cox's cartoony voice with the snarky rasp of the guy from Mallrats, and casting Tyrion Lannister and Kronk as the bad guys and unfairly expecting them to carry the whole damn movie when they don't really seem to feel like doing that. Also Joliet Jake's far-less-talented brother shows up to collect a paycheck. No, not Elwood, the other one. It's Week #2 of Patreon Request Month 2023, and the randomizer is going all the way back to 1997 to pick Andrew Weiss's request for Disney's very first live-action direct-to-video sequel, continuing the wacky adventures of Wayne Szalinski, the genius inventor played by easily one of the six or seven funniest people from SCTV (that's not an insult, they were just all really great and it's really hard to rank them) who miraculously invented a shrink ray that could solve world hunger and revolutionize practically every industry known to man, but instead was mostly used to shrink kids, shrink parents, shrink audiences and briefly turn a toddler into a kaiju. This third movie had the lowest budget of the three, and hoo boy does it show. This week, the randomizer kicks off Patreon Request Month 2023 by going all the way back to 2010 to pick Gordhan Rajani's request for an episode of an animated Marvel series that aired on Cartoon Network, in which the superheroes looked like Chibi knockoffs, called themselves "Squaddies" for some cosmically appalling reason, lived in a town with very few non-superheroes, and elected Stan Lee as their mayor until they didn't. Also we get to hear Wayne Knight graduate from voicing a guy dressed in a chicken suit (I just can't escape chicken suits) to a guy with a head shaped like an egg, but which came first maaaaaan? Join Tony Goldmark, Emily Clark, Laura Crone and Kyle Kallgren as they hero up for THE SUPER HERO SQUAD SHOW, season one, episode nineteen, "Election of Evil!" Check out my guests' stuff! Yet again, Tony Goldmark and David Ganssle continue making their way through the Not On Disney+ Month shortlist in alphabetical order! In this one, they briefly discuss The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band; One of Our Dinosaurs Is Missing; Oz the Great and Powerful; a buncha early shorts from the 1920s (specifically Kansas City's Spring Clean-Up, Alice's Wonderland, Trolley Troubles, Plane Crazy and The Skeleton Dance) and the 1980 Popeye movie!

This week, the randomizer goes all the way back to 2009 to pick yet another Disney Channel Original Movie, and in this case, it's a DCOM about that strange mysterious fantastical creature known colloquially as the "chicken." What is a chicken? Where did they come from? What do they want from us? Which came first, the chicken or the guy named Pete? What does a guy named Pete have to do with any of this? Why in God's name did the Disney Channel think it was a great idea to make a movie about a basketball mascot that's just an ugly chicken suit? Why is the town in said movie full of grown-ass adults with seemingly nothing better to do with their lives than obsess - there's no other word for it, OBSESS - over said ugly chicken suit? How long can you watch this movie before your nose starts bleeding? What's the meaning of life? What happens after we die? Regular or extra-crispy? And for the love of God, who the hell is Tommy? On this episode, we hope to answer at least none of those questions. Join Tony Goldmark, Morgan Funder, Brianna Garcia and Kit Leitmeyer as they name an egg "Pete" for some reason and take turns sitting on it for some completely unrelated other reason, and in the process hopefully succeed in HATCHING PETE! This week we're bypassing the randomizer for yet another Guest's Choice episode which also happens to be another Channel KRT crossover, in which the very awesome Kit Quinn "makes" us watch one of the very finest pieces of mainstream filmmaking of the 2010s, a megabudgeted CGI-heavy blockbuster tentpole sequel set in an expansive cinematic universe in which visionary writer/director James Gunn, rather than simply make a soulless cash grab and let the franchise spin its wheels, uses his uniquely enormous canvas to tell an emotionally affecting fable about the desperation of loss, the ripple effect of abuse, the joys and pitfalls of parenting, and ultimately the power of the bonds we form between each other. It's also got a talking raccoon, a character named "Taserface," a David Hasselhoff cameo, and a scene where the main character turns himself into Pac-Man. This week, the randomizer goes all the way back to 1956 to pick a relic from the bygone era when those mysterious newfangled "tele-visions" in people's houses would only broadcast shows at very specific dates and times, and if you wanted to watch something again, you had to wait for it to become a big-enough pop culture phenomenon to be repackaged for the big screen and shown at your local cinema. Fortunately, that very thing happened to Walt Disney's prequel miniseries about the original coonskin cap-wearing king of the wild frontier, and arguably the only former U.S. Congressman to have a #1 hit record written about him (unless of course you count those rumors that "WAP" was about Paul Ryan). Join Tony Goldmark, David Ganssle, Nicholas Bogroff Ganssle and Kit Quinn as they go kill bears with a three-year-old named DAVY CROCKETT AND THE RIVER PIRATES!
