This week, Beth, Ruchira and Oenone dip their toe in the fashion discourse, if 2025 Haute Couture is anything to go by, then quiet luxury and stealth wealth might be being booted out for loud luxury, extravagance and labels, sorry Sofia Richie Grainge!

Next up, Selena Gomez posted a tearful video on Instagram Stories on Monday, before quickly deleting the post. In the video, she responded to the US' nationwide immigration raids over the weekend, which saw the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrest 956 people on Sunday — the largest number of arrests on a single day under Trump. He announced several extreme executive orders on immigration from his first day. US Senate candidate Sam Parker called to 'deport Selena Gomez' on X, while the left basically called her self-involved. They ask, why do you think we’re so cynical of emotional outbursts online?

And last but by no means least, is society shifting now towards intentional and consensual round the clock tracking? Beth found a fascinating piece called “We are all Big Brother now: The largest system of surveillance isn’t run by the government or corporations. It’s the grass-roots panopticon we’re using to judge one another.” It was written by Alan Levinovitz, and published in the Boston Globe last June. At EIC headquarters the girls are quite worried!

This week on the extra episode, we discuss BrewDog founder James Watt's approach to work/life balance... which is to not have one. He came under fire after he shared a video of him and his fiancé, Georgia Toffolo, where he says, ‘so I just think the whole concept of work life balance was invented by people who hate the work that they do’, to which Georgia replies ‘it’s so true’.

After he received a huge amount of backlash, including unacceptable threats of violence, as well as lots of more balanced takes,  Watt asked on LinkedIn,  “What does it say about our society that a post extolling the virtues of hard work gets met with this kind of furious backlash?” calling it a “bizarre controversy”. He said: “As a nation, we love to joke about the French being lazy, but the reality is that our output per hour is 13 per cent lower than theirs."

 James Watt is worth an estimated 262 million pounds at present, and has also previously been accused of presiding over a “toxic” culture.

It's the penultimate episode of Everything is Content for 2024! Sadly Beth was travelling this week, so Oenone and Ruchira lead this very special extra episode. 

This week, the girls are in conversation with *the Emma Appleton*. You might know her as the lead from Dolly Alderton’s BBC adaptation of her memoir, Everything I Know About Love, but she’s now leading Paramount’s new rom-com series The Road Trip, based on the book of the same name by bestselling author Beth O’Leary.

The six part series starts with a wedding trip to Spain which takes an unexpected turn for Addie (played by Emma) and her sister Deb, when they're forced to share a campervan with Addie's ex Dylan, his friend Marcus, and a stranger Rodney.

Here at EIC headquarters we can confirm the series is a gorgeous look at relationships in your 20s, navigating life and what happens when it all goes wrong. 

The Road Trip will be available to stream on Paramount+ from 26th December 2024.

Ho-ho-how is it less than two weeks to Christmas already?!

Finally- one of the weirdest weeks online for a while. After the murder of a healthcare insurance CEO in New York, the internet is thirsting openly, unabashedly and without shame over his accused killer. Is this a symptom of the ongoing irony epidemic or are we just... missing the joke?
