A stellar lineup is in store that includes offensive linemen Julian Armella, Jaylen Early, Qae’shon Sapp, Jazston Turnetine, and Antavious Woody, alongside defensive lineman Ayobami Tifase and tight end Jerrale Powers.

The last-minute additions of Turnetine and Tifase put a stamp on a 20th-ranked recruiting class for 2022 adding to both fronts which have been in question throughout recent years and have had major upgrades coming from the portal and the high school ranks.

“I wanted to be part of something to change the culture. It wasn’t going to be handed to you. The biggest thing about everything, is that everybody is onboard. Everybody wants the same goal.”

“Honestly I know I have ties with my family and stuff like that but my main goal and objective was that I wanted to create my own legacy. I wanted to make sure that me and the guys will forever be imprinted and will forever have a mark at Florida State for the years that we are here.“

“Me and coach Atkins go back around like April of my sophomore year and yeah coach Atkins has been the same with me ever since I met him. He’s the same person here. Like, you know, I really respect him. He’s the most honest coach. (He’s) The most respected coach ever. I honestly have never met a coach like him.”

"It’s a brotherhood. We’ve been talking when we were all committed that's when we all got close. We all be texting, you know, we have like a little group chat or whatever. We all talk. We all just pick each other up, and build each other. We help each other out, you know, coach other so it's always a brotherhood.”

“I mean that process has been an amazing process. I mean for it to be expedited that fast and for me to become a part of a family that fast and really just learn my place here, its been an amazing process. I came here and I’ve already made some very strong connections with the football players and I’ve been entitled to a lot and it's what I like because I want to hold responsibilities as a young person myself.”

“I feel like, I bring like, someone who doesn’t just block but also doesn’t just run routes. I can learn how to do both very very good. (I’m) Just more faster and more physical. I just feel like with me playing receiver in HS and me now playing TE it helps when I combine the two. It helps a lot.“

“The transfer process was pretty hectic I’m not gonna lie. It’s just when I finally chose Tallahassee it was more out of the love and the specifics as far as ball”

“I saw that coach Atkins had a very good repertoire to give me and I had a lot of tools to pick from he has his eyes on strengths but he also had his eyes on weaknesses.”

“I’m proving it to myself. You are facing yourself so I am not really proving anything to anyone. It’s more like I’m here now. It’s me versus me.”

“Once you get here you go through the process of being an athlete and then coming together with the rest of the guys, they don’t want to see nobody fail so they’re gonna push you to your excellent limit.”

“The reason I chose to play for coach Atkins...his players are his kids, he’s more responsible to them because he treats them as one of their own. He’s somebody I can look up to, reach out to when there’s problems, adversity.”

“It’s kind of strange how Coach Atkins recruited me. I was looking forward to getting a scholarship from Florida State for awhile...one day, I texted Coach Atkins, and I didn’t think it was actually him because he was not talking like it was a coach, but he let me know, I’m going to keep it 100 with you, I’ll always be coaching you up...it showed me he was really respectful of me. Every time he calls me, it’s never about football, it’s how my personal life is going, and how my next week is.”

The Seminoles are in the thick of recruiting season and tension is building towards who the future is for Mike Norvell at QB. But currently, that future is in question as it seems less likely that they will retain 2023 QB Chris Parson.

They have also offered two other QBs for the 2023 class with Brock Glenn and Purdue commit Rickie Collins, they need to land at least one of the three and seemingly hope to bring in two.

Beyond that, the Seminoles have made great strides along the offensive line with all the talent that OC/OL Coach Alex Atkins is bringing in. This team had 21 different offensive line combinations in 2021 and has done all that they can to make sure they have improved the line.

Atkins helped bring in five offensive linemen to the 2022 class (more than any other position) along with four potential contributing linemen via the portal with Bless Harris, Dmitri Emmanuel, Kayden Lyles, and Jazston Turnetine.

They have also tried to fix the lack of talent at the receiver position with impact transfers like Mycah Pittman, Johnny Wilson, and Winston Wright. But the question is will this talent be enough in a pivotal 2022 season for Mike Norvell?

Norvell has been a good X’s and O’s coach without the results and given the pressure he is under for 2022, no matter the bad luck they may face it seems this is a tipping point for Mike Norvell's tenure at Florida State...

Hello everyone, happy Wednesday -- this is Noles News Now, the latest in Florida State Seminoles sports, presented by Tomahawk Nation. I’m Perry Kostidakis -- let’s jump in.

Right off the rip, some big news for Florida State football on the recruiting trail -- on Tuesday, the Seminoles officially announced the addition of South Carolina offensive tackle transfer Jazston Turnetine to the roster. At 6-foot-6, 337 pounds with starting experience, he offers a nice bit of depth to an offensive line room that has seen a near complete overhaul this offseason. Florida State has added ten offensive lifeman, fortifying a position group that two years ago was one of the main weaknesses of the entire team, let alone the offense. While Turnetine doesn’t figure to be a starter, having usable depth is a far cry from where Florida State has been in the past.

Speaking of recruiting, here’s your reminder that you are getting older and older by the day -- Jonah Winston, brother of Jameis, is now a quarterback prospect on FSU’s radar. Granted, as a 2026 prospect, that’s still a few years off from being a recruiting battle to follow, but Winston was on campus the past week for a football camp. He spoke with Tomahawk’s Max Escarpio, talking about his relationship with head coach Mike Norvell and how it felt to be back on campus, albeit in a different capacity, after so many years. One impressive take he had was on the progression of his recruitment, saying quote, “at my age, right now, the offers really don’t matter because you never know -- I can stay the same and not improve. I’m going to make sure that doesn’t happen... I will get better as I get older.” adding that being able to commit to FSU when that time comes would be “like going back home!”

In baseball news, Notre Dame was officially eliminated from the College World Series on Tuesday, falling to Texas A&M in a do-or-die game. It marked an end to a miracle run by the Fighting Irish which saw them eliminate the top-seeded Tennessee Volunteers — it could also potentially mark the end of the Link Jarrett era for the school, with FSU baseball doggedly pursuing the former Seminoles ballplayer as its replacement for Mike Martin Jr.

Jarrett spoke on the FSU coaching opening after the loss, emphasizing that, while opportunities might bring themselves to top of mind, his focus throughout the process has been on bringing the best out of his players, something he managed to accomplish during a run that sits as one of the best in Notre Dame program history. 

When could we potentially hear word on a hire? There’s a chance it could be as soon as this week, possibly early next -- the Seminoles have a few baseball camps scheduled. Offseason camps are huge for non-revenue sports -- and while that doesn’t necessarily mean that a head coach needs to be in place, it’s pretty helpful to have one at the helm during what’s one of the more financially lucrative endeavors for the program.

Some other small news and notes: Florida State hurdler Trey Cunningham was named one of 10 semifinalists for The Bowerman award, given annually by the USTFCCCA to the most outstanding male and female NCAA track & field athletes in the nation .Of the 10 semifinalists, Cunningham is the only athlete to go undefeated against collegiate competition in their primary event, going a perfect 20-for-20 in the 60m hurdles and the 110m hurdles during the indoor and outdoor season.

And history set to be made -- former Florida State women’s soccer and current North Carolina Courage defender Carson Pickett is prepping for her first-ever action on the US national team — Pickett is the first player with a limb difference ever called up to the women’s national team.

Ben Meyerson dropped his preview of the Boston College contest and I put together Wake Forest. A quick preview of the Wake Forest one that just dropped today... Deacs look pretty damn good again. All those previews are on the site or dropping today as we wait for football season to finally arrive.

In the meantime, head coach Mike Norvell and the rest of the coaching staff continue holding camps and recruits to get some of the best talents in the country on campus. This weekend that included the brother of former Seminoles QB, national champion and Heisman winner Jameis Winston. His brother Jonah is a quarterback and baseball player in Hoover Alabama. Not much in the way of a recruiting profile though. Still cool to see him following his brother's footsteps. The Noles did get a commitment this weekend for their special teams unit. Long snapper Payton Naylor from Tallahassee announced his commitment to FSU on Twitter this weekend. Kohl's professional football camps rate Naylor as a 5-star long snapper in the 2023 class.

The Noles also got a visit this weekend from 4-star defensive line commit Keith Sampson. He's been committed to FSU since March but has taken a few other visits recently so good to see the staff keeping up with him.

Happy Friday and welcome in to Noles News Now, your audio home for all things Florida State sports here on the Tomahawk Nation podcast network. I’m Brian Pellerin, your host to lead you into the weekend... a rather uneventful weekend in terms of games I might add as we slowly build our way back toward the fall sports season.

The most notable of those is of course football, which is about two months away now, but we are in the middle of preseason all-American season and we had a few Noles

land on the Phil Steele magazine All-American team as well as a few others on the All-ACC teams on Thursday. Your second-team all-American according to them is DB Jammie Robinson. Jammie also grabbed first team all ACC. The others named to their All-ACC teams are Alex Mastromanno on the second team, as well as Dillan Gibbons, Mycah Pittman, Robert Cooper, and Camren McDonald on the third team.

On campus this weekend, the biggest competition will be in recruiting as four-star linebacker Blake Nichelson should be arriving for his official visit today.

They’ll look to keep the moment rolling from the commitment they scooped up earlier this week from a late 2022 defensive lineman.

Elsewhere in the ACC, a tough blow for Boston College as their best offensive lineman will likely miss the entire season following an ACL tear. Star guard Christian

Mahogany is considered one of the top prospects for the next NFL Draft so that’s a tough blow for B-C. He’ll surely be tough to replace this season. Noles host the Eagles on September 24.

The NCAA is still working to catch up to the quickly changing landscape of their sports as they are apparently recommending some guidelines to the transfer portal.

That includes recommending a transfer window process, which basically gives athletes certain times of the year to enter the portal instead of being free agents able to bounce around at any time. They’re also recommending an expedited process to punish teams that commit infractions. Right now, that process drags for years. That is certainly not a sustainable model in this day and age where you can use the portal to retool a roster in one season. Those recommendations will go before the board later this month. The actual vote could come as early as August. That is all according to ESPN’s Heather Dinnich.

Quicker infractions and punishments could be a big problem for Miami and their mega booster John Ruiz. The self-proclaimed billionaire cutting the program’s NIL deals met with the NCAA to discuss those payments. Ruiz told CBS Sports that he took the meeting voluntarily and that it was nothing to be concerned about if you’re a Canes fan, but certainly not a good look to be the first school under the microscope given their history we’ll see where that leads.

Never too early to look into the future at some other upcoming seasons. That includes the FSU hoops team that has their roster ready to rock for their winter season.

The hoops-dedicated podcast crew looked at the group suiting up for the New Bloods this year to get your expectations set for Leonard Hamilton’s boys. And if you’re already missing softball season, Gwyn Rhodes continued her fantastic coverage of that program and dropped the first of her meet the team series looking at the Super Seniors for 2023. A group that’ll be tasked with righting the wrongs of this season’s conclusion and hopefully getting FSU back to OKC.

It's been a while since Matt and Michael sat down to talk hoops. In this episode (Number 48!), they are joined by Tomahawk Nation's Max Escarpio. With Sam Cassell seemingly on the trajectory toward becoming a NBA head coach, could the 'Noles end up with two? It’s been a busy last week for Florida State Seminoles football on the recruiting trail.

Not only did FSU snag a pair of 2023 commitments in high school prospect Quindarrius Jones and JUCO defensive end Jaden Jones, they added some strength to the 2022 class by adding Ayobami Tifase, a 6-foot-4 300 pound defensive lineman who reclassified from 2023.

Additionally, 2022 offensive lineman Antavious “Tae” Woody has arrived on campus and officially been added to FSU’s roster after concerns he wouldn’t academically qualify.

The Tomahawk Nation team is working on a variety of written and podcast previews to get you ready for the upcoming Florida State football season looking position-by-position on the Seminoles' roster and team-by-team on their opponents.

The Seminole Wrap podcast crew is going to use the next few weeks talking to beat writers from the most notable opponents on their 2022 schedule to see where those teams stand heading into fall camp, using the lull in the calendar to get to know the enemy.

The first in that series is a conversation with The Athletic’s Brody Miller, who covers all things on LSU Tigers sports.

Host Brian Pellerin talks about the coaching change, quarterback battle, and the names you need to know before LSU and Florida State take the field in the Caesars Superdome on September 4. Plus, Brody gives a couple of recommendations for stops you may want to add to your itinerary if you plan to make the Labor Day weekend trip to New Orleans.

Florida State heads to New Orleans, Louisiana next season for a primetime matchup in the Caesars Superdome. They’ll face the LSU Tigers with a brand new head coach in Brian Kelly. The Seminoles currently lead the series 7-2, riding a four game win streak against the Tigers. LSU is currently favored in the matchup, garnering the most recent success in the college football atmosphere. Although the Tigers were able to hang up a banner in 2019, both teams have brand new rosters and expectations heading into the 2022 season.

The Noles should be coming off a win against Duquesne in week zero, which should increase their confidence and comfortability. They’ll need to have a dominant game on the defensive side that leads to short fields and easier opportunities for an offense that’s going to take time to develop. Head coach Mike Norvell and his staff are heading into a football town with a hostile environment that’s hungry for a statement win on primetime. But, if FSU pulls off the upset, Seminole fans may have their eyes light up for what could possibly be a turning point in the program.

Hello everyone, happy Wednesday -- this is Noles News Now, the latest in Florida State Seminoles sports, presented by Tomahawk Nation. I’m Perry Kostidakis -- let’s jump in.

After snagging a pair of 2023 commitments over the weekend, the Seminoles added newly-classified 2022 defensive lineman Ayobami Tifas. The  6-foot-4 300 pound prospect chose the Seminoles over Arkansas -- as mentioned, he reclassified to 2022, but is planning on taking an academic redshirt year to prepare himself for the college level academically and athletically. Following his planned redshirt season, Tifase hopes to immediately earn snaps in the rotation. His impressive build will aid him in that quest and he’ll still be able to practice with the team throughout 2022, accumulating valuable reps without any pressure of having to progress quickly.

Even considering the fact that these recent additions aren’t going to be contributing in 2022, the pair have reestablished depth on the line along both sides, creating functional depth. The key there is that now, if a player goes down, chaos doesn’t erupt. While there are plenty of areas to address with the current roster and in the 2023 class, these developments are a step in the right direction.
