  • Let Us Change the Language of the Lord’s Prayer
    a. Dr. Nick Perrin, Professor of New Testament at Wheaton College, comments on Pope Francis’ recent remarks about the last line of the Lord’s prayer (Matt 6.13). Should we say, “lead us not into temptation,” or “do not let us fall into temptation”? Pope Francis thinks the latter, but Dr. Perrin has a very different take.

  • Robed in Jesus
Dr. Amy Peeler, Associate Professor of New Testament, offers some personal reflections on Mark 12.38-44 and asks about the relationship between the long robes worn by the Pharisees and modern clergy who wear stoles. • John Williams, Star Wars, and the March of Kingship
Dr. Adam Miglio, Associate Professor of Archaeology at Wheaton College, discusses the way Hebrew words are repeated in order to provide a “bread crumb trail” to focus our attention on key themes we might miss in translation. It’s not unlike the musical score of “Star Wars.”

  • Daughters and Sons
Dr. Amy Peeler, Associate Professor of New Testament, endorses the impulse toward gender inclusive language in translation. But in some cases she thinks exclusive language may better capture the argument of the text. • Xmas - Is It Taking Christ Out of Christmas?
In this podcast Dr. Capes, dean of the School of Biblical and Theological Studies at Wheaton College, considers the origin of the term “Xmas.”  Some regard it as a secular effort to remove Christ from Christmas, but the story of its origin may tell a different story.

  • In Praise of Joy
Dr. Philip Ryken, president of Wheaton College, discusses some of the benefits of reading the Bible in its original languages. As an example, he takes a passage from Ecclesiastes (8:15) to show how the book moves forward with a strong, praise-filled affirmation of joy.

  • Adam the Earthling
Rabbi Steven Bob discusses the significance of names in the Hebrew Bible. In this podcast he considers the name of the first human, Adam. There’s more here than you might expect.

  • Resembling God A-Z
Dr. Andrew Abernethy, Associate Professor of Old Testament and Coordinator for the M.A. in Biblical Exegesis, explores how Psalm 111 and 112 are acrostic poems that play off of one another to illumine how the godly will resemble God.

  • Why Luther Changed his Mind
Dr. Andrew Abernethy is Associate Professor of Old Testament and Coordinator for the M.A. in Biblical Exegesis. Luther changed his mind about more than justification. Using Psalm 46 as an example, Dr. Abernethy talks about how Luther came to value literal readings of biblical texts.
