In this episode, we listen to Charlie Self take Jim on a guided tour through church history, highlighting significant people and events that have implications for faith and work today.

Charlie Self serves as director of city expansion at Made to Flourish, bringing leadership to our efforts to expand our regional networks into new cities.

Charlie is an ordained minister with the Assemblies of God. He has served as an associate and senior pastor in several congregations in California, Oregon and Washington, D.C., and has served as an interim pastor six times. He currently also serves as professor of church history at The Assemblies of God Theological Seminary in Springfield, Missouri, where he teaches courses in apologetics, church history, mission history, leadership development, and discipleship. He is also co-developer of discipleship dynamics, a new research-based tool for churches and individuals to assess the effectiveness of their discipleship programs.

Charlie is the author of three books: The Divine Dance, The Power of Faithful Focus (with co-author Les Hewitt) and his most recent work with The Acton Institute, Flourishing Churches and Communities: A Pentecostal Primer on Faith, Work and Economics for Spirit-Empowered Discipleship.

Jamin Goggin is a pastor at Mission Hills Church. Jamin helped start Metamorpha Ministries. He lives in Southern California with his wife Kristin and four children.

Jamin believes that part of his pastoral vocation includes writing and speaking. He has written The Way of the Dragon or The Way of the Lamb: Searching for Jesus’ Path of Power in a Church That Has Abandoned It (co-authored with Kyle Strobel) and Beloved Dust: Drawing Close to God by Discovering the Truth About Yourself (co-authored with Kyle Strobel) and he has edited Reading the Christian Spiritual Classics: A Guide for Evangelicals (co-edited with Kyle Strobel). He frequently speaks at churches, retreats and conferences. Jamin writes and speaks from the depths of his own journey, seeking to invite others into the beauty and goodness of life with God.

Oye Waddell is the Executive Director of Hustle PHX. Waddell grew up in inner city Los Angeles and has a long track record in urban education and entrepreneurship. He attended the University of Washington on a full athletic scholarship to play football. He later earned a Master of Public Administration from the University of Southern California, and a Master of Education from Arizona State University. He is the founder of Gameplan International and serves as a pastor at New City Church in downtown Phoenix.
