    JENN:

I know you have this moment in time when your husband got laid off and everything needs to hit the fan. Can you share that with us a little bit, definitely?

    KAREN:

My husband was laid off and luckily he was able to find a job really quickly but it was in another state, and it was kind of a contractor position, so we didn't want to move.

I ended up being at home with my two little kids, and I had just started my own business, and at first things were fine. I had a couple of clients and I was able to manage it all, but as my business grew, and I got more successful. I couldn't do it anymore.

There was a moment I remember so I had the flu, I was laying on my couch, trying to type email to a client as my two kids have their lightsabers were chasing each other screaming around the couch. Thinking to myself, this cannot be life. My life is supposed to be like this. It is not what I dreamed when I thought of starting my own business, and having the freedom and flexibility was like This cannot be right. This is not the way it's supposed to be.

I realized that I was so out of alignment. I was trying to do everything for my kids and then I had all these new clients that I was trying to serve to make sure that they wanted to stay with me and hire me more, but I totally left myself out of the picture. It really started me on the kind of self-discovery of figuring out how am I going make this work by myself with my two kids and then this business.

I took a lot of productivity classes I took courses, but I realized that nobody really understood my life as a mom entrepreneur. I took a lot of courses from really well-known productivity experts but they were men and they didn't have the responsibility of taking care of their kids and so I remember one time my son got hit in the head and gym class, and I had to take him to Urgent Care.

And we had this whole thing we were supposed to do for this class I was in and I came back and I said, "I'm sorry, but this happened. So now what do I do?

He's like, "I don't know and I'm like, "Well what do you mean like we...

How do I do next, how do I get back on is like I've never had anything like that happen. He's said, "I just go to work every day, and that's what I do and I realized that people don't understand this unpredictable life as kind of a mom entrepreneur, and that's really how I got started figuring out how I'm going make this work to make sure that I had time for me, 'cause I was a lunch in right, if something happened to me, I realized everything fell apart.

That's a scary place to be in, too. It was very scary. But I think a lot of women get to that point at first, I think. Oh, I got this right. Everything's working fine. But then as you start to get more clients or maybe for more services or whatever that looks like, for you, you realize, "Wow this is not working or I can't do this. And what was First is time for yourself, right? So I think that's the place that so many women get lost, they're still serving their clients, they're still trying to be the best mom, but then they don't have the time for themselves.

When I was sick and I realized that was a starting point, but I just kept realizing there I didn't find solutions for my problem and my specific problem. But there has to be a way, I just kept realizing there's a different path.

There must be a solution, that I can really have this business and my kids, but then have a little time, you just a little time for myself. And so hearing those responses, I realized that, Okay, I think I'm going have to figure out the solution by myself. So, this was over 10 years ago and there weren't kind of some of the social media wasn't as big, it wasn't the self-love movement.

I don't think as much. So I really didn't have those same resources and so it r

So I really didn't have those same resources and so it really took me just figuring out how to make this work for myself and it really came down to setting priorities, including myself, as one of them and I think a lot of people have a business priority and maybe a family priority, but they didn't have one for themselves and so that's what really changed that for me. And then creating a schedule first with non-business activities including my thing first, and then only after that I could see how much time I had to work and that's how I make it work for me.

I was by myself right and so because I was kind of still being burned out, I kept getting sick and I just realized if I'm sick, then my kids can't do anything right. I can barely get them to school.

They had pre-school for after whatever that was, I couldn't do it and I realized. Okay, first, even if it was like 30 minutes a day, I had to find some kind of time that I could either journal or just take a nap or meditate, or whatever, that was at different times. They did different things depending on how I was but I realized if I didn't do that, first, my kids were going to suffer and that's not why I started my own business, and so I really also created, really.

I needed to create boundaries for my clients, and so I had only ten, to as my working hours and I didn't respond after that and so I got really strict with my time and how I used it to ensure that I really was doing the focus, which was my family and myself.

I had one child in preschool and one in kindergarten, and so as soon as they left, I took the first 30 minutes for myself so I didn't work on my clients. Most people firing as I going sit right down and do my business and I said, No, I have to take the first 30 minutes for myself. Like I said, it didn't matter what I did I could sleep, I could just rest, I could go for walk, whatever that was, but I always took the first 30 minutes after my kids went to school for myself.

And I think that's the thing that we don't do this woman, right? We don't do that first thing for ourselves, right?

We do everything else, first. We'll cook for lunch, or well, make dinner, prepping dinner, we'll do the one we'll do all these other things first. But I realized that if I didn't take I think because I was by myself, I think that was. If I had somebody else there, I might not have gotten to that point, but realizing by myself, I kept getting sick and I kept feeling just not good and not doing good work to my clients and not being a great mom for my kids that I needed to take at least that like 30 minutes for myself first or everything fall apart.

    JENN:

What activities during that 30 minutes, we're actually helpful to you.

If I was sick I just took a nap. I like that, that's pretty obvious. After that it really depended kind of dependent where I was so if I was feeling like things were going well, I may they'd go for a walk because going outside, really helped. I feel like kind of get me grounded and I got fresher in a little movement right like that, that was good, but sometimes really journaling like if there was some issues going on, whether was my business or whatever, just writing things out for me really helps.

Everyone has a different thing. So some people are really good at meditating. I trimmed Ting, at times, and at times it helped but not all the time. I feel like for me, journaling, works. And I think that's a little bit of the self-exploration but you need to figure out what works good for you, what makes you feel good? Like I said, for a lot of moms, it's a app. So take that nap for the 30 minutes. You'll be surprised how you can fall asleep when you know like, Okay this is my lack of time, I'm gonna bolstering away.

    You can do it.

And I think that's a really important thing for if somebody missed that is that... Don't just follow all the gurus out there that are saying, try this, and try this, and that's going work. You have to figure out what works for yourself. Seems that work for you and I think that's really awesome. That you took the time to figure out those 30 minutes.

What is best going serve me today?

I followed some of those groups to said, "Get up a 40 M or get up at 5 AM and I need sleep. I'm just a person who needs a lot of sleep and with my kids, and by myself, they'd wake up at night and so asking me then to even get less sleep.

I was not productive, even then, so when I would get up at 5 AM, so it made no sense. So definitely, yes. There are people who things have worked for, but really make sure you look is their life comparable to mine? A lot of these were men who didn't take care of their kids and so, no, it wasn't comparable is my life. So that's why I really find that working with my clients, I think I have a better understanding somewhat of their life, but I still think it's customized to you.

Some people are great at writing some people hate writing. I'm like, "Well then talk it into the phone if maybe that's better for you, find a solution that makes you at least feel less stress, like anxious whatever that is walking, running, you go whatever that is, for you find what works for you and then do that.

The first step is really the time management part and I always start with their priorities first. And you block those off your calendars, first because we all know the other way to just fall the wayside, and I definitely encourage them to figure out what works for them but that's why... That's the cornerstone of my program is that I don't make you get up at five, I don't make you do anything except choose a priority for yourself, whether it's a gold class, and if you wanna take an art class me, whatever that is, for you is something you know you wanna do is something you just want arrest a quiet time by herself, whatever that is, figure that out, and we're gonna carve out that time first, and then we'll know how much time you have for your business and then you have all your family activities. So I start with us first.

I’ll do that later. And it always gets pushed off it. So whoever you are, you don't have to be a mom. But I just work because I was a mom that was kind of my turning point. I help a lot of other months. But again, I think it's just females in general need to figure out how. I don't have hours it doesn't have to be hours, it seems ridiculous, but for a while I was just doing 10 minutes and so in the morning.

Because if my kids hear may get up, they think, "Oh mom's up and so they come and mom, where's this, where's this whatever? My journal next to my bed, and I take it, I hardly move and start writing my 10-minutes in my journal before even get out of bed so they don't hear me, so I actually have those types.

Some people, maybe it's meditate like I said, whatever that is, maybe doing some movements like yoga or whatever, just figure out what that means for you, and people say, "Oh I don't have two hours, I'm like, 2 or 2. or start with 10 minutes, if you can find 10 minutes. I think everyone can find 10 minutes in a day that they can do something, buy themselves, I that will really help refresh rejuvenate you so that you can be a great dog mom. You can be the best business owner that you can be, right? Because I think without that, we kind of am Dar tank, and then we're not able to do anything well, and that's not how we want to live our lives, right?

You don't take care of yourself. What you take care of yourself is what's going be given back to exactly. So if you're not taking that time for you that shows up in other areas of your life. So yeah, I see it in... So when you're working with clients and doing the carving out that 10 minutes, 30 minutes, hopefully, work up to an hour. If we have that lecture.

A lot of times it's women who are struggling. And so, usually the first thing we start with this time management, but I'm all about finding ways to use your time more efficiently. So a lot of times for their businesses, that means finding new systems and ways to do things that take up less of your time, right?

And so that can save hours of time a week. And so, it's really about maximizing the time that you have, so you're focusing maybe on your client work on the work that only you can do and having some of this more back-end administrative stuff work more behind the scenes without you having to be involved. Again, it's all about taking the time that you have and using it for the best for you and for your clients and then for your family and for yourself. So that's where we really start. We're always looking at that time, aspect because usually the women I work with, have very little time and at first they start with the 10 minutes, like we talked about, but you'd be surprised. So we'll do that for two months, and then they'll start to say, "Oh wait, I think I can find some more time then it's 30 minutes. So they're able to move it up each time we do that, and I think that's because once you start to realize, "Oh I can find 10 minutes. Oh, let's see if I can do 20. you start to realize, "Oh I can find this. And when you start to feel better, I think you realized I need more of that, right? So if you started medicine, you're like, Wow, 10 minutes. That's not quite enough. I want some more and then you realize I'm actually a better mom, I'm actually a better person a friend you to my family members.

I think you want more of that. And so it's really great to see how that can expand just from those first 10 minutes that we start with.

A full embodiment of how to be a mom, and an entrepreneur at the same time is what you're helping people is yeah, because I felt like there wasn't that at least when I was looking there wasn't that kind of... How do you make that work this kind of unpredictable schedule because your kids can get sick or the schools out or things like that. And so we had to figure out a way to make that work. And I didn't really find that from the people, even the women, but they had nannies. I didn't have an any, I was all by myself, so it was really figuring out how to make that work for me, and then when I met other moms, I say, "How are you doing this online business that's flexible? And it's part-time and I... 'cause I picked out my kids every day, right? How are you here day when you have this business?

And so then I started to help other women because women have so much education they've had so much experience, a lot of them have corporate jobs, but they wanna do something a little different. They don't wanna have to go a 900 to 500.And so I started helping women, I was like, "Hey I can do this as a business, too. And so, I really am passionate about helping.

And sometimes it's just be monitors, it's not necessarily moms, but helping these women figure out how to do this online business so they can have the flexible life that they want and for sure a carve out that time for themselves, some of that. So, I do you do group programs is it all one-on-one, so you... So I do a variety of things, so a lot of people come to me for one-on-one. A lot of times, if people are really at a struggling point it's hard to kinda do a group they kind of need that one-on-one experience, but I have done group programs as well, which is so much fun, because it's great to have a community of women who support each other, who understand what our lives are like because it is a little different than the typical... So I think that's a great place for women to be able to come together, figure out the back end, the tech things for their business to make it work, but also have the other women who understand their lives and are there to cheer them on.

Yeah, and not about losing yourself in there, right?

I think as a mom, a lot of people feel like they lose themselves and I just feel like carving out that time really helps you kind of get back in touch with yourself, to figure out what you really want, where you're moving towards. And like I said, so many people don't do it because I think, "Oh I don't have time, but I'm like 10 minutes. You've gotta have 10 minutes a day, you know, I don't... In your bathroom, or dominate, I don't know, whatever it is, or you wherever you can go, that you can find the 10 minutes. It's a great place to start. And then I think it kind of becomes addictive. You want more and more and so you'll find more ways to find more time for yourself, and then I just feel like you feel so happy and then it projects to everything else. Your business and your family.

    GOLDEN NUGGETS

No matter what, I'm going do this every day, these five or 10 minutes, and you figure out what you want do, whether it's journal, maybe it's just resting in a quiet room, I don't care what it is, but just carving out those 10 minutes, every single day and stick with that, and then you'll start to see, I think, how you start to change and then you start to get a dick and you want more and more and you'll find ways to make the time to carve out that time, but make yourself a priority and start with that 10 minutes a day. I know everyone can find that 10 minutes a day, do something for yourself, it will choose your life.

What was that 10 minutes a man... Everyone yet to minutes, right? Well, thank you so much for your time, I really appreciate it. I will put all your information, 'cause you send me a bunch of links to all of your stuff. I'll put that in the show notes and up on the blog that goes along with podcast and I appreciate your time and I'm really excited. I kind of, I can't wait to be in your space just because I was like, "I know I'm not a mom, but I need all these things, right?

  • 013 Overcoming Emotional Eating. Everything you have or don't have is a 100% reflection of your habits with Lynn Louise

Jenn: Can you tell us about your story of this time that you went from marathoner to getting an injury that made it so you couldn't do any sort of exercising?

Lynn:  I went from a marathoner to injured to take about three years off of running to becoming a marathoner. Then back to Marathon. It was really when I started struggling with my weight and the idea of dieting because I was always healthy. I always had this wonderfully healthy lifestyle that I loved, and I didn't have a problem eating, anything because I was always running off calories doing what I do, which is running. And then everything changed.

The first thing that happened was I had both of my Achilles tear. When this happens they leave you immobile, you're not supposed to walk, you're not supposed to run, you're not supposed to do anything with moving them. There's not a lot of movement that you can do.

There are stretching and stuff that I could do, but it sends you into a kind of a spiral mindset.  If you are in the state of mind that I was in, I wasn't even aware of what I was thinking at the time, so I had the fears. It's set into motion. These negative thought patterns, this self-shaming.

I can't run, I can't do anything, I'm gaining weight. And that's when I really started noticing a habit that I had already had but was able to ignore before which was emotional eating.

And then of course over the course of three years, many things happen.

My father was diagnosed with cancer, I started helping them downsize their house and sell their house, move their house. In the meantime, my husband and I also sold our house. All this stuff just happened right?

I was sitting at my heaviest way, incredibly unhappy looking at my life thinking. How am I going to get a handle on it? I've tried these diets, they're not working. There has to be an easier way.

And that was a turning point. I was just so unhappy my whole life was consumed around a diet mindset, a diet mentality, hiding and shaming myself for emotionally binge eating and drinking, and I was like Something's got to change here.

And that was when I decided to make the big change to starting the inside journey, which once I opened that door.  I was never able to close it again because it's like the light goes off and change begins to happen.

I was in a really bad spot I was beating myself up, I didn't realize how much my inner critic was just talking shit to me all the time, I was, I was self-medicating with wine in the evenings and paying for it. Regretfully, the next day because it just is a depressant, right?

And then I would eat the wrong things, and all this and then I would restrict myself and on Monday I'm starting to diet. I'm going start a diet again and that was my pattern, and then I fall off the wagon. Because we all know, diets don't work, they don't work, there's no reason that anyone should be on the diet.

When I really hit that bottom, which is different for everybody, I knew that I couldn't do it alone, and I'm going to be completely honest.

Nobody that wants to move out of that mindset can do it alone. They have to find a mentor, whether it's you, whether it's me, whether it's somebody else out there that's not even involved in dieting, it doesn't matter, you can't do it alone.

And so I found my first mentor, and I signed on with her for a year and so within the first two months, but I outgrew her. I was already looking for other mentors and she was great while I had her, and I continued my whole year with her,  I just was adding other mentors on top of it. Because the momentum that was behind it just brought so much joy to me.

And you just have to find the right fit for you.

    I have plenty of mentors.

I feel like a lot of that fear comes from feeling unw

I feel like a lot of that fear comes from feeling unworthy, because of what stigma whatever you want to call it, has put in our mind. If you're struggling and you're on diets normally it's either to gain weight or lose weight. You feel like your body is not enough, you can't show up.

I know for me that it was really hard like I can invest all this money in these diets anymore.  But when it came to actually heal those internal struggles, I was like, "How is it that I will spend 200 on two days were food of this fake magic food. But I won't spend 200 work on inside stuff, right? And I truly believe this, is look at what culture has done to us. They have programmed or self-trust out of us, so they have created these women that don't believe that we can trust ourselves so why should we trust that inner-voice telling us our intuition telling us. This is the right move working from the inside is the right move, do it, and it's still so strong inside of us, but then it's like 10000 or 5000 on a program.

I shouldn't trust that this is the right thing because that 66 billion diet industry is telling me that's the right mindset, but what they're really worried about is that bottom line they want the money, they don't care about your health, they care about their income.

When we have not trusted our intuition inside, we struggle on the outside.

It was an in trusting yourself. And we have been trusted ourselves with what is being told. That's very important for people to understand.

Yeah, we just... It's one of those things that was taken away from us by well-meaning caretakers at a very early age because by the time you're eight years old, your core beliefs and identity around them have already been formed.

    That's a pretty heavy right?

So before that, you're being told You're not old enough to do that, you're not strong enough to do that, don't do that.

And so we've already begun to lose our self-trust at that point.

But then it just keeps piling on, because our belief system around that is also in motion, so we're kind of proving it to ourselves. That we can't trust up.

Women are just naturally higher intuitive women like few and beings yeah, and so for us to go through that and client and find those things is natural and then, of course, something happens, someone tells us something that makes us doubt ourselves.

Just because your cosmic doesn't mean that you can't be assertive.

One thing that I always tell the women that I work with is right where you are right now, this is where you're supposed to be.

Yeah, so it didn't have to start in your team is starting right now.

I locked in mine away in my 20s, after having in my life forever, I was raised very cosmically and then I shut it down. And then I found it in my... Like the four days, again, but it happened when it needed to. And once you tap back into that to you can... It's like all that miss time doesn't matter because you, it just like catches up to you and you can just roll with it faster. Than You Ever Thought Possible.

So I believe that you come back to your truth. You want to call it is a spiritual practice, or whatever. We source collective consciousness. When you come back to it, it's right when you need to, so that you have the capability of moving into this intuitive age, at a higher pace, so that people like you and me can help women that are listening, to these podcasts move into this new age with more ease flow understanding.

JENN: So how did you start opening back up to that, what were your truth. Dipping your toe in the water?

Lynn: So when I came back to it, my very first mentor she was into Abraham hit, I was like... So is that... So if anyone wonder Abraham is it's Ester, HIC which taps into the collective consciousness. And she was like, Even if you don't, the message does it, the medium doesn't resonate with you, the message is on point.

And so I looked over some Abraham, he YouTube stuff 101, and I was like, "This is right on, I'm getting it, but very quickly. I moved from Abraham Hicks 'cause I believe Abraham "hexes a wonderful place to really start.

And so it's like this really nice momentum. So, I dip my toe back in with her. But within three months, I was like, "I need more, I need to go deeper. And so that's when I really started getting involved on a much more cosmic level reading much deeper literature, on it, hiring mentors that were into more of the ancient forms of healing and on wisdom, and such.

And so now, I believe this is such a big part of the process. When people ask me in interviews, they'll say, "Who are you?

That question always gets on me I'm like, "Are you trying to ask me what I do for a living because that is so different, like, I make cosmic being, I came from somewhere, I'm in this physical body in this one lifetime, and I'm gonna return to there wherever there is this is not my only life, but it is my only time in the physical bodies.

So a big part of my program, I really like to get women in touch with that because there's so much that comes along with the understanding that this is my one body in this one life we're meant to be enjoying food and join beautiful art, beautiful clothes traveling reading, extravagant like A... And relationships.

We're supposed to have a beautiful relationship, and so I go through relationships, toxic relationships beautiful relationships raising your vibe understanding your true vision getting to know that what this body came here for because we all came here with a cosmic purpose. And a lot of the times we don't know what it is.

And through my program, yes, it's about getting away from the diet but it's also embracing a more... So who you are as a person, who you want to be and being that person now.

Yeah, so while anti-dieting is a big part of my message. It's really embracing who you are on a deeper level.

You can't destroy that road is already established, you have to create a new road, and you have to really focus on it with intention. And build that road up. So it's just as established as the former Road, right?

That road is never going to go away, but you can divert your attention and your focus and build that new road. So it's established and use it the whole time, right?

But a lot of people, this is one reason why I work. They go, Okay. I'm going to establish this road in diet, where their previous behaviors are still that highly established Road.

So they're trying to change it from a part of the brain where that's not how you, your bringing work. So it's always in this continual argument. Habits are there to help us, but sometimes are getting in the way.

I won't go into brain science.

It will go down go as a way to tap but it's like we have this continual we're trying to change it all the time. Through logical brain. I should be able to do this, I should be able to do this, but it's a habit. He tried to change a habit with your logical brain.

Your reptilian brain is always going  win.

But I'll give you a little piece of advice here. The best way to get out of that logical brain and make the decision when you go... Let's say you're like... I need to get up and go to the gym tomorrow I'm going  to the gym it's going be awesome, and when you're laying in bed and it's really cold outside and you're like, "Oh I don't want to get the brand that's your YOU.”

Everything will come together, held out.

Oh yeah, so I, I... I've been working from street level where I need to be at the top of the Empire State Building.

Yeah, so I will just open that all up, and give you... Everyone, such great momentum to really begin to let go of these identities that have been created around diet culture because they're so ingrained in us.

Oh, that I believe that I am working on a podcast episode right now I'm calling it DNA that we come into this world already. Predisposed from our mothers, the into the diet culture because we know they can fetuses can hear and they can feel the mother's emotions and the mother releases cortisol, and all this stuff right during uncomfortable times, during fear when she's being ridiculed for the weight that she's gaining during pregnancy.

Yeah, and then after giving birth, like the first things I gotta lose this baby weight? The baby feels all this. We fill out this... We here at we watch it, it's like, we come into this world already. Okay, this is gonna be our identity.

Yeah, once and for all the power that they hold that they too, everyone is a cosmic being, and when you tap into that line, everything becomes possible.

    It starts with the connection.

JENN: I am going to ask you my favorite question towards the end, which is somebody only walked away with one nugget, from this time to be... Well, for more time together. What would you want them to take away?

LYNN: I would want them to take away that this one like that they had here is so valuable and important that seeking happiness, should be your primary objective and not a toy, time in struggle or worry. So finding the right coach for you in the right program, get some support.

    Yeah, I get support.

There are lots of free. My group is open and find group, find women that are like-minded and resonate and latch on time, don't waste time around negative especially right now in the monks may Ray time that we're going through taking advantage of this time as a pause to really get in touch with what you desire.

That's one of the first lessons we go through in my 10-week courses vision and I can ask a woman what she doesn't want, and she could talk to me for an hour and a half, but you ask a woman what she wants and it's like, "Oh I don't know.

Or because they can't do overwhelmed with struggle and have created this momentum behind struggle, but they don't know how to get out of it, and that's what people like you and me, or here for.

Yeah, let me take you down, I'll show you how to get out of this whirlwind less momentum and change that mindset so that you can always be having happy thoughts. Yeah, let's address it, let's address those shadows and now paste.

So again, your only job here on the earth is to get aligned.

Yeah, you too and in... But find the right person. I love that, yes, and it's so true. Just don't do it. It's mental health, or any kind of health it's... You don't wanna do it alone.

Oh, and we were put on this Earth to do shit alone.

Yeah, we came here to have relationships.

And whether it's for 30 seconds or 30 years, everyone comes into your life for a reason, for those important time.

I've had connections where I'm like, "Oh I'm going know this person for a really long time.

And it lasted for three hours, and I'm like, "Oh okay, well, that was good, but it's a over.

Yeah, what I need to change my momentum and I'm like, "I don't. I wasn't sad about it, that wasn't happy about it, I was just like, Okay, he went with the flow.

Everything they don't have is a result of your habits.

I'm going to leave you with, and say it again, everything you have and everything you don't have is a 100% reflection of your habits.

  • 011 A journey of gratitude, that started with the life changing diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis with Colleen Edwards

Colleen is a woman who was blessed with a life-changing diagnosis at a young age. For the last twenty-seven years, she has been on a journey of self-discovery, working to always heal and improve my health, giving back to the world as much as I can, and maintaining high hopes each moment of the day. I truly know how to be grateful for what I have and consider this to be my greatest life blessing!

She has discovered that giving yourself what you require, in order to be as healthy as you can! But it needs to start with respecting your body, as your vehicle for life.

She believes that part of self-love involves recognizing what your body is capable of and being thankful for all of what your body provides for you each day.

When she was young, she had many strange health ‘issues’ (constant ear infections, always cold hands and feet, so much trouble falling asleep). When she was 13, she was riding my bike home from a sleepover with a friend and noticed her vision was messed up. She saw everything in double.

After going to and from various specialists, she was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. It took about a year before she realized, yes,  she could be in a wheelchair, but in reality, tomorrow is promised to no one. All we have for certain is this very moment.

Self-love is important to her healing, both mental and physical healing. She knows that she cannot get to where she wishes to be, (health-wise) if she is not willing to show herself the love, she can not give that love to my family, friends and all other humans.

  • 010 Don't let the fear of the scale stop you from seeing your doctor with Jennifer Dragonette

I thought that it was important that I share with you some of the drawbacks and effects of weight-focused traditional health care.

What do I mean right this...

We have all been to the doctors and we dread going to the doctors. Because let's face it, most of the time we only go when we're sick, right?

    At least I do.

I'm not a big fan of those germ-filled offices full of snotty noses. And who knows what else? But to make matters worse, as soon as they call your name and drag you back through those doors to the waiting room, you get to stand in the hallway on this wonderful scale as the nurse writes down your number. Then takes your blood pressure maybe you're on to states and your temperature for me walking in, and walking through those doors.

I felt like a shame spiral soon as I stepped on that scale and saw that number and you could hear the nurse that she was writing it down. Just take a deep breath.

And I know it's not just me.

This was a huge issue for me, and as soon as I walked into the office and sat down and had a conversation with the doctor, you would hear, I would hear things like, "you really need to get your weight under control. You need to go on a diet, you need to change your body, you need to change this.".

I am heaviest  I've ever been, but now I am off almost all of my medications and doing well. I am actually happy, happy in my body, happy in my life happy in all of these different areas of my life.

So I have had a chronic illness, since I was... Well, I was diagnosed at 13, so I've been going to a lot of doctors and a lot of psychologists and therapists and I'm not saying it, by any means. Any of them had any ill effects or bad things? They all did good things for me, but there were as an underlying thing that they didn't do... Nobody ever asked me about what I was eating or how I actually felt about the way my body looked.

Yes, they asked me how I felt and that was depressed, and unhappy, and they always related it to events, not to the image that I held in my mind about myself, so recently, as I go to the doctors and get on the scales and hear a sigh.

I am more active, more energy happier. I'm living a more fulfilled life. Why do I need to change anything? And the suggestion they gave me was this medically supervised shake fasting, it was five shakes a day, and you had to commit to four months in the program, at least like four months of liquid shakes. Only with ingredients that I can't even pronounce now. A freaking  NO thank you.

So I asked, I bluntly, I am and ask What are the benefits of actually losing the weight, what are the benefits?

What am I gonna get out of putting my body through this torture?

And these severe deprivations of food going to do for me besides destroying my gut bio do besides just create all this internal stress on my body. Weight cycling is not healthy losing weight, that fast is not healthy.

There are so many things out there, and I know that there's so much misinformation and a lot of our medical doctors don't get nutritional classes or they have one class. I think that's required. And with all this miscommunication this misinformation and this weight focus, it's absolutely insane.

I heard today somebody mentioned to me that a lot of athletes are even considered obese. Or what about the person that is underweight, that's trying to gain weight? Nobody's actually asking how we're doing things, how we're feeling in our bodies, how we're interacting in the world. There's not that connection.

I had an eating disorder for 20 years, and no one ever diagnosed me how, with all the doctors I went to, all the psychologists, all the therapists out of all the treatment. I was getting, How did nobody ever recognize my eating disorder? Why did it take 20 years to actually get this diagnosis which was liberating to me 'cause now I can actually do some

I was getting, How did nobody ever recognize my eating disorder? Why did it take 20 years to actually get this diagnosis which was liberating to me 'cause now I can actually do something about it. Instead of just hope to be hopeful that something's gonna change.

So, my focus goes back to that damn scale. You don't have to get on it, if you are not going to the doctor because you feel shame about getting on that scale, you can tell them, No, you don't have to be weight, it's your right to stand up for yourself and say, No, I'm not coming here for my weight.

There are some things that they need your weight for if you're having surgery for anesthesia. For medication purposes yeah, they need to know your weight. Other than that, they can take that scale.

The health at every size movement is proving that and it's so refreshing to see all this body positivity and the wonderful things in the world that are coming out to make us feel better in our bodies, but it all starts with loving yourself. When I gave up dieting when I gave up my focus on what my body looked like, and I actually started living my life in this present moment being grateful that my body allowed me to stand up. Yeah, on some days, standing up, her like how... But I was still able to stand up, I was still able to walk and do the things I was still able to open my eyes and see. These are all the things you take for granted until the day you can't do them anymore. And there were days that I couldn't walk that I would crawl places until I had surgery to fix my back, it made me, more grateful.

So, if anything, my chronic illness, has made me more grateful for a lot of things, but going to the doctors as much as I did just increased my focus on weight, and my dissatisfaction with my body and myself.  It made me feel not good enough, it made me feel shame, it made me not wanna go unless I really had to go.

And I want you to be aware that it's okay to say no, it's okay to not get on the scale, you can refuse to do that and still get service there is not a need for your weight. The majority of the time. So say no if you're not going to the doctor because of the shame about getting on that scale, don't get on the doctor at all.

I know I have a friend that put it off going to see her doctor for a really long time, because of that scale fear, and she really needed to be treated way before she got treated. So just make sure you know that and feed your body with love because there's nothing else that's the root of everything.

If you're not feeling like enough.

If you're not feeling the energy you want.

If you're not feeling your life is going where you want it to go, you need to focus inwardly because nothing outwardly is going to fill that gap.

Focus on yourself, get the help that you need for your health, whether that's traditional healthcare or an alternative healthcare hiring a coach having a friend that can support you through the process, but go inward and find out why these things are coming up, figure it out, dig deep, and if you are in real need, again, I'm always here, you can always reach out to me, but I do have my free community, the future body with love community hanging out on Facebook, where we're doing this together, we're rising together we are coming up together and breaking free from this traditional health care and this weight phobia, and this fatphobia and this body is shaming and body hatred.

We're really rising together in there. It's where you can share your struggles, your successes.

And we just, again, we rise together. It is such a safe community and I'm just loving being in there.

    https://www.facebook.com/groups/feedyourbodywithlove/

And again, it's free so if you're struggling and you wanna test the waters to see if the feed your body with love movement, is for you or if intuitive eating is for you. Because yes, we still do talk about food, because nutrition and movement is an important piece of being healthy.

However, if it is not fun, it does not belong in your life, if you're not having fun, if you're not enjoying the exercise, don't do it, find something that works for you, if you're not enjoying your food, it becoming a chore, or super restrictive and you're not having fun, change it and change it in a way that feels good be intuitive.

You know what's best for your body, but if you need help rising together again, get your body over to the feature body with love community because we will accept you with open loving arms because you deserve to be happy, you deserve to love the body you love and you deserve to feed your body with love. So I will talk to you next time. Have the most amazing day. Wait, don't have the most amazing day go up and make today amazing because you are beautiful, and you freaking deserve it.

    I love you.
