She explains how ERP (exposure response prevention) saved her from her own torment. She's currently in the midst of completing her masters degree and training hours so that she can specialize in helping people with OCD and anxiety disorders.

sexual orientation,

BONUS episode! I talk about my tumultuous + toxic love affair with cocaine and what eventually led to a suicide attempt last September. Though suicide is often seen as purely negative, I found this experience to be life-changing and I think it needed to happen to me.
This is not a 'typical' episode because, as you see in the title, I interviewed myself. I thought it would be a funny way to talk about something fairly "heavy". I don't know if it ended up being funny at all... But I think the episode is still very interesting--though I'm very nervous to share it. People open up to me (and thousands of strangers who listen to Feelin Weird) every week about things that scare them, and 75% of guests (not a mathematician...) feel VERY nervous about doing it and are often hesitant to even share their stories, so I think it's important for me to share my WEIRD things as well (so I know what it's like). In my opinion, it's VERY important to talk about suicide (ideations, attempts, and just suicide in general) and I'm happy to share my experience.
TRIGGER WARNING: I talk about suicide, drugs and cutting myself--also, there is mention of blood. Please be cautious if any of those things trigger you! I honestly don't find these things hard to listen to--I LOVE HEARING THESE STORIES--but I know everyone is different.
Thanks so much for listening, friend!

PART TWO of my talk with an anonymous guest: from bible college to rehab. It's the classic "it started out as a really fun time, and soon after became a horrific dependency" story. Wait, is that a classic? I dunno... ANYWAY, on a solo backpacking trip in Europe, she broke her wrist in a drunken accident. Naturally, it didn't heal properly so a number of surgeries later, she was left in a cast with nothing to do for an entire year (which was ample time to develop a dependency on cocaine and alcohol).
We talk all things:
disordered eating,
cocaine and alcohol addiction,
rehab + recovery,
being HYPER SENSITIVE (HSP),
TW sexual assault (briefly mentioned),
TW self-harm (cutting),
inter-generational trauma (how trauma passes down the line),
therapy pets,
VULNERABILITY + people taking advantage of us,
the horror of shows and school (being HSP),
and a whole shit ton more :)

We talk: being a highly sensitive person (HSP) & an empath; being a "good" kid; bible college; perfectionism; organized religion; & feeling inadequate
PART ONE! My guest was class valedictorian, got good grades, went to bible college, and didn't drink or have sex until she was 20, so how did she end up in rehab a few years later? She appeared to be "excelling" in life (destined for great things), but she was SEVERELY depressed--her coping mechanism was disordered eating, and later alcohol and drugs.
This is PART ONE of her story.
We talk about:
being a highly sensitive person and an empath;
organized religion;
perfectionism;
stage fright;
feeling inadequate;
being a female in a male-dominated music scene;
overwhelming pressure to "succeed";
comedy specials;
and SO much more.

CW: sexual assault, violence, murder, and suicide.
Shayne D has spent 22 of his 47 years in prison. In the last few years, he has been diagnosed with BPD and ADHD which has allowed him to access support for his illnesses. BASICALLY, Shayne is a glowing example of how untreated trauma and mental illness can manifest in EXTREME pain and suffering. Oh, also, he's currently serving a life sentence for murder... But, don't let that trip you up, because Shayne is one of the most sensitive, well spoken people I've ever talked to. JUST LOOK at the episode photo--that's the smile of a kind soul.
In the last few years, he's discovered theatre and poetry and piano and has found them to be TREMENDOUS outlets for his internal pain and his feelings.
This is a MUST listen. I know I say every episode is my favourite, but this one hits me right in the feelings.
We also talk about:
being abandoned by parents who struggled with addiction;
sexual abuses he faced and hid from himself and the world due to shame;
fear of rejection + abandonment;
being HIGHLY sensitive;
overcoming fear;
solitary confinement;
intuition & empathy;
extreme feelings of loneliness;
understanding your triggers;
the power of validation and support groups;
and SO much more.
