“I should be more disciplined.” “I shouldn’t be feeling sad.” “I should have more hope.” “I shouldn’t eat this piece of bread.”   When you’re TTC, the “shoulding" is endless.    …about what you should do to optimize conception.   But more deeply rooted, about how you should feel.    Although you think the shoulding part of your brain might be the voice that “keeps you on track”…   The only track we keepin’ on with this voice… is one of constant self-rejection.   Mama bear, your feelings and emotions on this journey, are so valid.    The sadness, the fatigue, the disappointment, the desire to stop dieting… it’s ALL valid.    Is there room for change? Sure — but this is found INSIDE of validation and compassion for where you’re at FIRST.   A deep spiritual paradox is that acceptance = change.    So how do you offer this to yourself? I’m interviewing my money coach and friend – Serena Hicks – on today’s Fertile Ground Podcast. 

 

I love her. We met and vibed a year ago in Santa Monica when we attended a Life Coaching meet-up.

 

We hit it off because she talks about money, the same way that I talk about fertility. It’s all energy and learning how to partner with these energies to live our dream lives. 

 

Fertility and money can become intertwined because the fertility journey can be, well…expensive. 

 

So I asked if Serena would be a guest to help you manage your mind and energy around this topic. 

 

It’s so new for women to gather and openly discuss the topic of money. Women are just beginning to be in intimate relationships with money. Women weren’t even allowed credit cards until 1974. 90% of the world’s millionaires are men. It’s NUTS! 

 

Let’s put it this way: You can work with the energy of money and fertility at the same time. They are not as different as you think. They actually have so much in common. And it’s not more work to do this. It’s just a shift in what you believe.    Listen now!

I used to think I was “too controlling” — until I noticed my then 6 month old screaming until his face turned red, when gravity stole his ball away.

 

His little brain was thinking, “Nooooo…. I don’t want this to be happening! I want my ball back! Why don’t I have more controlll!”

 

It’s normal for us to want control. We were born wanting control.

 

It’s an important part of thenhuman design. It keeps us well and alive. 

 

But it becomes a bit more nuanced as you enter adulthood and find yourself in life’s challenges. 

 

The fertility journey has a knack for making you feel more out of control than you’ve ever felt in your life. “Why can’t I control what I’m supposed to do?”

 

The ego hates this. And it tends to double down when this happens. “Work HARDER. Push HARDER. Research HARDER. Don’t leave any stone unturned!!!” Which if we’re being honest, makes us feel even farther away from the goal. 

 

In today’s podcast, I’m going to discuss the topic of control to: 

1. Alleviate all the self-judgment you have around being “too controlling”

2. Offer a new solution when things really do start feeling too out-of-control and you need to feel like you have a handle on your life and fertility journey. 

3. Introduce a reframe around this topic of women being “too much.” Maybe this label of “too controlling” is more shit the patriarchy pours on us to keep us people pleasing as opposed to asking for what we really want?

“Wholeness” is so arbitrary.

 

What does it even mean… to achieve this state? To feel “whole” and complete and worthy of your baby?  

 

A great example is this… 

 

So many women try to be the “good girl” to get pregnant. To do/be/act perfect and then you’ll get pregnant. 

 

…Talk about arbitrary…perfection is impossible.

 

But even so — even tho we know it’s impossible — we still aim for it. Which is kinda fucked up.

 

But (and listen to this one please) the fucked up parts of us, they’re still lovable. And this is wholeness.

I’m releasing a podcast to let you in on my process of writing this magical, mystical, miraculous book on fertility.  As I previously shared, I went to Hawaii to get started on writing a book for you.  I wanna let you in on my process, because I think it’s important to share with you how I continue to apply everything I learned on my fertility journey, into real life. Just because you eventually have your baby, doesn’t mean your dreams stop. They go on. It’s scary. And you have to teach yourself safety in going after them. Otherwise your brain will always tell you: “No. It’s too scary. Too risky. And what if it doesn’t work out?” But you don’t know unless you try.  And what if it DOES work out even better than you imagined?  Wouldn’t it be beneficial to hear a real life story on how this plays out, to make it feel more doable and tangible?  I’m gonna share with you how it felt:

• Horribly uncomfortable. So much uncertainty. 

• So much vulnerability it required. I could have said no to avoid the feelings it evoked. But I’ve learned to listen to the whispers of my body and spirit.

The turn around:

• The words poured out of me. 

• Ended up being Hawaiian sacred land that healed me. 
• My heart bursted with gratitude. 

• Completely restored my nervous system.

What I’m taking home: 

• Slow things wayyyy down.

• Do things differently: Social media/Simplifying/Space to create the things I love.

With REGULAR GAS. You forgo the premium fuel that this seductive girl needs to run smoothly and with ease. It makes no sense. This vehicle is worth a lot (Starting at $167K USD). Why would you risk all this luxury with shitty fuel? You would NEVER. Right? So why the hell do we do this to OURSELVES? We invest so much time, money and energy into all the action inside of the fertility journey. The organic food, the high-end vitamins, the expensive treatments, the endless acupuncture/naturopath appts. But the fuel… the mindset.. the headspace we’re in while we “do the things”... The fuel (mindset/energy) inside of our action is like.. “K let’s get this over with so I can move onto the next thing.” There’s no life in the action. No space. No choice. No lux vibe. No joy. And this very often leads to burnout. Everything…  is just a means to an end.  But today, we’re changing this regular-ass gas and filling up your fertility journey with the PREMIUM fuel like the bentley queen you are️  Why? Contrary to popular cultural bull shit belief, the vibe inside of your action 100% influences the outcome. And this is GOOD NEWS. Cause it’s a great fucking excuse to make everyday to your baby and BEYOND… feel joyful. Luxurious. And like you really do have a choice and a healthy sense of control of your life.  Listen now!
