The Devils played a fine road game en route to denting the hopes of the Vegas Golden Knights after good stretches against Colorado and Seattle. Ultimately in those games, the Devils were undone by some woeful second period play and complete lack of production on the power play. Each game was almost more disappointing than the last as the Devils dropped stinkers against Boston, Florida and the Islanders. Three very varied losses, but heartbreaking ones all the same, have the Devils in a position where they should be questioning every part of the organization yet again.

The Devils dropped 3 games in a row by identical scores of 6-3 on their Western Canada road trip, which was impressive considering those scores were all achieved in very different ways. Tom Fitzgerald traded for a stopgap goaltender and not much else during the deadline in an attempt to make next year's Western Canada trip less abysmal.
