Fight Disciples Podcast

There's nothing better in sport than a comeback.

The team that are 3 nil down at half time that comes back to win.  The Tennis player facing match point whilst 2 sets down.  The fighter that is behind on the cards and pulls out that Hollywood punch.

Today we look at just that.

Here are our favourite five in fight comebacks.  Fighters on the verge of defeat that found something deep in their soul to have their hand raised in victory.

We have a new contender at Welterweight.

Gilbert Burns stepped up to take out Tyron Woodley with a dominant performance at the weekend and cement his name amongst the big boys at 170lbs.

We discuss the disappointment Leon Edwards must have felt watching at home.

The big story this week is the battle between Jon Jones and Dana White.  Has jones left the building?  This, Fight Island and UFC250 are all on the agenda.

This week we have seen plenty on mainstream media talking up a potential fight between Dillian Whyte and UFC Heavyweight Francis Ngannou.  Matchroom even organised a 'press conference' to stir up fan interest, but in the end it didn't materialise.

We ask what was the point?  Who benefits from a fight like that?

As well as this we look ahead to Top Rank returning to Las Vegas on June 9th, we look back a year to that famous night for Andy Ruiz Jr. and we talk about Charlie Edwards signing with Frank Warren.

12 months ago Callum Smith was making his first defence of his Super Middleweight world title against Hassan N'Dam in New York on the AJ vs Ruiz undercard.  A sensational knock out performance seemed to set him up for the super fight with Canelo Alvarez but it is yet to materialise.

Adam caught up with 'Mundo' to discuss his frustrating year and what he hopes will happen once we are out of lockdown.

Joe Joyce was due to fight Daniel Dubois but then COVID-19 hit.

Adam caught up with him to talk through his preparation in Las Vegas for that fight, sparring Francis Ngannou and keeping sharp by using a virtual computer game.

What an honour this is.

Cecilia Braekhus, the undefeated, the undisputed welterweight champion of the world and the first woman to hold all four major governing body world titles simultaneously, joined Adam for a chat.

They discussed starting out in fight sports as a young woman in a country that had banned professional boxing, the rise to welterweight supremacy and the super fights she still craves.

We've more action to preview this weekend as the UFC (hopefully) heads back to Las Vegas and the Apex.

Tyron Woodley fights Gilbert Burns and there's a few up and coming young fighters with a great opportunity to grab some headlines with a captive audience.

We also discuss Conor McGregor's GOAT list and the prospect of Jon Jones moving to heavyweight to take on Francis Ngannou.

Things are starting to move a little this week in Boxing.  Nevada state athletic commission are meeting to hopefully give the green light to the return of the sweet science in Las Vegas, which will mean Top Rank can continue with their plans for shows in June.

Also, there's a bit of news regarding a proposed location for the Fury vs Wilder trilogy fight.
