One of the hard lessons and skills many of us learn late in our careers is self-advocacy. While we may encounter mentors along the way, many times we have to find it within ourselves to self-advocate. These instances occur when we are looking for a promotion, asking for a raise, negotiating our salary and knowing our value. In this episode, Julieta LaMalfa, CFO at Canela Media, shares her personal journey and story on how she found her voice for self-advocacy.
Julieta shares some of her childhood experiences growing up in The Back of the Yards, raised in a Spanish speaking household and recognizing the language barriers that affected her confidence as a first gen college student and as an early careerist in a consulting firm. Julieta shares the pivotal moments in her career where she gained the confidence to self-advocate and how she found her voice. She also shares how she has managed to build and leverage her network as a Latina and how a conversation at a networking event led to her to making a new career move and into the role of CFO at Canela Media.
