Australian cricket royalty, raconteur, ice cream lover and passionate fisherman: We catch up with the great Merv Hughes in this week’s ep of the Food Bytes with Sarah Patterson podcast.
In his second appearance with us on the show, Merv regales us with nostalgic tales from his cricketing days, tells us why he’s now loving life in the commentary box … and why the greatest fishing trips don’t necessarily require you to catch any fish!
Merv also offers some handy advice on how to properly prepare and cook your catch of the day.
Our Food Poll this week centres on a traditional Aussie favourite: Do you prefer your lamingtons with jam, or au naturale?

He’s the most down-to-earth bloke you’re ever likely to meet, and we are delighted to launch into 2025 with high profile TV chef Curtis Stone as our special guest on the Food Bytes with Sarah Patterson podcast.
From growing up in Melbourne and discovering the joys of cooking with his grandma to family life in the US, running successful restaurants in LA and being the co-creator of Duraprès cookware, Curtis shares his remarkable life journey with us. It’s a fun chat with plenty of laughs.

Erik Thomson has been a well known and well loved face on our television screens and is currently playing Scrooge in the production of A Christmas Carol at the Comedy Theatre in Melbourne. He also has a new movie coming out. Erik takes time out from his busy schedule to share some thoughts about his acting career, his food memories of growing up in Scotland and a childhood Christmas present that still rates! We also debate haggis v sausages. The Food Poll is festively fruity as we put mangoes to the Yay or Nay test.
It is our last show for 2024 and Sarah and Kevin wish you a Happy and safe Christmas and look forward to bringing you the brilliant Curtis Stone in Episode 1 for 2025.

Tom Richards starred in some of the most popular television programs of the last 50 years, and we mean STARRED. As David Palmer in Sons and Daughters, he was one of TV's leading - though reluctant - sex symbols. Before that, he was a dynamo chasing baddies as Detective York in Matlock Police . But as you will discover in this episode, Tom is a very laconic, unaffected bloke who enjoyed his time in the limelight. He certainly was ahead of his time in his eating and lifestyle choices, but can he cook? Tom shares some wonderful memories of his days on set with Matlock and Sons and Daughters and one of his most treasured awards.
The Food Poll this week may rattle the festive party starters with a choice of salt and vinegar chips or barbecue.

Duncan Welgemoed has been variously described as part mythical beast, part troublemaker and part conversation starter. The part they left out was that he is the perfect guest for Food Bytes with Sarah Patterson. Duncan takes us through his culinary journey from South Africa to London then South Australia and introduces us to his stunning BBQ book called Cooking with Fire (Affirm Press). The dishes are spectacular and, teamed with Duncan's down to earth style, it makes for a totally entertaining and enriching podcast experience.

Award winning journalist Hamish Macdonald takes time out from his hectic schedule of television, radio and podcast hosting to share his passion for cooking and the kitchen. We get the good oil on his childhood memories, his signature dish and the odd celebrity chef inspired pasta disaster. Hamish takes us through his global media journey, the Q&A experience and delivers a shock revelation about backstage hospitality. The Food Poll this week doesn't quite come the raw prawn, but close. It's sushi. Is it a yay or a nay?

Joe Camilleri is an Australian music icon but do you know what sweet treat he hides in his glovebox? What animal he was petrified of as a kid? How the Black Sorrows got their name? And what about Joe's memorable days as a 'vegie roadie'? All is revealed when the man who gave us classic tunes like Hit and Run, Chained to the Wheel and Harley and Rose bares his soul with Sarah and Kevin. Warning: this program may contain traces of peanuts (like Joe's glovebox) and occasional references to food and beverage, but most of all it is a hoot with one of this country's most talented musicians. He is no ordinary Joe!
