The weather’s changing (it actually rained in L.A. — wut?), and with the cooler temps, it’s time to talk soup. Neither Kirk nor Lindsey eat soup on the regular, but when they do they both want A LOT of s**t in it. (Their words.) The two debate the differences between stew and soup, is soup better as a dinner or as lunch, are ramen and pho actually soup or are they something else completely, is Souplantation worth it, the genius of soup in a bread bowl, and has there ever been a canned soup worth consuming? Dig in!

20 episodes ago, Kirk and Lindsey did their first fine dining food auction. It failed. 10 episodes ago, they did their second fine dining food auction. It was…meh. Now, despite multiple protests from Lindsey, the two are doing ONE MORE auction to see who can come up with the best seven-course, fine dining menu. Who will win? Will they get it right this time? And will Kirk stick to his promise of this being the final one?

Every Sunday in downtown LA there is a food festival called Smorgasburg, so Kirk, Lindsey, Kirk’s family, and friend of Food Fight! (and Lindsey’s co-host of the very funny podcast, F*ck You, I’m Smarter) Kelly Wallace-Barnhill check it out in the very first Food Fight Field Trip! They eat food, judge food, explore Smorgasburg, eat more food, judge more food, offer food fest tips, eat even more food, judge even more food, and Lindsey & Kelly make fun of Kirk’s jeans. What better way to spend a Sunday?

It’s time for the first ever Food Fight Pot Luck Dinner! Kirk invites not only Lindsey over for dinner, but also friend of the podcast and frequent guest, Kelly Wallace-Barnhill! And not only do they feast on tons of yummy pot luck food (SO MUCH FOOD), the three dive deep into the social aspects of pot luck dinners, debating such topics as: Are random pot lucks better than themed? Is it okay to bring something not homemade? Can pot lucks be too competitive? How rude is it to actually cook your pot luck item at the host’s house? Can you keep bringing the same food to every pot luck? And, after all that eating (SO MUCH EATING), Kirk explains the concept of “Slumber Party Stomach.” Yes, that is the scientific terminology.

Did you know that there is an actual fear of cooking? It’s called mageirocophobia, and while Kirk and Lindsey don’t have it, they certainly are not the most prolific when it comes to home cooking. That’s why they brought on podcaster, Youtuber, author, and home-cooking expert Jackie Brubaker to talk about it! The three discuss when is home cooking NOT home cooking, is it stressful or relaxing, what’s the hardest thing to make, what’s the easiest, expectations vs. reality when it comes to home cooking, is grilling considered cooking, and, since Jackie used to own a cupcake shop — and was on ‘Cupcake Wars’ — Kirk dives deep (yet again) into why cupcakes are the worst.

Kirk and Lindsey judge food a little bit on Food Fight. Okay…A LOT. So, the two have just decided to lean into it for this episode and they’re putting on their black robes, picking up their gavels, and deciding which foods belong in “food jail.” Some of these foods are straight-up guilty (well-done steak), some are completely innocent (cilantro), and some have been falsely accused (cereal with no milk). Which foods will get pardoned, which ones will get life, and which ones will Kirk and Lindsey have to bust out of prison?

Cuban food rules. And even though Kirk and Lindsey don’t eat Cuban food often, that doesn’t stop them from having hot takes about it. The two debate plantains vs. yucca, would they eat a Cubano sandwich from a non-Cuban place, the best way to eat black beans and rice, is rum overrated, the greatness of guava & cheese strudels and how shameful it is that Lindsey doesn’t like them, and why Kirk hates…HATES…flan. Then for “How’s It Taste?“, Lindsey buys $80 worth of Cuban food while Kirk has to be talked off the ledge when he discovers there are onions on his sandwich de chorizo preparada.

Kirk went to college at the University of New Hampshire in the late ’80s/early ‘90s. Lindsey went to college at Miami University in the early to mid 2000s. But despite their different locations and slight (SLIGHT) age difference, they both have one thing in common; they both ate like trash monsters for all four years of higher learning. So that’s what this episode is all about! The two dig into all of the glorious sadness that is college food: ramen, cup o’ noodles, microwave nachos, late-night pizza, soup and crackers, Velveeta Mac & Cheese, frozen stir fry in a bag, even…rice cakes? And, apropos of nothing, Lindsey reveals that she didn’t know burps could smell until she went to college. Honestly, it’s amazing these two even graduated.

Blame Lindsey for the title of this week’s episode if you want, but she and Kirk are talking toast this week! The two get real as they debate how burnt is too burnt, is too toasted better than not toasted enough, best and worst breads to toast, best and worst spreads to put on toast, would they eat beans on toast, and do they really eat the last end piece of toast in the bag? Oh, and Kirk reveals a childhood trauma regarding toast that just might explain why he hates onions so much. (And, again, blame Lindsey for the title.)

Lindsey is still — STILL! — on vacation, so Kirk flies solo on this mini-episode. Where’s he flying to? Chicago! Earlier this summer Kirk visited the City of Big Shoulders, a city where he lived in his early 20s and that still holds tremendous sway with him, particularly when it comes to food. So while he was there, Kirk recorded a little travelogue/food log of every single place he ate while in Chicago. And if it seems like all he did on his vacation was eat, that’s because THAT’S ALL HE DID.
