Sgt Joel Flores was a Radio Operator in the United States Marine Corps and is now serving his community as a police officer in Colorado.

While in the Marine Corps, Joel participated in providing humanitarian assistance for the citizens of Haiti after the island was struck by a devastating earthquake in 2009. We also discuss Joel's transition from the military and he details his experience attending the Denver Sheriff Training Academy and what it was like to work in the jail system.

Finally, we discuss Joel moving from the Denver Sheriff's Office to working in the private sector before ultimately joining the local police department. Joel was a solid Marine that I personally worked with and he's great dude. Enjoy!

This week's episode features my friend from 2nd Battalion 10th Marine Regiment, Sgt Robert Meyer. Robert is a Fire Direction Control Marine who worked in the 2/10 survey section and also deployed to Iraq with a Civil Affairs detachment.

Michael Hanthorne is back on the show and it's a good one! We recorded this episode after Christmas when I traveled home for the holidays and we get into different aspects of the military, lots of car stuff, current events and more.

I give a quick description of the targeting process downrange and the different roles other members of 3rd Battalion 6th Marine Regiment and I had during one of our strikes. This strike involved an investigation because of an alleged civilian casualty but it was clear from the video feeds that insurgents brought an injured girl from elsewhere.

This week I interview SSgt Quentin Brown who is a former Marine Fire Support Man and Joint Terminal Attack Controller. Quentin served with 5th ANGLICO, 11th Marines, 3rd LAR and Raider Battalion during his 8-year stint in the Marine Corps.

We discuss his time living in Okinawa and his multiple deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and elsewhere. The realities of working with different personalities are brought to light and a surprising revelation is made in the last portion of the interview.

Quentin now lives in Ohio and works for three different fire departments and I look forward to our next interview.

Ep. 017 features Maj Kevin Shipton who is an artillery officer and Joint Terminal Attack Controller (JTAC) that has worked with 2nd Battalion 10th Marines, 3rd Battalion 6th Marines, 1st ANGLICO, 3D ANGLICO and now he is part of a new advisor unit in the reserves.

Kevin and I worked together at 2/10 and we deployed as part of the same battalion fire support team supporting 3/6 during their 2011 deployment to Marjah, Afghanistan.
