The 10 rules of Ikigai: These are the rules that the longest living people in the world follow (centenarians) to live a balanced and healthy life way into their senior years. The authors of the book ‘Ikigai’ (which is loosely translated as your reason for being or simply your purpose in life), interviewed over 100 people living in Ogimi in Japan which also had the nickname ‘The Village of Longevity’. They distilled their findings into what they call the ‘simple secrets to a long and happy life’. Let’s try to incorporate these on our journey to Financial Independence.
In part 1, I discuss rules 1-5. I will then discuss rules 6-10 on the following episodes. Enjoy!

This week I’ll be giving you my 3 biggest lessons learned from the mindset shifting book Die With Zero ‘Getting All You Can from Your Money and Your Life’, written by Bill Perkins in 2020. This is not your typical FI book, but it helped shift our thinking - especially those in the FIRE community - on how we use money to get maximum fulfilment and enjoyment out of our lives.

This episode wraps up the 5 part mini-series on the Financial Independence books that have helped us on our journey… and we’re still on that journey!

On this episode I share 3 big lessons I learned from the book How to Retire Early ‘Your Guide to Getting Rich Slowly and Retiring on Less' by Robert and Robin Charlton. This was an awesome hidden gem of a FIRE book, and what made it even more awesome was that both Robert and Robin retired early at the age of 43 without earning massive salaries to travel the world. They were not Engineers, Doctors or Lawyers and FIRE’d through consistency, hard work and time. Now the authors do things they love like travelling and creative writing using the Financial Freedom they gained.

On this episode I share 3 big lessons I learned from the book The Simple Path to Wealth by JL Collins. This is one of my favourite books on the FIRE movement and it helped me a lot to understand more about the stock market and index fund investing during my early research days.

We’re continuing our mini-series of the 3 biggest lessons I’ve learnt from Financial Independence books that have helped me on my journey (which I’m still on btw!). On this episode we’ll be diving into the book Quit Like a Millionaire - No Gimmicks, Luck or Trust Fund Required, written by Kristy Shen and Bryce Leung. They both retired in their early 30’s as Software Engineers to travel the world, write and help other people on their journeys as well.
