Our special guest will be 42 year FDNY veteran Deputy Chief Vincent Dunn. He would serve seven years as a firefighter, nine years as a company officer and 26 years as a chief officer. In 1952 he joined the U.S. Navy. He joined the FDNY in 1957 and was assigned to Engine 59 Manhattan. From 1964 to 1967 was Lieutenant at Engine 33 . From 1967-1973 was Captain of Engine Company 58 in Harlem. Promoted to Battalion Chief in 1973 and assigned to Battalion 25. Promoted to Deputy Chief in 1977 and assigned to Division 7. He transferred to Division 3 in 1984. He retired in 1999. He has had countless, countless, countless seminars and books on high-rise firefighting, terrorism tactics, collapse rescue operations just to name a few. Our special guest will be 39 year Boston Fire Department veteran District Fire Chief Paul Carey. He was appointed to the BFD on 12/8/82 after 5 years as an EMT on Boston EMS. He then was assigned to E22 in the South End. In 1987 he transferred to Rescue 1. He was promoted to LT. in 1992 and covered as a LT. in R1 until being assigned to E37 in Roxbury in 1993. Promoted to Captain in 1996 and stayed there as a covering Captain for about a year, In 1998 he was assigned as Captain of E28 in Jamaica Plain. In 2000 he went to the FIU/Arson Squad as a Fire Marshal until 2002 and then went back to E37 as the Captain. In 2005 transferred to E52 in Mattapan. In 2008 he transferred to Rescue 2 for 8 years until getting promoted to District Chief in 2016. He floated until 2018 and was assigned to District 4 where he worked until he retired at age 65.
He was also on the State Hazmat Team for 32 years, and the first MA. JHAT (combination Hazmat/ Bomb Squad) for the State. The Chief was also a Rescue Squad Officer with FEMA USAR MA Task Force 1 since 1994 and deployed to the WTC on 911. Around 2002 he became the HAZMAT/WMD Team manager on the Task Force. Chief Terpak has been in the fire service for 45 years spending the last 36 years with the Jersey City Fire Department. Throughout his career he has worked in the city’s Lafayette and Greenville areas with Engines 10 & 17, Ladder 12, Rescue 1, Chief of the city’s 2nd Battalion and the former Chief in-charge of the city’s Training Division. In addition to the above, he was also the High-Rise Training Coordinator for Jersey City. He recently retired as a Deputy Chief and City-Wide Tour Commander in 2017. Chief Terpak travels extensively around the country lecturing on fire/rescue topics and is the founder of Promotional Prep, a New Jersey based consulting firm designed to prepare firefighters and fire officers studying for promotional exams. Our special guest will be 53 year FDNY veteran Fire Commissioner Dan Nigro.
He was appointed in 1969 and assigned to Engine 21. In 1977 was promoted to Lt. and worked in Engine 35. In 1982 became Captain of Engjne 8. Was promoted in 1986 to Battalion Chief and assigned to Bn 19. Was in HQ from 1988-1991. From 1991-92 worked in Bn 28. 1993 was promoted to Deputy Chief and assigned to Div 3. In 1995 promoted to Deputy Assistant Chief Operations. In 1996 Chief of EMS. In 1997 to Assistant Chief Operations. In 1999 Chief of Operations. 2001 Chief of Department. He Retired from FDNY in 2002. Became Fire Commissioner in 2014 until 2022. He was instrumental in merging the Emergency Medical Service into the FDNY. Following the September 11th attacks on the World Trade Center, he was appointed Chief of Department with the death of Chief Peter J. Ganci, Jr. He was responsible for overseeing all rescue and recovery operations at the World Trade Center site and the beginning of the unprecedented rebuilding of the Department. Commissioner Nigro is only the sixth individual to hold every rank in the Department in the agency's history.
