In Ghostly’s eighteenth episode, Pat and Rebecca explore the phenomenon known as Ouija boards. These modern talking boards have been sold in the game aisle of our favorite stores for years as a game for kids, but is it really a game? Can we really talk to spirits using a Ouija board? Listen and hear the history of this famous parlor game as well as Pat and Rebecca’s personal experiences with their own spirit boards.
Questions explored in this episode: What is a Ouija board and how is it used? What are the rules for using a Ouija board? What is the history of the Ouija board? Is it a game? Can it contact spirits and/or demons? How long have people been using talking boards? When should people avoid using Ouija boards? Who is Zozo and why are people so scared of it?
Then listen to the Great Debate! Rebecca and her friend Cheryl tell the story of when they used the Ouija board as young teenagers and what happened when they did. Pat also tells his personal story of using the board and what happened in the aftermath. Both stories cause much debate. Then Rebecca tells more of the demon Zozo and Pat tries to sell us on the power of belief…and disbelief.
Be sure to stay for the whole episode to hear the “Closing Arguments” to help you make your choice before voting. And stay on afterwards for a very special bonus with two great young people debating their own ghost story.

In Ghostly’s first BONUS EPISODE, Pat and Rebecca go deeper into the history of H.H. Holmes, one of America’s first serial killers. Holmes was a murderer and a con man who almost got away with escalating his killing to even worse levels, but his greed got in the way. We told you part of the story in our main episode – here is the rest. Listener beware – this is a disturbing story and may not be appropriate for all ages/constitutions.
Questions explored in this episode:
Pat tells more of Holmes’s murderous history in this episode, with Rebecca providing commentary, and, of course, some debate on what we know and what we don’t know about H.H. Holmes and his gruesome crimes.

In Ghostly’s fifteenth episode, Pat and Rebecca along with their friend Mondo explore H.H. Holmes, America’s first serial killer. He built himself a Murder Castle in Chicago during the 1893 World’s Fair, luring women to his apartment building, only to kill them and steal their money. The story his reign of terror ends with him fleeing across both the U.S. and Canada and eventually being caught and executed. Or was he?
Questions explored in this episode: Who was H.H. Holmes? Why is he called America’s first serial killer? Should he be called a serial killer? What were his crimes? What was the Murder Castle like? Is the spot of the Murder Castle still haunted today? Did Holmes die at his execution? Did he kill those who took part in his execution after the fact (alive or as a ghost)? Does he or do his victims still haunt Chicago?
[Starts at 14:14] Listen to hear Pat give the history of H.H. Homes. After exploring his childhood, Pat goes into Holmes’s desire to be a doctor and pharmacist along with his love of skeletons and money. He reviews the building of the murder castle and how it connects to the Colombian Exposition, or 1893 World’s Fair. There are too many stories and victims to fit into one episode, so Pat wants to know…would you like to hear a special episode devoted just to the history of H.H. Holmes? If you do, be sure to vote in our Facebook poll!
[Starts at 56:02] After the history, listen to Rebecca tell the ghost story, putting the listen in the moment of what it would be like to be one of H.H. Holmes’s victims and learn why their spirits may still haunt that spot.
[Starts at 58:55] Then listen to the Great Debate! Rebecca, Pat, and Mondo

In Ghostly’s fourteenth episode, Pat and Rebecca explore the Peshtigo Fire on October 8th, 1871 in Peshtigo, WI. The fire is one of the deadliest in all of US history and killed many more people and damaged more acres than The Great Chicago Fire, which happened on the same night. The story of this tragic fire continues to this day, with many stories of shadows, voices, and mysterious figures seen throughout the area. Are they real?
Questions explored in this episode: What happened the day of the fire? What caused the fire? Was the cause man-made? What was it like to live through this event? Why did so many fires happen in this area of the country that night? What happened to the spirits of those that died? What stories do people who live in the area tell? What evidence has been found by paranormal investigators? What is the story of Sister Adele and one of the few blessed sites in the United States? Is Peshtigo, WI haunted?
Listen to hear Pat give the history of the fire and what happened, then hear Rebecca tell the haunting stories of those that still live in and visit the area today. Afterwards, both hosts debate and explore these tales as well as an alternate theory for the cause of all the fires that occurred in the Great Lakes region that night.
We want to hear from you! This fire has led to many reports of specters, black shadow figures, red lights, blue fog, and even a Lady in White. If you’ve seen any of these and have stories to tell about the Peshigo area and the fire, please share with us on Facebook or via email, [email protected].
Listen to both sides and decide what you believe. Be sure to stay for the whole episode to hear the “Closing Arguments” to help you make your choice.

In Ghostly’s thirteenth episode, Pat and Rebecca celebrate six months of Ghostly as well as National Poetry Month by exploring the haunting history of Edgar Allan Poe and the ghostly sightings that have continued after his death. Questions explored in this episode: What tragedies happened to Poe throughout his life? What is the mystery surrounding his death? What are the main theories about this death? What happened to his grave? Does he haunt his grave? Is his spirit haunting the house he shared with his 13-year-old cousin – who also became his wife? What influenced Poe the writer?
In this episode Pat gives the history of Poe’s life and Rebecca discusses Poe the writer and then tells the story of Poe’s ghost. Afterwards, both hosts debate and explore these ghost sightings and devolve into a debate about windows. They also reveal the story of the “Poe Toaster”!
