Leo Lungaro had an amazing and successful 20 year career in the NYPD as a Police Officer, Detective and Sergeant working in multiple high level units. In the 1990’s, New York City’s crime rate was at historic highs, and in the midst of that Sgt. Lungaro was assigned to the 30th Precinct in Harlem. While trying to gain community support for the police and developing a new concept to combat crime, Leo found himself surrounded by the worst corruption scandal in the history of the NYPD.

On this inspirational Episode of GOLD SHIELDS, Dan and Tom interview Sgt. Kimber Gist of the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office in South Carolina. In February 2016, while investigating a suspicious vehicle, the driver opened fire on Kimber at point blank range shooting her 8 times, including in her face, stomach, knee and foot. Kimber was able to return fire during the incident, before collapsing and being assisted by a passer by who called 911 for assistance. Kimber endured an eight hour surgery, and returned to work one year later. Hear this incredible story of courage, bravery, survival, and inspiration, all of which was needed for this incredible woman to make it back to the job she loves. Tania is a Retired 32 year Law Enforcement veteran, 30 years of that serving in the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department as a Detective. Tania had an impressive career with assignments such as Patrol, Child Sex Abuse Unit, Negotiator, Arson/Explosion and K9. Her life then changed on October 5, 2016, when her husband, Sgt. Steve Owen was murdered, execution style, when he responded to a Burglary in-progress call. Steve was shot multiple times and succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. Tania will take you through her career, that tragic day, and then her journey out of the darkness of depression. With the help of her families strong Faith in God, she was able to "put her big girl pants" on and tackle life head on, becoming an inspiration to many other survivors, and a best selling author of her book, "After the Badge". This is one episode that you cannot miss. It was an emotional show to do, but we got through it, and its very important to Dan and Tom that you hear Tania's story.
