How To Sell Anything to Anyone

Some of you might be familiar with this video from Dan Lok where he talks about getting someone to sell him a random pen. If you haven't watched it, you may be familiar with this scene in Wolf of Wall Street where a character asks someone to sell them a random pen. The concept is simple - they were trying to learn how to sell anything to anyone. This is how I think you can achieve that.

    Hook

First, you've got to come up with the hook. A hook is something that will grab your attention. Is it that clickbait title? Is it the thumbnail? The caption? Whatever it is, you've got to grab your audience's attention.

There are tons of content out there, whether it's on Facebook, YouTube or Instagram. Your goal is to make them pause for that one second and have them click on it so they can consume your content.

    Story

After grabbing their attention, you've got to retain it. This is the fun part to me, because I love sharing and I believe that people love stories. People are constantly following other people on the internet, in hopes of getting to witness some stories. Storytime videos are available on YouTube. People make threads where they tell stories on Twitter. People love typing long stories on Instagram.

Tell your story, in relation to the product you're selling. Going back to the pen example, if I were to attach a story to a pain that would increase its value, I would probably come up with a story where this pen was the exact brand and type that was used to sign a country's independence. Suddenly, this pen's perceived value is higher.

    Offer

Now comes another fun part - the offer. You see, you have to understand that your offer is not your product or your service. Your offer is a curated package of everything that comes WITH your product. Take gym memberships for example, people love to sell a one month gym membership and give you three months for free. That's a bad offer, because people can easily model you, and suddenly your offer isn't unique or good anymore.

What if I told you that I would give you a pre-recorded training by three top personal trainers when you sign up for a one-month gym membership, along with a three-meal meal plan for the entire month, and a list of recommended supplements you would need?

This is what I would coin an irresistible offer. All these added bonuses are easy to obtain too and you just need to prepare the material once!

This is how you sell anything to anyone - by using Hook, Story and Offer. What'll really get them is when you bundle things up in your offer, but to get them to see your offer, make sure you've got the hook and the story.

Generate Unlimited Content Idea For Your Business

Usually, after watching a video of mine regarding content marketing and personal branding, people will ask me questions with regards to what they should post and how to create content for it. I even did a survey once to 100 over people across the globe to find out their no. 1 struggle in personal branding and 59% of them say that they don't even know what to post about their industry. A second obstacle that they face is that they don't have the necessary skills such as video editing, graphic design or copywriting. However, these aren't really obstacles that you can't overcome. Just do this...

    Success Modelling

You see, there are already content out there that are proven to work, go viral or raise engagement. All you have to do is model success. Success modelling is basically looking at content available on the internet by your competitors or people who are at the stage where you wish you could be. It could be a video on YouTube or a post on Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn.

I look at guys like Gary V and Russell Brunson to study their content and specifically pick out those that are popular and engaging. I will take down details from the title and description, right down to the tags and I will try to improve it however I can by adding my own twist to it, such as incorporating my own story.

If I am able to make it 1% better, then I have found my content. Following this direction, I would be able to amass a whole library of content that is proven to work.

If you think this is tiresome and takes a lot of effort, I won't deny and say it isn't. You've got to put in the work. If you can't find the time to do it, however, there is another method.

    Keyword Search

You can visit answerthepublic.com. This is a website where if you key in a keyword and click enter, the website will scour Google and come up with headlines that people search for.

For example, if you search for personal branding, they might come up with keywords like:

    What is personal branding?

    Why personal branding?

    How is personal branding important?

You can use the results to create content.

    Outsource

You can also outsource, There is no shame is letting someone do it for you if you think they can value add to your content. Just look for freelancers on Fiverr or you can get someone to success model, keyword search and list out content that they think you should create.

Soon, you will be able to generate unlimited content ideas for your business. This is what I do for my company and it helps add credibility to my business as well. Start working on your personal branding by creating content today.

  • 025: Eliminate Your Competitors & Charge Higher

Eliminate Your Competitors & Charge Higher

I believe this is something that many entrepreneurs and business owners aim to do - eliminate your competitors and charge higher. While you may think it's easier said than done, I actually found a strategy that allowed me to do just that.

My name is Wilson Komala. I own an agency that earns six-figures but it didn't always start out this way. This is my story.

Just like any other business, I encountered a struggle in sales and had to participate in many price wars, much to my hesitation. I didn't know what price to quote and people started negotiating, putting my business and my services down in the process. It's always the same few questions that they like to ask.

"What portfolio do you even have?"

"Is this guaranteed to give me results?"

"I know of Company X, who is willing to charge me half the price. Why is your package so expensive?"

Even if you're confident that you can deliver and have a great portfolio, people still like to ask these questions. I'm pretty sure you have gone through something similar. Even after they have signed the contract with you, they'll still make passing remarks and tell you that you're expensive.

I went online to research on the big guys in the industry - Pico, Vayner media, WPP, etc, and something I picked up from Gary Vaynerchuk is that he puts out content through his personal social media. This was extremely interesting to me. I think he doesn't even have a company YouTube account.

There and then, I asked myself. Why am i still posting content on my brand account, if sharing it on my personal account has a 150% increase in post reach? I decided to implement it and amazingly, I could really tell the difference.

I did two types of personal branding

    Offline

I put myself out there and did a lot of seminar workshops around the region. Most of these were pro bono or could only cover my travelling costs. After one to two years, I got invited to secondary schools and universities in Singapore to share my entrepreneurial journey.

I was also involved in KOTRA, a South Korea and Switzerland funded incubator program.

When I started trying to charge higher when I held seminars or workshops, no one negotiated the price with me anymore. There was very little discussion, because my portfolio speaks for itself. They did not compare me to others because I set myself apart when I put myself out there and made a name for myself.

    Online

I curated content and shared value online as well, to build up my personal brand. I did everything from podcasts, blogs, videos and even short form content on social media. The organic content marketing was great and really attracted the kind of audience that truly needed the value I put out.

I did most of these for free.

Why, you ask? I did it to establish my expert status in the field. Experts aren't afraid that people will steal their content and teach it. They freely give it out and usually people always come back to me to inquire more and learn more. Then, they refer their friends to me.

It has become a sustainable and automated system, and it is all because of personal branding.

Kim Kardashian sells out everything she puts out, because it's got her name on it. Don't let your business speak for you. You have to speak for your business, and the business will come.

  • 024: Professional Vs. Amateur

    024: Professional Vs. Amateur

Do you want to know the difference between an amateur and a professional? My mentor shared with me that it's their consistency. Even Bruce Lee stands by this notion. He shared this - I fear not a man who has practiced 10,000 kicks, but I fear the man who has practiced one kick 10,000 times. Truthfully thinking, it made sense and so, keeping this in mind, I tried to implement it in my business.

As entrepreneurs, I understand that it's difficult for you to stay still. We see things differently. When we see something an opportunity that we can utilise or a problem that we can solve with our innovation, we usually jump at it real quick, but this can prove to be out downfall.

If we were to keep switching our signature and our unique selling point, the direction of our company would never remain! I had this problem give years ago, while running my own agency. This was during the era where people needed digital services - copywriting, website creation, social media management, video, etc. I wanted to help solve problems, and the direction of my agency kept changing.

    However, this has its cons.

    Manpower

When you want to provide a new service, you need manpower. Every person you hire has individual skills and if you want to expand your services, you have to hire. This costs money and more often than not, you will need to stretch your manpower.

    Portfolio

Your portfolio can't be used. Even if you have done a lot of things prior, coming up with a new service means your previous portfolio doesn't stand for anything. It's like applying for a job in digital marketing when you've done everything except that!

That's why, since 2 years ago, I always remind my team to stick to what we're doing to the point where we become experts. Of course, we all struggled because our culture has always been about innovation and adding value to things all the time, but we stuck to it, and our quality has improved leaps and bounds.

It's not just me who notices the differences. They do too, and when they see how much they've grown, they're inspired and remain extremely driven.

As for myself, I do a lot of speaking engagements and at every single one, I always try to think of different things to touch on and change my speaking style but recently, I've been focused on 2 topics only - personal branding and growth hacking.

I implore you to explore your consistency. Often, it may be the thing that can set you apart from anybody else.

  • 023: Best Marketing Technique In 2020

022: Best Marketing Technique In 2020

Marketing techniques come and go. There's paid advertising, YouTube, Instagram and Facebook advertising and SEO and SEM. New techniques are always surfacing and as times change, so should your approach. 2020 has indeed been a confusing year, especially with the recent news involving Covid-19 which has changed practically everything. However, I am certain that this is the best marketing technique in 2020.

Before we move on, however, you have to understand the three different types of traffic.

    Paid Traffic

This is traffic which you pay for. There are different platforms you can pay to, such as Facebook or Google to blast your content and put it out there. While there is guaranteed results, since you pay for it, it is not sustainable as this means that you would have to keep paying to get the same kind of results everytime. Also, people can tell that your traffic is paid and oftentimes, paid traffic do not give off a very good impression.

People will feel as if you needed to pay to get anyone to look at you.

    Earned Traffic

Earned traffic is traffic that you (you guessed it!) earned. This kind of traffic can refer to your SEO ranking or Google map ranking. When your rankings are higher, it means that when people search for a keyword that relates to your business, mentions of your business will pop up higher up the list.

If you ranked super high, you would be on the first page of Google search.

This kind of traffic is really great. However, it would take you a long time and extensive work to reach that level.

    Owned Traffic

This traffic is traffic that you own. This means that you already have a method to reach these people, such as your email list or your followers on Facebook and Instagram. You can easily reach out to them and market to them for free.

Again, this traffic needs to be slowly amassed.

    Which Should You Pick?

After understanding the three types of traffic, you might be wondering, which is best?

While it's great to try to implement every kind of traffic, provided you have the manpower and time, there is one that's a little trickier - paid traffic.

If you wish to do paid traffic, ensure that your paid traffic will give you 2x ROI (Return on Investment). If you're paying $1, make sure you get a return of $2. This way, you aren't wasting your money.

If you paid $20 to get leads and maybe 10 people respond to your ad and sign up, probably only 4 or 5 people would end up closing the deal with you. The amount of money you earn from closing the deals would have to surpass the $20 you spend, in order for your investment to be worth it.

If you think it's risky, there is something that you can try - personal branding. You're right if you're thinking this is a never-ending price war, because keywords, ads and influencer marketing prices is constantly on the rise. Everybody wants to be on the front page and everyone is willing to pay for it, but if you have personal branding, you would've secured a spot for yourself without paying a cent.

Focus on paid traffic first, while you build your personal brand, then you can create a system for yourself and gain a better understanding of your audience, practicing earned and owned traffic.

This is truly the best marketing technique in 2020 that many will not do, because it involves people putting themselves out there but if you are 100% confident in your product and service, you should be your biggest advocate. Work on your personal brand today.

  • 022: Am I Too Late To Start Online Business in 2020

Am I Too Late To Start Online Business in 2020

This is a question that people love to ask me whenever I speak in events - Am I too late to start an online business in 2020?

    Short Answer

    No.

    Long Answer

Absolutely not! The best time to start your business was yesterday, but the next best time is right now. There's proof all around you that regardless of when you start, you should. My mentor, Russell Brunson, has a funnel hacking community and he created something called the two comma club - this is an exclusive club for people who make $1 Million in a year.

There has never been a single year where there weren't new entrants. Last year, over 200 people go that award. Sure, you might think you're late because you aren't a part of them but there is next year.

Make a choice. Do you want to regret and hate yourself for not being part of next year's entrants or start right now?

Afraid of competition? There are a lot of things you can do. New platforms are always coming up. Right now, Tik Tok is overwhelmingly popular. Get on it!

Even if you can't grasp the new platforms, just go for Instagram or Facebook. The great thing is, since there are a lot of people who have tried to build a business before you, you can learn from their mistakes and model their successes. It's a win-win no matter how I think about it

  • 021: 2 Keys To Grow Any Businesses

2 Keys To Grow Any Businesses

Having consulted more than 500 businesses, I wanted to find out if there was a strategy that I could come up with that would be a one-fits-all solution to any type of business. This was a challenge that I set for myself and guess what, I did discover one! It’s what all the big companies like Tesla, Apple and Microsoft are doing. They evaluate their buyer's journey. Normally, they start from awareness, before ending up in retention or revenue but most successful businesses will know to include the final step - Referral. With that, you just need the two keys to grow any business. What are they, you may ask?

    Increase the Conversion Rate

In every step, try to increase the conversion rate. From awareness to acquisition and from revenue to retention and finally to referral. You see, the more people that go through this buyer journey, the more people will end up on the last stage - referral. At this point, your word of mouth will spread like crazy. Ask anybody in the world, if they know what Apple is. No, it isn’t the fruit. It’s the brand. And they only know, because so many people are sharing about it and advocating for it.

    Fill In Unlimited Traffic

From the top to the bottom of the funnel, people are likely to leave at every stage and lesser and lesser people go down the buyer journey to end up at referral. For maximum results, fill in the funnel with unlimited traffic.

    How, you ask?

    Personal Branding.

It’s like marketing, but for yourself and there are a few reasons why I encourage this over marketing your company. Let me ask you, why do people buy from Kim Kardashian? Anything she puts out, it gets sold out. It’s her personal branding. People want to buy it because it’s associated with her and anything she sells, they think that it would never be bad!

Imagine if people thought of you that way. Anything you put out, they believe in!

And there you have it, you just need these 2 keys to grow your business. Get started today.
