After a fun evening of swapping tool stories from Tim’s youth, Tim invites Mr. Leonard on Tool Time to impart some more of his shop teacher wisdom. When Mr. Leonard’s arthritis makes it difficult for him to operate a tool on set, Tim tries to jump in and help - and in response, Mr. Leonard yells at him in front of the whole crew and storms off set. Back home, Wilson helps Tim understand that Mr. Leonard feels emasculated by his inability to do the tool stuff that he conflates with manhood, and Tim resolves to try and derive his manhood from his family and friends, not his ability to use tools.

  • Ye Olde Shoppe Teacher
Tim invites his old high school shop teacher, Mr. Leonard, over for dinner to reminisce, but it turns out that these days, Mr. Leonard is frustrated with being forced to retire. To honor him, and rectify this travesty, Tim invites Mr. Leonard on Tool Time as a special guest for a salute to Shop Class.
However, on air, Mr. Leonard’s arthritis prevents him from being able to cut sheet metal, and when Tim offers his help, Mr. Leonard explodes with anger and storms off set. Realizing that he broke the “golden rule of men… never offer help if they don’t ask”, he approaches Mr. Leonard to apologize.

When Tim and Jill learn that Wilson is having his house appraised, they fear that their beloved neighbor is planning to move. Over a Thanksgiving dinner at Wilson's wildly appointed house, they find out that it's true - he's planning to pack up and move to the jungles of Ecuador. Tim and Jill can't imagine a life without Wilson, especially once Tim meets the frosty couple who're looking to buy his house. In the backyard the following day, Wilson confides in Tim that he's moving to Ecuador because that's where he first met his late wife Katherine, and that he hopes to feel closer to her by returning there. Tim quotes Wilson some Mario Andretti that convinces him that the best way to retain that connection is by staying where he is and keeping her memory alive by sharing it with the people around him. Meanwhile, Tim tries to dispose of a dead, rotted rat in his walls.

Randy, feeling left out because he doesn’t share Tim and Brad’s love of tool stuff, begins to take out his frustrations by needling Brad and threatening to tell his girlfriend about Brad’s crush on Heidi. Ultimately Tim resolves the conflict between the boys by bonding with Randy over their shared love of insult comedy and video games.

    Episode Synopsis:

After videotaping Jill's speech at the opening of the new (and very well funded) library, Tim takes the camcorder with him to the hardware store - where he accidentally tapes himself joking around with the guys about how he thought her speech was boring -- almost as boring as he finds her newfound interest in psychology. When Jill winds up seeing the tape, she's furious at Tim, who insists that it's unfair to judge him for a private conversation among guys. Wilson tries to defend Tim's actions to Jill, but she counters him with some well researched psychological opinions about the nature of gossip, and Tim, after trying and failing to explain his actions to his sons, apologizes to Jill and resolves to start reading everything she reads in order to better understand her interests.

  • Let’s Go to the Videotape
When Jill asks Tim to record her speech for a library function, he inadvertently records himself with the Harry and Eddie at the hardware store all calling their wives boring. Tim, not to be outdone, puts down Jill’s speech, communication in their relationship, and even just talking about studying psychology. However, when Al and Ilene come over to watch the speech, they are then treated to the additional footage, which sparks a heated argument between Tim and Jill.
