"They offered me 35 years for my drug charges. I didn’t take the plea and I have no idea what will happen."

Ronnie went from prisoner to social worker. He spoke at schools, worked with inmates, and preached at the local jail.

But in 2016 the threat of losing his children through divorce took him back out.

"I ended up getting raided by law enforcement in September 2021. At that time, I had no desire to stop using. I was mad at God. Very upset, bitter, and carrying lots of resentment. One of the requirements with my bond, the Judge had me get into a drug program. It was in AA meetings, working the steps, hearing stories of addiction, my heart started to be softened."

"I resented being told that I had to be called an addict for the rest of my life and had no sovereignty or autonomy. I had enough white key tags to tile a room."

Anders Beatty lived in addiction fr 25 years. He tried every modality available to no avail:

8 years ago, he found his way to a happier life through Ibogaine.

Jamie lost 6 years of his life locked up and double that to addiction.

"I got kicked out of anger management for fighting."

Today Jamie spends his days building his contracting company and working with the organization “Touched By Addiction”.

“I recovered from alcoholism with LSD 22 years ago. And if you find something that works, you want to share it, right?”

Garyth is an Ibogaine provider and psychedelic practitioner in Vancouver British Columbia.

Amanda's boots-on-the-ground vantage point around addiction has given Amanda a crystal clear perspective that "not one size fits all" when it comes to addiction services and that while there are a multitude of services, accessing them is the main problem.

"You want people to be responsible in community but they're not being given the tools, then you wonder why they go back to their old lifestyle.
It's because there's no easy access to services and a lack of stability, people can only stay in a shelter for 3 days, and are expected to find housing in that time."

Let's face it, this is an unreasonable expectation and incredibly overwhelming task, many don't have the pre-requisites (ID, funding, mental health/addictions/community support, criminal record) and case loads and wait times are too long. Plus, you have individuals being released on conditions that they cannot possibly comply with due to these same barriers.

"They spend millions of dollars and hours talking about problems, why can't they do the same for solutions? We know what the solutions are, but those in power don't want to talk about that."

Matt started drinking at 16 years old, started using hard drugs at 18.

Matt was never on the street, but he bounced around sober houses, lived in cars and in friend's porches for over 18 months.
“I just got kicked out of sober living for relapsing on computer duster, I put hands on my girlfriend and that’s when I knew I needed to try treatment one more time.”

“Good days are guilt, I feel like I killed my son because I called the cops, and they shot him.”

Carey lost her son in 2018. Substance use and mental health were at the root of it all.

“Nobody believed us, he was so intoxicated at the emergency room after a suicide attempt and they just gave him more meds and released him.”

Attempt, after attempt it seemed help was nowhere to be found. All the doctors would do is prescribe and prescribe until one day the insanity came to a boiling point.

“He didn’t have time to talk, he just wanted to say goodbye. We were catching him trying to commit suicide all the time. He was just out of the psych ward a day and a half and he had a gun to his head. We called the cops. And now he’s gone."

Dr. Kim Hellemans is a teaching professor and Associate Dean of Science at Carleton University, and the co-host of the popular podcast, Minding the Brain.

While Dr. Hellemans is incredibly accomplished, she is equally personable,
