In this last episode of Heads Talk for 2022, we celebrate this festive season with my brilliant guest today Maria Anhalt, CEO Elektrobit. Stay tuned for a January 2023 start to the New Series, to be announced then - #HT???

I say interesting quite often and believe me the conversations have been. But, this conversation with Maria was extra fascinating when we talked about the capabilities within the organisation and their peers in terms of what could be created. The only question left to answer was should this be done. 

Technology organisations are such that they can develop for example tools/software to know whether an individual is drunk while driving or whether an actual individual  (who claims to be) was driving a car. Fascinating stuff. Maria and I talked about the technology and the capabilities to include cybersecurity management, data ownership, monetisation of such data etc; but we also talked about the moral and legal ramifications of some of this. It was a dialogue that marvelled at the 'could' stage of development, exactly where Elektobit firmly sits with their proven capabilities; to then discuss the ‘should’ we do certain things. Such a big question with some of the capabilities of the software and AI within a vehicle. For all you enthusiasts in this space, this is an episode for you. 

Collaboration is in the DNA of Elektrobit and Maria’s motto for her organisation is ‘Our Software Moves the World’. In summary they want to create an enjoyable experience within the vehicle through their technology.

Episode Title:-  🇩🇪 Masters of Batteries🇩🇪

We continue the #HTAutomotiveSeries on Heads Talk with Dr Dirk Abendroth CEO Customcells. This was yet another insightful conversation. One of Dr. Abendroth's fascination is how one bridges the gap between people and technology. There he introduces Human Engineering into the conversation, so watch out for that in the full episode.
 
What I liked about this episode was the forensic nature of Dr. Abendroth’s answers; and as a result I gained an understanding of Customcells modus operandi. 
 
Dr. Abendroth emphasised the futility of calling a brand premium if recycling solutions were not optimised. Thus, sustainability is at the heart of what they do and collaboration runs through the veins of Customcells. 

Some facts about Dr. Abendroth: Prior to Customsells, he worked in a number of automotive or aviation related companies to include being the Executive Vice President for ByTon, with responsibilities  for powertrain and autonomous driving. He was the CTO of Automotive at Continental and Head of Powertrain BMWi at the BMW Group. 

In his most recent past in July 2021, he joined serial founder Lukasz Gadowski's international technology holding company Team Global as the CTO.

Episode Title:- 🇺🇸Environmental Sustainability Index - Smarter, Safer and Sustainable🇺🇸

In this week’s #HTAutomotiveSeries 2022 episode of  Heads Talk, I am joined by Evan Van Hook, Chief Sustainability Officer of Honeywell. We talked about the recent press release of the Environmental Sustainability Index. The index is the first quarterly indicator of key trends pertaining to global efforts in climate change mitigation and other sustainability initiatives.

A link to the full findings is in the comments section and the show note. In summary, the key takeaway from the index include: 

• 90% of respondents are generally optimistic about overall success with prior twelve-month goals across sustainability categories including energy evolution and efficiency, emissions reduction, pollution prevention and circularity/recycling.
• Forward-looking perceptions are less confident, with just 67% of respondents being optimistic about achieving goals for the coming twelve months.
• Only 63% are optimistic about achieving their goals by 2030, an anchor deadline year for numerous commitments. It was an interesting conversation and the purpose behind this initiative is to - as Evan explains - get behind the headlines and look at what’s really being done to meet the anchor deadline year of 2030 for ESG targets. 

Some facts about Evan: In 2022 he was named by Constellation Research as one of the world's 50 most influential executives in the field of ESG, and also to the American Energy Society's 500 Global Sustainability Thought Leaders. Prior to Honeywell, Evan was a partner at the law Firm Sidley Austin LLP and the Assistant Commissioner of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection. 

He sits on a number of Boards & has taught International Environmental Law at Columbia Law School, lectured at the United Nations ITR; and was a credentialed observer at the UNFCCC COP 23 and COP 24.

Elaine Pringle, Head of Fleet at Scottish Waters talked about the journey to CO2 neutral vehicles for her organisation's fleet. The conversation centred around procurement and organisational mindset change. We talked about the enormity of the task and Elaine provided some guidance and lessons learned for organisations that are about to embark on this transition. 

It was a lovely conversation getting to know Elaine and understanding her commitment to meeting the net zero target set. 

Full of great insights from Elaine and at the same time a little surreal for the both of us - we have never in our lifetime met another 'Elaine Pringle'.

#HTAutomotiveSeries 2022 on Heads Talk

We continue the new #HTAutomotiveSeries 2022 on Heads Talk with a fascinating conversation and a ‘food for thought’ outcome. This episode is more than what the title suggests. Yes, we discussed the concepts and developments around AVs, but after listening to the recording again, I realised this was an incredible conversation. 

With Florian minderop’s, CVO of MisterGreen insights on Autonomous vehicles and how this will affect the ecosystem around it, it got me thinking of how at least southern European countries will potentially seize this opportunity to source energy from its own shores using land once thought of as only arid and 'barren' yet hot and vast to generate the necessary energy required for a functioning society and beyond. Imagine how that will affect the economy of such countries. Fascinating indeed. 
 
 One of the things that I talked about with Florian was his decision to move from being the CEO of his organisation to being the CVO - Chief Vision Officer. This allowed him time and space for some blue-sky thinking and to hone in on their vision without the daily grind of management.
 
 As ownership of vehicles will be at stake here with the advent and full use of autonomous offerings - Robofleet being one, we looked at some of the impact on the players in this space; in particular the insurance companies and how their business model will have to change. So much information was gathered from this conversation and it allowed me to think about the ecosystem of the future. What a change this industry will undergo.

Sometimes on Heads Talk  I have a preliminary conversation with guests prior to the official recording. Here is one for you to listen to. This is a celebratory episode of Heads Talk  today.  I want to pay homage to an unshakeable leader that oozes inspiration. Such a fabulous conversation as we bid farewell to the 177th President of the Law Society of England and Wales. 

Ingrid Stephanie Boyce hands over the reins of the presidency in 2 days time, so I was absolutely delighted when she agreed to talk with Heads Talk about her tenure and plans for the future.

In the midst of my conversation with Stephanie and in the process understanding the journey she took, I lightheartedly called her actions ‘madness’ for her sheer tenacity. She is such a winner and an admirable one too. Thoroughly enjoyed the  discussion and embraced her personable nature, yet I observed how focused, self-assured and saturated with determination she was and is. One can easily bet that Stephanie’s next venture will be equally fruitful, opening many doors for others and providing a new refreshing perspective on practices, which will only ameliorate, enrich and dust off the cobwebs of the status quo. An episode to listen to time and time again if you need to hear the voice of someone who was once knocked back 4 times, but was not deterred, in fact when eventually the vote was Yes, she became the longest serving President of the Law Society England and Wales. Bravo Stephanie! You were the change we needed to see. 

Some Fact: Stephanie was admitted as a solicitor in 2002 & has a wealth of experience in corporate governance, regulatory frameworks and professional regulation. She wears many hats and has numerous titles to include Chair, Commissioner, Trustee, Board Member. 

Stephanie is an honorary professor of law at the Dickson Poon School of Law at Kings College London, and has received honorary Doctorates of Law from Keele University and University of East London.

In 2020 Stephanie was voted on to the Governance Hot 100 - Board Influencer and made the Power List 100 Most Influential Black People in the UK in 2021 and 2022
