Detox in Ayurvedic sense means simplifying our diet and shifting to fresh, regional produce. But it also means something more than just a diet improvement. Most importantly, I really encourage you to also detox from your devices and work (if possible) and really taking time for the things that you truly enjoy – cultivating Ayurvedic micro habits and practicing mindfulness and even if not, then attempting to practice it…

April is the month of cleansing! This year especially, not only for me, but for all us – the mother Earth is grounding us (literally!)

Today, I am going to continue a detox series with you, talking about cleansing – from both Yogic and Ayurvedic perspective: Why to do it? How to do it? What benefits can we expect?

I’ve just finished my Yogi Reset few days ago and definitely feel the perks of giving myself time and space to cleanse. Also, I truly believe in health-preventative powers that this kind of a cleanse brings us in the long run.

I am jumping in today with a very first #newmoonforecast in this podcast. We are going to discuss what this new moon is about according to the Vedic Astrology and do a breathing practice at the end of the episode to help you to tune in inward for this time of the month. 

The pranic healing is a true superpower of Ashwini. Therefore, the time of this new moon can be wonderfully utilized to practice pranayama and breath-oriented forms of movement that help you to go inward and observe the current flow within. It is a great time to clear away the blockages of energy by practicing conscious breathing. Therefore, in the yoga practice for this new moon, we are focusing mostly on that, opening the practice with breath of fire - Kapalabhati.

The practice is circa 15 minutes long and starts around 5th minute of this episode. I hope you’ll enjoy it! 

Our body is naturally detoxing every day and Ayurveda teaches us, how can to support it in this process.

This is where daily practices come into play! For cleansing up prana on the mental side, we have practices of yoga, pranayama and meditation and on side of our physiology, we have Ayurvedic concept of dinacharya – the daily routines that we pick up according to a season and your individual constitution.

However, no matter what dosha is dominating for you at the moment, we can all benefit from developing an awareness on how our everyday’s choices and micro-habits impact our health & well-being in the long run.

Closing the #TridoshaSeries by featuring Kapha – our support system! Because it consists out of water and earth, it is the most solid and dense of all doshas. It governs growth processes in the body and provides us with structure and nourishment. In fact, the Ayurvedic concept of immunity (Ojas) is a the subtle essence of Kapha dosha.

People with dominant Kapha in their Prakruti are the most loving, caring and literally, the sweetest people you’ll ever know! Conveying the feeling of warmth and safety & always holding space for others

Next dosha, please! Pitta – the governor of heat and transformation. As the only dosha, Pitta has a fire element in it, making it the most fierce and fiery one. Pittas are exceptional hard-workers and go-getters. The flame of passion and intelligence burns high for them.

Every week I am picking up a song that I think pictures the character of each dosha best. For Pitta, I took a song called "Fire" by Kasabian. Not so much for the lyrics, but because of its general tonality. It starts slowly, yet the refrain is literally FIRE. Energetic, rhythmic, passionate. Just like Pitta in a way – it can be inconspicuous or explode in the least expected moment.

Individuality is a hallmark of Ayurveda. Think of doshas as set of primary colors that nature picks up and combines in countless ways. Vata is its  manager of movement, Pitta is managing the transformation and Kapha is the structure engineer. They are here to work for us, present both in our body and mind, but they distribution may differ for each of us. Doshas are substances or biological energies found in nature. Gunas on the other hand are fundamental qualities of nature. If we zoom out and look at the Samkhya philosopy, something that is out there in Prakriti before the creation of elements even has started is the vibration of three elemental qualities called Sattva, Rajas and Tamas and these are the three gunas that we are going to take a closer look on in this episode.
