  • WISDOM FROM CLASSICAL TO MODERN DAY THINKERS FOR SELF-DISCOVERY

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within” your host Sheryl Glick

author of The Living Spirit which shares stories of spiritual awakening,
spiritual communication, healing energies and miracles in the search for
your intuitive soul wisdom and a sense of eternal knowingness is
delighted to welcome Raana Zia author of Your Hidden Light as she
combines her career in executive level leadership roles and her passion
and intense desire to discover her own purpose and potential for
    self-actualization.

As listeners of this show are well aware Sheryl and her guests share

intimate stories of awakening and insights into the Unseen world of
energy, and the Universal Laws in order to know that we are indeed more
than we appear to be and are not limited by any circumstance of the
physical world as long as we allow faith truth and love to inhabit our
thoughts actions and dreams for self-improvement.

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within” Raana Zia will share some of

her own thoughts and those of wisdom and truth from spiritual
visionaries Eckhart Tolle and Deepak Chopra to Aristotle and Gandhi,
from the Talmud to the Bible, and from the Buddha to Jesus, who all
showed us the relationship between the world inside you and the world
around you. We will discover that it is only by aligning your thoughts
emotions and beliefs to the truth of eternal life that you can create
    anything you truly desire.

Raana shares how her everyday life and success in business and as the

mother of two children she began to explore what really stimulated her
heart and soul awareness and helped her understand how to make her
thoughts and actions translate into what she really wished to explore
and be part of. She discovered that Conscious Creation is a Discipline
and a Daily Practice and why you need to start looking at your world
from the inside out. Your external world is not separate from you, but
directly connected to you. There is an energetic and spiritual force
that connects everything in the universe. It is this energy that
emanates from inside of you that molds and shapes the universe around
you. More concisely it is the energy of your thoughts beliefs feelings
and words that create all of your external experiences. When you begin
to internalize that everything outside of you is a reflection of what is
inside you, your reality becomes your feedback mechanism. You decide
what needs to change by changing yourself. You become the master of your
    reality.

The importance of being aware of your own thought patterns and learning

the difference between your unconscious negative thought patterns and
your positive conscious thinking is fundamental in order to consciously
create positive things in your life. Bringing awareness to your thinking
by asking yourself—What am I thinking now? Are these thoughts serving
me—will help you become familiar with your thought patterns. If your
thoughts don’t serve you then you need to stop thinking those thoughts.
Thought control is a critical muscle you need to build to most
    effectively create your positive desires.

The resources to help you stay on your path of spiritual awareness are

more accessible than ever. Changing your life externally by first
changing your world internally will initially feel unnatural because we
have been conditioned from the outside world and the expectations
opinions and beliefs of those around us. Therefore it is important to
develop a daily practice that allows you to become more connected to
yourself and your spiritual nature. Meditation is the most powerful
practice. Today there are so many resources available to guide you and
help you discover your truest most powerful self and what practice works
    for you.

Your Hidden Light is meant to be for readers to see how our earlier

background helps us to recognize the truth of this inner soul knowing
beyond any of the belief systems we may have been taught as children.
Born with an internal wisdom or soul knowing we intuitively know what we
gravitate towards and resonant with but this kind of awareness is often
not respected or encouraged by parents teachers and social systems. The
book is meant to be a simple handbook that directly synthesizes the
“how, what, why,” that is related to the power we all have to create our
reality. This book is a reflection of the many years of research
application and personal self journey to find the authors soul being to
evolve her career and greatly enhance her material life. Raana has
learned that spirituality did not mean giving up material things but
that everything in the material world is created by what we cannot see
but what is energetic in nature.

Raana grew up in what is considered a normal upper middle class family

in Massachusetts the daughter of Indian Muslim immigrants who came to
this country in the 1960’s. Her father is a retired corporate executive
from the technology industry and mother is an author and retired
elementary school teacher. She has an older brother. Raana was expected
to do well in school and she did. She got into a professional job in
finance after college. As her career advanced and not sure of what she
really wanted she started to explore self help books but steered clear
of spiritual books as she was working on her material world goals. Soon
she wanted to understand the truth of who she was and how the world
worked and that pointed to the spiritual world: the unknown, the unseen
and she finally began to wake up. Sheryl says that her journey was
similar. She followed the plan directed by society and family but came
to know that her own internal guidance system knew that for her
happiness and state of well being she had to know herself on a soul or
energetic/eternal life force. Through her own experiences she came to
the truth that the more she experienced herself creating her reality,
the more committed she became to making inner changes in attitude and in
understanding her internal compass to minimize suffering and create
    something new to serve her.

Knowing how the spiritual world of energy and eternal life work came to

make her know that all religions her childhood Muslim religion and
practices and all other religions all sought the same answers to
questions about how to live life consciously in alignment to the
universal truths of goodness love and compassion. When you realize who
you are and the Source of Creation and of life, you may come to realize
all religions seek the answer to knowing ourselves as energy beings or
souls and often Spirituality or an understanding of the
interconnectedness of all life forms moves us beyond structured
religious belief system as often these belief separate us from the fact
that life is not random at all and we are never alone. We are energy
beings or souls connected to eternal source of creation and each other.
Suffering is often a state of mind we fall into because we have been
disconnected from our natural state of being which is happiness health
    positivity and love.

Raana wrote, “However many people think of materiality and spirituality

as separate distinct things they really are not. However, spirituality
is in fact the creating principle of anything physical. Spirituality as
I refer to it is not meant to be religious in context, but a belief in
what is beyond the observable and physical reality. It is the belief in
the Ultimate Creative force of the Universe. Within the spiritual realm
there are energies and powers that exist which are beyond what we see in
the physical world. You have access to powers beyond the physical realm
and these powers lie within you because you are a spiritual being.”

Raana gives many quotes in the book but Sheryl selected these to share:

We do not see things as they are. We see them as we are.” From The

    Talmud

What you think you become. What you feel you attract. What you imagine

    you create.”

The quotes seem so simple but for many are hard to appreciate or

implement into their daily life so they can make living and loving
easier. We can begin to make these thoughts into our work and home life
making life more productive and fun. Raana personally realized that she
was spending seventy percent of her life working and the majority of
that time was full of frustration and unease. She knew to be happy her
work life had to change. The birth of her first child was the catalyst
for the desired change. Suddenly she had to prioritize tasks that would
work and those tasks that she would let go of and most importantly she
had to trust the resources she needed to succeed in both her work and
home life. Nothing external was the reason or cause for this change. The
company and people around her didn’t change but she changed and relaxed
and then the world relaxed…She allowed accepted and surrendered to what
was best for her and others, and life proceeded to happen without
pushing pulling or exacerbating the process. Most people do not realize
they can create the life they want in the way they want it. They do not
know they can choose something different by making and committing to a
    different choice.

Sheryl says to Raana that she also has learned that fear denial and

false beliefs absorbed in societal training or childhood traumas where
loss of trust in oneself and others led many to believe that they are in
control of other people’s thinking and experiences. A sense of
entitlement or arrogance and a failure to know there is a divine plan
for their personal evolution and that of humanities leads to resistance
and a loss of opportunity for creating our best lives.

Raana has a quote that states “As Above so below, as within so without,

as the universe so the soul. :by Hermes Trismegistus Sheryl has often
pondered this thought and we go on to talk about how when you learn how
to consciously create a positive thought with an aligned feeling and
belief, you can change any negative circumstance to the positive. The
good news is that all thoughts feelings and beliefs can be changed and
only you have the power to change what is inside of you.

Oftentimes you do not know you are energetically negating your desires,

but you are. Similarly, when things seem to work out for you with
minimal effort it is because internally you are in complete energetic
alignment. This alignment connects with all that is unseen to bring into
your physical reality that which you desire.

So in essence we are constantly in connection to that unseen force of

creation and oneness and when in synch or not opposing our best interest
    all flows easily.

The Mirror Effect is an important concept to become aware of for as we

begin to see our external world as our mirror we see our reality as a
reflection of our dominant thoughts feelings and beliefs. The people we
interact with and our circumstances are reflections of what’s inside
you—what you believe about others and yourself. When you look at reality
this way you will realize you cannot change your reflection by changing
the mirror. Your reflection does not change until you change.

When your core being knows the circumstance of an event or change is

actually an opportunity, message, or catalyst for the positive change
you desire, you will come to follow your inner guidance. There is much
more power in knowing you create your reality and there is less
suffering because nothing outside of yourself is to blame.

Sheryl says….In her book The Living Spirit she expressed the idea that

our thoughts and actions are creating our success or lack of it and
wrote, “Spirit allows us to face challenging situations that our energy
(emotions and thoughts) bring into our lives and helps us to see if we
are on the right or wrong track. Therefore we are co-creating our life
by observing what is happening and by seeing how to make the best of any
situation. Through our faith and the surrender of some of our personal
needs, we allow the universe and a higher source to help us find new
ways to search and remember our already preconceived destiny and life
plan. Nothing is random and all is meaningful if we simply pay
    attention.”

The question all spiritual seekers begin to ask at some point Is Who Are

You ? Eckhart Tolle wrote, “ I cannot tell you of any spiritual truth
that deep within you don’t know already. All I can do is remind you of
    what you have forgotten.”

So what have we forgotten? We have forgotten the key to creating a life

you truly desire lies in understanding who you really are and how your
world works…Erroneously we have been conditioned to believe that we are
separate from everyone and everything in our lives including the
    Ultimate Creator of the Universe.

“We have forgotten that we are not only our physical self. We are not

only our body mind and personality or what I call your ego-self but our
true self is a part of essence that is deep within you. It is your
higher self, your soul self, or your spiritual-self and it is the part
of you that is Divine. This is the part of you that is your Divine Light
and which holds your greatest powers. Your physical ego-self is your
mortal self. It sees itself as separate from everyone and everything. It
lives in a world of fear and the biggest being the fear of death. It is
the part of you that holds you back from becoming who you are meant to
    be.

Your physical ego-self relies on the five senses to understand

experiences in the world. Your spiritual sense of intuition is a sixth
sense and gives you information guidance a sense of knowing from your
    inner divine soul.

Therefore Jesus said…”The Kingdom of God is Within You.”

Socrates wrote “All souls are immortal but the souls of the righteous

    are immortal and divine

    How beautiful I think..

The Divine part of you is immortal. Cosmic Consciousness is eternal,

forever creating and expressing. You are here to express and aspect of
Cosmic Consciousness..We are all distinct yet we are one. Your current
life experience in your physical body is but one expression of your
infinite nature. There is no death for the soul. All you fear is in your
ego-self. Your ego can and will die. Everything you fear comes from your
    ego self.”

There is a difference between conscious thinking and thinking

incorrectly. Most people think they already know how to think because
thinking is something we do automatically. However, by thinking
everything in the world is separate from you and outside of you been
thinking incorrectly. This is “Unconscious Thinking.” By being
unconscious that your thoughts create you may be struggling to achieve
something and fear and anxiety through incorrect thinking make it
impossible to happen. A mastery of thinking is necessary to improve your
life, produce results, and create what you want, but this requires
    knowledge discipline and practice.

Thoughts become things. If you see it in your mind you will hold it in

    your hands. Bob Proctor

We can complain resist or blame others but actually, everything,

especially those negative responses are a choice…everything is a choice.
Please tell us how we can recognize that what we may be focusing on may
be a poor choice, and when new choices are inserted into our thinking
    life changes.

The world you live in is made up of infinite possibilities and in every

moment you are making a choice as to what to think feel speak or do. The
decisions you make are what create your experiences. You can either
create new things by new choices or experience the same things by making
the same choice as before. Life presents us with things we like or do
not like, and things we perceive as positive or negative. We have the
power to choose that which is positive and serves us best and creating
harmony balance prosperity health and good -will in our lives or
disengage from people places ideas or events that feel unnatural or
uncomfortable for us, but, often we must move past fear and other
people’s expectations to think about what really is best for ourselves
    and possibly for others.

Raana Zia has shared her awakening process through an honest and

truthful approach to discussing Conscious Creation moving us past
unconscious thinking and ego based fear constraints, so we may know
ourselves as spiritual beings who have an infinite abundant source of
intelligence and wisdom within. When this inner sense is awakened we
access and appreciate life and live life according to our own destiny.

In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing From Within” we have

discussed how to reclaim and remember much of who we are and have always
been as part of a Unified Universe of infinite energy and potential and
as spiritual beings having a physical ego-based human life perhaps to
help us remember our true self and to move us merely beyond sensory
experiences to discover the intuitive wisdom within that helps us make
informed choices that manifest into the life style that suits our human
journey. Our thoughts and actions determine how it all goes and being
observant of our needs and soul efforts will lead us forward, past fear
denial blame and any other negative emotion that thwarts our progress
and our spiritual and physical growth. The Choice is always ours!

Raana wrote, “Human beings are dual in nature. We have good parts of us

and bad parts of us. We are both positive and negative. Every atom that
makes up our body has both a positive and negative charge. We cannot
deny our duality as it is part of our nature and part of the world we
live in. Without having both positive and negative sides to us we would
not be able to recognize and experience positive and negative outside of
us…..without our dual nature we could never really know who we truly
are. We are both physical and spiritual, seen and useen, mortal and
immortal, limited and unlimited. You cannot experience your true Divine
Self without the presence of your mortal self. In a dualistic world it
is the power of choice that created who you are and the reality you
    live.”

Raana and I would like you to know…. May the choice be with you, or as

it was said in the Star Wars movies, May the force be with you…It is all
the same thought, a thought of energy and creation—beyond fear doubt and
limitation lie your ability to create all that is.

  • HEALTH DURING AND BEYOND MENOPAUSE

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within” your host Sheryl Glick

author of The Living Spirit Answers for Healing and Infinite Love
welcomes Sally J. Duffell author of Grow Your Own HRT who suggests if
you are a woman of a certain age and feeling menopausal you might want
to forget expensive hormone replacement therapy and consider growing
    your own HRT.

Sally joins us today to discuss remedies for a natural transition from

childbearing years to menopause which can be more symptom and anxiety
free if thought of with right thinking and understanding the natural
    process.

Listeners of “Healing From Within” are well aware that Sheryl and her

guests share intimate experiences and new insights into moving past
duality or separation to know our combined spiritual and physical life
issues so we may improve the quality of health prosperity and life in
    general, utilizing inner wisdom.

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within” we will receive excellent

simplified instructions on how to grow hormone rich plants in just
minutes a day and learn more about the many plant foods that heal and
sustain our well being. Duffell also explains how to self diagnose, how
much to take and which sprouts to grow for the symptoms you may or may
not have, as a result of the changing hormonal structure of your body.
Plus the book also contains studies on how sprouted foods can help with
menopause symptoms cancer heart disease osteoporosis diabetes and
    autism.

Sally responds to Sheryl’s question which asks her to think back to her

childhood and remember a person place or event that may have made an
impression on them and may have guided them to find their life work or
adult interests. Sally shares how as a sensitive and somewhat lonely
child she had an imaginary friend in Spirit and like all sensitive
soulful children have a hard time understanding the harshness of a
physical world with so much suffering pain and less compassion and love
than perhaps they may intuitively remember from their time before being
    born.

Sally tells us why would we should choose to grow our own HRT and why

Western Women seem to have a bad time during menopause more so than
women from Eastern cultures . What we should know is that we all evolved
eating plant hormones and lots of illnesses have only become common
since we stopped. Instead of buying supplements and taking drugs we can
all grow them again ourselves. We can all harvest the benefits. No one
has a financial interest in getting women to grow their own plant
hormones—not the HRT industry not the supplement makers, not the soya
marketers. It is simple to grow your own HRT even in a small space and
    you don’t need a garden.

Many books say that menopause happens when the number of eggs we have is

so love that the ovaries can’t respond when our brain hormones what’s
known as the hypothalamus, pituitary axis or HPA tell them it’s time to
hatch. Jenni Murray in her book Is it Me of Is it Hot in Here says, “As
the supply of eggs in the ovaries dwindles the pituitary gland
recognizes what’s happening and frantically increases the production of
FSH in an attempt to kick-start the reproductive system as normal. As
things progress other symptoms such as flushes and sweats begin.

What gynecologist John Lee MD says in his book What Your Doctor May Not

Tell You about Menopause is even more dramatic. It’s not just hot
flushes and night sweats but perhaps mood swings fatigue feelings of
being cold and inappropriate responses to other stressors. When our
period stops altogether we can have dry skin sagging libido and are more
prone to osteoporosis cancer heart problems and dementia. Now this
doesn’t happen to all women. There are lots of women who don’t get
menopausal symptoms and Chinese women who don’t even have a word for
menopause. We need to find out what is happening in the body of women
like Eskimo women and Native American women and many Asian who menopause
    without symptoms.

There are two ways to menopause and almost nobody mentions the second

one. In 1996 Robert Wilson published his book Feminine Forever and
stated that all menopausal women needed to take Hormone Replacement
Therapy (HRT) but even so not everyone believed him. However Wilson was
focused on the women who came to him because they were feeling ill. He
failed to notice all the women who were going through this natural
transformation and were doing fine. Where the HPA axis in some women
stopped producing hormones before the ovaries slow down production of
estrogen side effects were minimal. Menopausal symptoms only happen when
the ovaries fail before the hormones produced in the brain have decided
it’s time to stop. The only true menopause symptom is erratic periods as
    hormones slowly rebalance themselves.

So given the right circumstances it seems that ovaries can go on for as

long as we need them and even after menopause we so still need them. A
healthy postmenopausal ovary still creates lots of hormones for us.
Studies show that removal of ovaries with hysterectomies is associated
with higher risks of coronary artery disease stroke hip fractures
Parkinson’s dementia cognitive impairment depression and anxiety.

Robert Wilson thought estrogen replacement was a cure to what he

considered the disease of menopause and it took a while to establish the
link between the estrogen therapy and cancer, but by then menopause was
seen by doctors as a disease and HRT was touted as the cure. Meanwhile
the backlash led by the feminist movement went to the other extreme.
They pronounced menopausal symptoms to be a natural phenomenon and
Germaine Greer in her book The Change said that many women don’t go to
the doctor for their menopause symptoms because of “their attitude to
doctors and their coping style rather than to the extent to which they
    experience symptoms.

Meanwhile both sides were correct. There were some symptoms and some

women have a natural menopause during which their ovaries keep working
until the end with no symptoms. There is yet to be a specific study
comparing the two models of menopause: the gentle wind-down versus the
premature ovarian failure…Getting the ovaries working as long as
possible is what women in traditional societies seem able to do.

It also seems the Western Diet is very different from Eastern Health

directives and that may be a reason for many reactions in the body.

It was found by researcher Margaret Lock who studied Japanese women who

lacked a specific word for menopause and the symptoms to go with it, as
well as traditional Thai and Chinese women who enjoyed trouble free
menopause, and speculated that the Asian diet of vegetables seaweed fish
and soya was giving them a rich mix of vitamins minerals trace elements
and plant estrogen. She also learned that these women lived in
multi-dimensional households where the elderly are highly respected and
wondered if this was not also a factor for aging gracefully. The women
also took regular weight bearing exercise and there was a tradition of
herbalism. Soya soon became the Eastern Wonder Food and the soya
revolution in the WEST was underway

How we are slowly learning what plant hormones and other phyto-chemicals

can do for us. We know that cress and mustard contain lignans for plant
estrogen as well as being rich in plant progesterone and cancer fighting
compounds. Cress is not the only place we used to get plant hormones
from. Western women get plant estrogen from lignans found in whole
grains beans berries nuts and seeds and especially flaxseed known as
linseed. Women who ate a lot of lignans had reduced risks of all kinds
of postmenopausal breast cancer. Asian cultures were sprinkling plant
hormones in the form of alfalfa sprouts while those in Britain were
getting the same from mustard and cress Western folk medicine uses red
clover as herbal medicine for menopause symptoms packed with plant
hormones…We found in a study by Dr. Andrew F. Currier in 1897 that
peasants in Scandinavia Germany and Russia did not complain of symptoms
from menopause When the Japanese started living off processed foods,
pizza pasta they would have developed menopause symptoms and diseases of
    aging.

The most obvious thing that can go wrong if we don’t ovulate is

progesterone level will be low and without progesterone there is nothing
to clear out estrogen from our systems or tell our womb lining when to
shed so it just keeps building up. If we consistently fail to ovulate we
will become estrogen dominate and too much estrogen can lead to cell
growth in our reproductive areas and endometriosis build up of womb
tissue, fibroids lumpy tissue attached to the womb fibrocystic breasts
of course infertility. In the long term lack of ovulation is also
associated with osteoporosis heart disease and several cancers breast
    endometrial and thyroid.

There are three main kinds of estrogen: estriol estradiol and estrione.

Estradiol is produced by women in their fertile years and is the
strongest. Estrone is in the middle coming in at a third to two thirds
as strong. Estriol is the weakest at about an eight as strong. Estriol
is the predominant estrogen is older women. It is gentle and less likely
to cause cancer. However the good news is that the body has a natural
ability to convert all the different estrogens to each other. This is a
    marvelous tool for hormonal balance

So what is it about the Western World and lifestyle that is upsetting

hormonal balance that a 2015 Norwegian research project reported that a
third of women were not ovulating.

Stress is one factor that affects ovulation by depleting the adrenal

glands. Blood sugar becomes unstable. Digestion goes awry so nutrients
aren’t being absorbed and progesterone production drops. This leads to
estrogen dominance which is unhealthy. The World Health Organization and
those employed by the industrial and chemical industries which add to
the problem for women are at odds and their agendas foster making money
not health. Clearly women who don’t have symptoms should not be put on
HRT as they are creating hormones on their own. If you do go on HRT you
will be advised to come off it before age 60 because risk factors
increase sharply after that. Some doctors unofficially and officially
recommend plant hormones after that if women still have symptoms of
    discomfort.

Sally tells us something of bean and seed sprouting and how to begin. So

plants have hormones When we eat certain plants and beans our body
creates plant estrogen and progesterone Your own gut bacteria use the
isoflavones and lignans and coumestrol and convert them into hormones.
Plant estrogen is much weaker than that created by our ovaries. The
Greek name for plant estrogenes is phytoestrogens and they fight off
those industrial and chemical estrogens and keep our body healthy

Sprouts that contain kaempferol as well as red clover are alfalfa

mustard c ress and broccoli. As they have some plant estrogens they
really ae your complete hormonal package.Fenugreek not only has
kaempferol but it’s high in apigenin. Apigenin is getting a lot of
attention from scientists as it has been shown to stop cancer cells from
spreading and in fact tells them to die.

We need to eat brassicas which contain a whole host of the most

wonderful vitamins minerals and antioixidants including cancer fighting
chemicals. Brassica vegetables are often called cruciferous vegetables
and include bok choy, Brussels sprouts, mustard greens, cresses
cauliflower kale cabbage Chinese cabbage collard greens horseradish
cohlrabi radish rutabaga turnip and watercress. Sadly not all brassicas
lend themselves to being sprouted. If you are wondering why sprouts are
amazing it’s because they are baby plant and are at the peak of
nutrition. Another food that sprouting can rapidly turn into a
powerhouse of nutrients is legumes or pluses consisting of beans peas
and lentils. We need to get these pulses back into our diets. We can
also add Asian sprout mung beans. Its plant cousin good old alfalfa sold
in health stores has some very interesting beneficial phytochemicals.
Don’t forget mustard and cress. And finally there’s fenugreek to boost
    testosterone.. also necessary for women.

The bottom line is we are trying to keep our ovaries working Eating

sprouted foods can help us transition through menopause without
    symptoms.

Menopause symptoms are not the first health problems to be exacerbated

by bad diet. One of the most famous is scurvy . It was so rampant during
the eighteenth century it causes more deaths at sea than other diseases
storms shipwrecks and even war. We now know that scurvy was caused by
lack of fresh fruit and greens which contain vitamin C. Some maritime
surgeons and herbalists did use berries vegetables and cresses as a cure
but had to do it under the radar orthodox physicians had different
ideas. They concluded scurvy was caused by laziness foul vapors and
dampness to blocked perspiration and divine disfavor. They concluded
sailors needed flogging or bleeding…none of which worked. Similarly
menopausal women used to be accused of being depressed of being afraid
of aging or so spoilt that they had nothing better to do than make up
symptoms. Once HRT was invented and big money was involved menopause
officially became a disease. Sally and Sheryl are amazed at how the
medical professional in the past and even now look past simple
explanations such as diet exercise the body’s need for relaxation and
reducing stress to improve most health situations and often allow the
body to self-heal or by preventive methods decrease illness greatly.

Sally mentions plant hormones in relation to prevention of other

diseases such as cancer osteoporosis dementia and heart disease? We can
assume the medical practitioners are not offering these suggestions and
probably do not know enough about supplements other than traditional
    Western medical treatments..medication and surgery.

Sheryl says…You can go back to a misunderstanding by physicians in

regard to scurvy and other illnesses when not enough is known about the
pre-existing life style, diet, exercise practices or lack of exercise,
along with the stress factors and genetic predispositions of a patient,
we cannot conclude it is simply emotional.

Sally tells the story of her friend who had a successful response to the

use of HRT practices. Kate Tyms a forty eight year old mother of three
teenage girls generally fit and healthy suffered period wise from PMT
which worsened as she got older and she experienced a great deal of
sweating. Her periods were heavy on day 1-2 and then petered out. The
routine she followed that seemed to help 1. Ground up some flaxseed and
sprinkle on muesli every morning. 2. Sprout things..red clover mung
beans and broccoli and sprinkle on whatever I am eating. 3 Avocados 4 No
parabens 5 Banana bread to keep off processed sugars. 6 Using Aveeno
instead of Nivea body lotion. As diet included more muesli and flaxseed
    and nuts symptoms improved

Sally J. Duffel an expert in an area that is attempting to offer natural

solutions to many of the complex health issues that modern society is
dealing with by offering changing thoughts on the issues surrounding
    menopause and other conditions. .

In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing From Within” we have seen

that by understanding that the body is a complex mechanism of biologic
hormonal and energetic influences and by returning to the simple dietary
routines of the past or alternative methods known before Western
medicine concluded that disease can only be cured or managed by drugs or
surgery we might move past the debilitating symptoms of many illnesses
that have developed as a result of the Industrial Age. We might remember
how scurvy was handled by people like James Lind in 1753 when he
promoted his lemon cure. He also discussed at that time sprouting
mustard and cresses so that ships companies could grow their own salad
cress aboard ships and keep their sailors from developing scurvy.
Sprouting is a part of a long European food culture and it’s helped keep
us healthy for generations. But we must return to essential truths that
our fundamental needs as human beings involve good nutrition, plenty of
    rest and basic hygiene.

Sally wrote, “ That is the story of menopause too. We industrialized. We

stopped eating whole foods. We processed and refined foods. We tried to
bring them back through artificial ways, through drugs and supplements.
And now we are faced with the fact that we need ways of getting whole
foods back into our diets. Human beings are so clever in what we can
achieve and so stupid in that we keep forgetting the fundamentals. It’s
not too late to go back to it all….We can borrow from all the different
traditions. We can copy the Chinese and sprout mung beans or alfalfa. We
can look to folk medicine and grow red clover mustards and cresses…We
need to make up for the deficiencies in our diets.”

Sally and I would have you remember that within a sense of ancient inner

wisdom and within our bodies we have the ability to self-heal: we must
allow ourselves to improve our thinking about how to care for ourselves
utilizing the best of herbal alternative and modern day western medicine
to find healthy simple ways to live well.

  • LEARNING HOW NOT TO FREAK OUT: FINDING PEACE

In today’s episode of “Healing From Within” your host Sheryl Glick

author of The Living Spirit which shares stories of awakening, spiritual
communication, healing energies, miracles, and ways to access your
intuition and higher Self is delighted to welcome Dean Sluyter author of
his newest book Fear Less a seasoned spiritual teacher and leader in the
metaphysical field and whether he discusses the Buddha, Willie Nelson,
from prison stories to The Wizard of Oz we find our way to understand
ourselves and discover who we are and what life can really be when we
learn to accept all move past worry and fear to just BE.

As listeners of “Healing From Within” have come to discover over time,

Sheryl and her guests share amazing insights coincidences synchronicity
and discover through self-awareness how to master emotions thoughts and
access inner wisdom to create our best lives, truly moving past fear
societal training rigid childhood patterns to find the breathe and
openness of mind body and spirit for truth and happiness.

In today’s episode of Healing From Within Dean Sluyter who has written

many books including The Zen Commandments, Natural Meditation, and
Cinema Nirvana: Enlightenment Lessons from the Movies has taught natural
methods of meditation since 1970 from Ivy League Colleges to
maximum-security prisons and shares his life’s passion and love of
meditation, Aikido, nature, and offers techniques to find a road to
acceptance and peace, as we begin to live within the truth of our soul’s
creative expression and to shine light wherever we go. We will learn to
realize how to know and utilize fear to eliminate useless worrying and
focus on life unfolding as it must according to a larger plan than we
    often allow ourselves to contemplate.

Dean shares a story of when he was only twelve years old and had a

transcendent moment of letting go of fear and knowing he was alright no
matter what. Sheryl likes the story he shares when he began to be aware
of how we all were similar different and still unique.

Dean wrote, “ I was the skinny uncoordinated kid: the spaz in the fifth

grade playground lingo of the day. The only game I was good at was
dodgeball—not hurling the ball at others but jumping out of its way.
That made perfect sense to me. In the classroom, I had no fear. I
cheerfully took over discussions and enjoying a chummy tete-a tete with
the teacher only dimly aware of the restless fidgeting going on all
around me. Eventually I noticed big Chuck trying for once to be small so
a history question might not be shot at him threatening as much danger
and humiliation as a softball did for me. Different people, different
situations, same feeling. Interesting. The Cold War was on. In social
studied we watched black-white propaganda films about communism and from
time to time in the middle of math or geography lesson the teacher would
suddenly yell, “Drop” and we’d fall to our knees and duck under our
desks expecting a commie A-bomb to fall.

Now we’re grown- ups. Terrorists have replaced Communists and we have

graduated from the playground to other grounds for fear: the office the
boardroom the bedroom the barroom and the newsroom. The last
presidential election was fueled by fear and so were the ones since 9/11
and it’s been a white knuckle ride ever since, with spiking anxiety
levels reported by psychologists nationwide. The political is personal.”

Sheryl says that it seems we are looking for leaders and a government to

wipe away all the problems but the world cannot change till each of us
changes within and becomes the change we wish to bring into the world.
We all must accept responsibility for many of the problems our nation
and the world finds itself in at this moment in time and must move pass
the negative rhetoric to work cooperatively to bring about the changes
that are needed. We must move pass limiting ourselves to the ideas of
political ideology and find our humanness creating a community of
humanists. Ideas opinions beliefs change with time, but human goodness
    never does.

She continues…The fascination with the political division is heightened

these days as a result of social media and reality television which only
highlights fear and the way people want to hold on to their own life,
resources and lifestyle, afraid of change which must come and threaten
life as they know it. This illusionary vision only threatens
opportunities to recognize that we are more than our physical life.
Compassion and love will surface no matter how hard some fight to
realize their own personal agenda. Let’s be clear about the fear that
has been generated in the political schemes by divided parties, by poor
leadership and policies corrupt politicians and business increasing
migration depletion of natural resources emerging nations seeking
greater power and restriction of human rights along with pure
selfishness greed narcissism and unhealthy parenting as real reasons for
real concern…and a needed remembrance of moral concerns, important
values and CHANGE that when right will benefit All.

Dean writes, “But no matter who’s elected today or impeached tomorrow

our deepest fears persist personally in our own daily life situations.
It is when we work individually on self improvement and awareness that
the world will improve. Fear of pain fear of confusion fear of change
fear that things will never change, that this is all there is, fear of
responsibility fear of aging and illness fear of loss, bereavement,
abandonment fear that the good times are over that joy has fled, fear of
boredom, loneliness, intimacy violation fear of failure, rejection
humiliation fear of other’s opinions, of our own feelings, of being
fooled, of blowing it onstage, of being exposed as a bewildered child
among the confident adults. Fear for the planet. We look to the world
our children will inherit and wonder if it will be The Jetsons or Mad
Max. Fear of missing out. Our fears may be rooted in big traumas
haunting the past or big challenges looming in the future, but they cast
their shadow over the smallest moments of everyday life right now.”
Sheryl says when she sees the MS 13 gang members she feels like she is
living in the world of Mad Max. What happens when we are not quite sure
of what to be afraid of, but are afraid anyway? “When we are not sure
what to be afraid of which threat to dodge next and what direction it
will come from our fear mutates into free-floating anxiety. To soothe
our anxiety we might fall into addiction, taking refuge in a drug or
drinking or in compulsive eating or gambling or gaming or hoarding or
sex or in cutting or starving ourselves or in magical belief systems or
bogus political messiahs –anything that offers to gimme shelter when I
feel like I am going to fade away. But that sets off new fears that
we’ll run out of Oreos or drugs or the girlfriend or boyfriend will run
out on us and then we lash out in anger at whoever or whatever threatens
our alleged security. These and other afflictive emotions—grief
loneliness, guilt, jealousy confusion shame disappointment resentment
greed self-righteousness despair are all deeply connected.
Of course if you’re lucky and paying attention life offers any number of
joys and wonders which help us sidestep the most destructive habits and
scenarios. But still the fear of eventual annihilation and that of
everything and everyone you love and the thought that all this must end
    lingers close by.”

Sheryl suggests that we have all know people, even children and some of

us have become those people who seem to have some deep wisdom, some
internal compass that keeps them balanced and do not succumb to the fear
There are events and movies or literature that share the dynamic of
people finding their deep resolve and love for live in its highest
aspects and motivations for being courageous and that creates a state of
being that reflects resilience and trust. Sheryl thinks of the movie
“Braveheart” where the Irish peasant fought for freedom and love against
all odds as he knew himself to be an honorable man working for the good
of his people and believed in a collective reality of hope.

Dean wrote, “They may look different and not exactly what sages might

look like but we are sure they are not racked with anxiety. They’re not
caught up in anger or overwhelmed by fear even fear of death. No matter
what difficulty or life threatening event every breath from a deep
reservoir of silence courage trust and love sustain them. But these
people declare that as they are, we can and will be, and that the
silence or kingdom of heaven is within us now. If we reflect back on our
lives—the joys, the challenges the lonely moments we might even sense
that the silence and peace has been with us, within us all along. We may
have been looking for the right things but in the wrong places looking
outside for what is inside. It’s just a matter of settling back into
yourself in the infinite OK-ness that is your deepest nature.”

Sheryl says this state of being at peace with oneself and the world

comes when one accepts, allows, and surrenders to life as it is, and as
we create it with our thoughts and actions in each and every moment. We
do have the ability to change ourselves therefore changing the outside
world, but first we must know ourselves as the eternal soul being that
we are and learn to accept our human and divine needs without fear or
judgment. What is right for us to explore is our own nature and the
nature of the physical world so we may begin to remember our soul
existence then move past human fear to divine states of knowingness and
    love.

Dean suggests there is a “Waking” up and a way to learn to look and

experience peace and freedom from fear and accessing that space of
freedom is easier than people think. You don’t have to change your job
or your wardrobe your philosophy or your diet those matters are all far
more superficial than what is needed. No one owns the zone so it’s not
inherently Eastern or Western, Buddhist or Christian or even “spiritual.
” My favorite saying of the Buddha is Ehi-passiko—Come and see. Not come
and believe, or come and hope, or speculate or argue. Try something see
what you experience and if it seems beneficial you’ll probably want to
do more of it. The sages who have come and seen didn’t live only in
ancient times. They live now and what they share is Practice and View.

Dean feels the core practice, the one that has revolutionized his life

is natural—meditation. If you try to meditate it’s well like trying. But
as we’ve already seen the zone of great freedom sneaks up on us so the
most natural and effective kind of meditation is not so much doing as
being. We stay right where we are with the windows of our consciousness
    wide open.

Along with meditation as our core practice the other component of

awakening is “View”. View is not mere opinion or idea. As the word
implies, it’s seeing—seeing clearly so that we perceive the reality
that’s right in front of us but which was previously obscured by
    confused ideas.

In the Bhagavad Gita India’s classic text of meditation and action it is

said, “ Even a little of this practice delivers from great fear.” If,
after a little practice you fear less—even one percent less than
before—then you’re already coming out of the darkness and into the
light. You’ve made it through the worst and more light awaits you.

Dean shares a Breathing through Fear exercise. Breathing is a tool that

may support you and move you from fear to faith. Begin by breathing
through your feet. Now as you breathe normally you also imagine and feel
that you’re breathing in through the soles of your feet. Do it and after
you may realize that you feel a little less stuck in the head to the
buzzing of thoughts and feeling. You are more grounded centered or
refreshed. There are many exercises to release tension and stress and a
continued practice in meditation deep breathing visualizations music and
simply enjoying each moment are the way forward to a more peaceful way
    of life beyond fear.

Dean mentions his martial art Aikido teacher Rick Stickles who helped

him realize the importance of Relaxing at the moment of Contact. “When
we realize when we are tightening up and how that limits your awareness
and response to what’s going on you can begin to see that if you’re
caught up in anxiety about the impression you are making in your job
interview, you may not see the warm smile and the gracious comments that
the interviewer is making to signal you’re doing fine. Being loose
doesn’t mean being sloppy or undisciplined. It means open enough to be
sensitive and responsive and act in the moment when you have to move
faster than you think. You can see this in performers. Cary Grant had
this sense of knowing and said that working with Grace Kelly who was one
of the best actresses ever as she was total relaxation, absolute
    ease—she was totally there.”

Anything you can do, you can do better from that place of fluidity and

ease. The change is not only attitudinal but neurological. We are
retraining our nervous system to process experiences in a more cooled
out way so that it doesn’t interpret every moment of contact with a
    fight or flight response.

Practicing for a test where Dean had to repel three opponents as the

first opponent attacked he couldn’t budge him until his teacher called
out “ Relax at the moment of contact!” Dean was too busy tensing up to
even realize it. No longer frozen in his own rigidity his shoulders
going soft and energy from his upper body going into his hips he threw
his attacker over with fluid ease. Relax at the moment of contact in
every fearful situations into a zone of confidence will provide the best
    results.”

We go on to talk about worry and does it really ever help? Dean talks

about Steven Spielberg’s 2015 Cold War thriller “Bridge of Spies” where
a lawyer played by Tom Hanks says to the Russian Spy I have a mandate to
serve you. Nobody else does. Quite frankly, everybody else has an
interest in sending you to the electric chair The Russian spy says; All
right. Donovan the lawyer then says to the Russian, “ You don’t seem
alarmed?” Abel, the Russian spy says with a shrug of his shoulder…Would
    it help?

The moral of that story is highlighted from a line from an eight-century

    Buddhist sage Shantideval:

If there’s a solution, what’s the point of worrying?

If there’s no solution, what’s the point of worrying?

Willie Nelson sounded a bit like Shantideva when he said, “ I’ve never

seen worrying about anything change it. So I decided not to do it….You
know, we’re all gonna die. So we all have to say, “OK, I may be next,
you may be next, who knows.”

People, ordinary people can find the switch to worry and shut it off.

It’s not repressing it or pushing it down within you which can fester
and lead to cancer. It’s simply acknowledging that while things may
happen that are unexpected or not pleasant, we have the ability to try
and do the best we can in any given moment without fear and choose to
accept allow and surrender to adversity and try to make something good
out of it. That is an attitude and a choice we can make which can be
constructive and lead to good results ultimately.

Dean wrote, “The letting go of worry, of futile struggle against what

is, works from the smallest annoyance all the way to full blown crises
when we feel our whole life is melting down.”

Sheryl shares with Dean that she is told by her spiritual guides that

they are working very hard for us to move past the challenges of our
political social economic and religious challenges of these rapidly
changing times and that we must not allow ourselves to think that we
alone, must point out truth justice and the best way to thrive in all
our decisions. We can trust that what is right will eventually present
itself even as we go through what appears to be horrendously insensitive
actions by so many un-awakened souls.

Dean alludes to discuss the difference between religion and

spirituality, He wrote, “I once asked a Catholic priest who was on a
twelve step program, “What’s the difference between religion and
spirituality? He replied, “In my opinion, religion is for people who
pray to God so as not to go to hell. Spirituality is for people who have
already been there and are now looking for a way back home.”

Fear grief rage bitter disappointment our various afflictions may look

and feel different, but they’re all forms of the same primal suffering,
which is the sense of isolation of being alone and cut off from the wave
without an ocean. But there’s no such thing as a wave without an ocean.
The sages-Buddha Jesus Shankara and ordinary people have managed to wake
up out of isolation and suffering. Everyone of us can and can improve
    our lives.

Sheryl writes in her book The Living Spirit in regard to merging

spirituality with religion, “Loving all of humanity is made even more
difficult at times by the man-made inventions that seek to separate us.
While we can be separated by political or socioeconomic differences,
there has been no more divisive an issue than religion. Please do not
take this as a disparagement of religious beliefs. Only when we use our
beliefs to exclude others, then we may be ignoring the central message
of God and his messengers: that we are all connected to Universal Energy
    and to each other.”

Dean would like readers of Fear Less to take away with them after

reading the book the notion that, “As you allow ease to permeate your
life percolating through its fibers naturally dissolving and washing out
the old gunky deposits of fear rage and self-destructive craving, more
and more you are happy and at peace for no particular reason except
that’s what you are at your core and now your core is being unburied and
unburdened by old thoughts habits and old behaviors. As you awake and
break free from the old distortions a natural wisdom bigger than
separate “I” with its little thoughts emerges to guide your steps.”

In summarizing today’s episode of “Healing From Within” Dean Sluyter has

shown us that by relaxing into life, by becoming aware of sounds,
feeling, and the futility of trying to control events within and around
us, we begin to know ourselves as souls of an eternal source of
lightness of being which can move past fear restriction limitation to
create and enjoy life in all its beauty and goodness. The biggest fear
of being alone unloved and unappreciated are often just figments of the
ego and mind and a lack of awareness to our interconnectedness to all
that is, was, and will be in the eternal dance of life love and growing
awareness of Self through meditation self-reflection and allowing life
to unfold not as we will it or control it, but as we hope and dream it
to be, to make it wondrous, real, both here and beyond this physical
    world.

Dean wrote The silent, unmoving ocean of awareness is you. All the waves

of motion and change—thoughts, feelings sensations—pass frictionlessly
through you. Just notice this Leave it as it is, and let it go as it
    goes.”

Dean and I would share our love of life peace goodness and well-being

that we both have found within us, even as storms swirl around us, or
times and needs change, for we as souls have inner wisdom and personal
power to grow expand find peace as we surrender graciously to whatever
happens, without struggle, and trust the Universal Plan will be for our
ultimate good as we continue to change beyond fear and control. That is
truth and will always be TRUE.
