Health care is “free” in Canada, but there is a catch. In Canada, it’s hard to make timely appointments for specialty care. SecondStreet.org, which is based in Canada, has been tracking patient data in Canadian provinces related to delayed surgeries and COVID-19. SecondStreet.org has documented 2,256 cases of patients who died while waiting for what could have been life-saving/life-improving surgery or diagnostic scans.

Private health care enterprise is banned for the most part in Canada. Many Canadians travel abroad to get the health care they need. Craig discusses one case of a mom who lost two children while waiting for health care. The most recent child had COVID-19 and was too sick to travel for care. Craig discusses how his organization compiled the data and sees where the trend is heading. Listeners in the U.S. might want to take note. Cases of COVID-19 have been the lowest since testing began – fewer than 15,000 cases a day, according to the New York Times. Can this be attributed to the mass vaccine campaign, or are a number of Americans naturally immune to the disease? If they are, why is it important they know?

COVID-19 demonstrated how easily Americans accept lockdowns, masks, social distancing, and experimental vaccines for those not at risk of dying from the disease. What happened? How did Americans become so afraid of one another?

Emina Melonic explores this issue in her latest article, entitled Bleached New World, published by American Greatness. Melonic brings an interesting perspective as a Bosnian War survivor who came to the U.S. to earn her doctorate in comparative literature. Melonic makes a comparison between COVID-19 fear and totalitarianism. How and why did Americans so willingly give up “rugged individualism” to accept all the COVID-19 orders without question? What would happen today if the U.S. faced a major global threat, like war? Has COVID-19 changed us and can this cognitive dissonance be turned around?

Christina Herrin interviews Sarah Anderson, director of policy for FreedomWorks. Herrin and Anderson discuss COVID-19 truths, vaccine passports, and wasteful government spending. The COVID-19 pandemic led to power grabs by Washington bureaucrats. Americans are tired of the lies coming from the Swamp.

Congress is preparing to revamp health care with either a “public option” or a reduced age to qualify for Medicare. Melissa Davert shares why this move will be to the detriment of those with significant health care needs. Davert and her college-aged, twin children have osteogenesis imperfecta, a condition that makes bones fragile, causes heart and spine issues, and short stature. Her husband has cerebral palsy. Despite these health issues, every family member works or attends college.

Due to their unique situation, the Daverts seeks reasonably priced health care through the private market, something they had before Obamacare took effect. Melissa discusses lifetime savings accounts, high-risk pools and “centers of excellence,” or a Medicare Advantage-type plan, as better ways to cover their needs than Medicaid. Due to government intrusion in health care, Medicaid seems to be one of the few choices her children have left. The family wants to work and save for the future, but under Medicaid, they are restricted from acquiring assets. The current system also makes their physicians go through hoops to get approval from insurance for treatment.

Melissa’s situation was also profiled in a report by the Republican Study Committee in 2019.

This week, the CDC said it is all right to shed the mask indoors if you are vaccinated. Before that, there was a report that changed its mind on how COVID is spread, whether through aerosols or droplets.  Then, the FDA pulls the Johnson and Johnson vaccine, only to give it the green light weeks later with no restrictions.  No wonder the public is confused.

Dr. Erwin Haas, an infectious disease expert, explains why there is so much conflicting guidance from the nation’s health agencies. Haas also discusses the development of vaccines in the past and how they’ve been a work in progress, something the public may not appreciate as they consider the COVID-19 vaccines that have been in public distribution for less than one year.  Haas wrote about his personal experience involving the developers of the whooping cough vaccine from days past.  He got to interview one of the pioneers and how that discussion is extremely relevant today.

Paul Alexander, Ph.D. joins the show to discuss his article published April 23, by the American Institute for Economic Research, 14 Months Later: A Pathway Forward. Alexander, who is a health research methodologist in evidence-based medicine at McMaster University in Toronto, holds degrees in epidemiology and evidence-based medicine from McMaster and Oxford Universities.

Alexander’s article contains an easy to understand comprehensive list on the hard lessons the public has learned from the COVID-19 response. He discussed in depth how public health agencies utterly failed the small segment that was most at risk from dying from COVID-19: the elderly.

Alexander has some frank comments about the alarming rates of obesity and how this contributed to COVID-19 deaths. He states his thoughts on the COVID-19 vaccines and why they are inappropriate for individuals under the age of 70. Alexander discusses the management of group homes and how we could have better managed staff/resident transmission. Alexander also points out why he believes the SARS-COV2 virus is not a pandemic in the traditional sense. Pandemics impact all age groups in an equal way. The COVID-19 virus did not. SARS-CoV1 in 2009 was more lethal, yet the public managed with without huge, top-down lockdowns and restrictions.

Stephen Moses, the president of the Center for Long Term Care, joins the show to discuss a recommendation to Congress that could make nursing home care worse, not better. The MACPAC Commission, which advises Congress on the issue, is recommending that Medicaid make estate recoveries voluntary. What this means is that nursing home residents who have qualified for Medicaid coverage no longer have to pay the bill back from their estate, even if there are appreciable assets. Such a move will put enormous stress on Medicaid and give people little incentive to save and pay for private care. Nursing home care has been under the spotlight since more than 20 percent of people who died from COVID-19 lived in nursing homes. Medicaid is the biggest payer of nursing home care in the U.S. Congress should make it easier for the free market to work by making it easier for people to save for long term care.
