Born in 1907 to landowning peasants on the outskirts of Fatima, Portugal,  Lúcia (who died in 2005 at 97) came to prominence in 1917 as the oldest of the three child seers of the Our Lady of Fátima Marian apparitions, involving her and her two cousins, Francisco (1908-19) and Jacinta Marto (1910-1920). October 7 celebrates every year The Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary to honor the Blessed Virgin Mary and the power of the Rosary prayer. In each of her six appearances to the three shepherd children (Lucia, Francisco, and Jacinta) between May and October 1917, Mary asked them to pray the Rosary every day. In her July 1917 apparition, Mary taught the children a short prayer to be recited after the Glory Be at the end of each decade of the Rosary: “O my Jesus, forgive us our sins, save us from the fires of hell. Lead all souls to heaven, especially those most in need of thy mercy.” Mary stated that the daily Rosary was essential for bringing an end to World War I and achieving global peace, emphasizing that only through this prayer and conversion could peace be secured. During her final apparition on October 13, 1917—coinciding with the Miracle of the Sun—she identified herself explicitly as "Our Lady of the Rosary." The feast marks a major naval battle on October 7, 1571. A Christian fleet called the Holy League fought the powerful Ottoman Navy. Pope St. Pius V asked all Christians across Europe to pray the Rosary for a safe victory. The smaller Christian fleet won the battle and credited their success to Mary's intercession. Pope Pius V first named the day the Feast of Our Lady of Victory. Later, Pope Gregory XIII changed the name to the Feast of the Holy Rosary. Pope Pius X set the final fixed date of October 7 in 1913. The Catholic Church dedicates the entire month of October to the Holy Rosary. Believers use this month to meditate on the life of Jesus through the prayers of the Rosary. Jesus tells the story of a father asks his two sons to work in his vineyard in the Gospel of Matthew (21:28-32). The first son initially refuses but later changes his mind and works. The second son agrees to work but then doesn't. The father's will is done by the first son, who repents and obeys, while the second son, who makes a false commitment, doesn't fulfill it. Saint Francis of Assisi Feast Day (October 4) honors the moment Francis received the stigmata—bodily marks resembling the crucifixion wounds of Jesus Christ. St. Francis received the wounds in September 1224 while praying and fasting on Mount La Verna in Tuscany, Italy. Francis is the first historically recorded person to bear the stigmata. The event signifies a deep spiritual union with Christ's passion and love. Saint Francis (1181-1226) was an Italian mystic, poet and mendicant friar who founded the religious order of the Franciscans in the early 13th century. E366.

STORY of AMERICA 🇺🇸 Native Americans of the Northeastern Woodlands based in southeastern Massachusetts are called The Wampanoag, meaning People of the First Light. How did these indigenous tribes view themselves and the world around them in the period immediately preceding contact with Europeans? The Wampanoag were part of a larger group of North American Indians known as the Algonquian. They, and many of the other native peoples in New England, spoke a language belonging to the Algonquian language family and is most closely related to those spoken by the Mohican.
