As a teen, Andrew Leland was diagnosed with a hereditary eye disease that develops progressively. Now, in middle age, the journalist and audio producer describes himself as "near the end of sight." In his memoir The Country of the Blind, Leland reflects on his lifelong journey of vision loss and grapples with his identity, as he straddles sightedness and blindness.
