In an industry where systemizing and adding real structure is rare, how could it benefit your practice and patients to focus on efficiency? Dr Emily McMahan of Alaska Hearing has demonstrated how introducing an “unbundled” model has paid off in her practice, recognising that one service model didn’t serve her patients.
Dr Emily originally had a 5-10 year plan to go into private practice, but just 15 months into her career as a practicing audiologist she decided to take the plunge. 6 years later she has two locations.
Looking at a patient and having a flexible service offering that can be built with them in mind has made a huge difference to how consulting appointments go, and the trust that is built from the outset.
Dr Emily talks to Oli about exactly how she has used this approach to build a highly successful practice.
Highlights:
“When I first opened, in full disclosure I was that traditional bundled model because I didn’t know how else to structure it and within about 3 months we immediately started mixing that up and I introduced an unbundled method.”
“We don’t typically as people make good choices when we feel like we’re forced or closeted in to a decision.”
“How in my practice can I present this information to my patients that when I’m in that patient chair I feel like I’m making an informed decision that I’m comfortable with?”
“We’re at about a 93% close rate currently using this method, and that is statistically higher than average.”
“I try not to run my practice reactively, I try to run it proactively.”
