How We Got Away with Murder

In Episode 2 — “It’s All Her Fault” — Matt and Jack revisit the moment when How to Get Away with Murder officially got picked up, reflecting on the move from freezing Philadelphia to sunny Los Angeles and the nerve-wracking limbo between filming the pilot and waiting for the series green light. As they jump into the episode, the guys unpack Annalise’s toxic entanglement with Nate, the deepening suspicion around Sam, and the uneasy dynamics of the Keating Five as their likeability starts to fray. The conversation lands on the episode’s final twist — Wes finding Rebecca at the motel — leaving questions swirling, and keep us guessing for what comes next.

Jack and Matt sit down with How to Get Away with Murder creator Pete Nowalk for a deep-dive chat into how the iconic pilot came together. Pete revisits the whirlwind of developing the story, figuring out the show’s signature flash-forward structure, and the early uncertainty over whether audiences would connect with such a morally complicated world. He shares behind-the-scenes stories about shaping Annalise Keating, navigating network notes, and the nerve-racking process of casting a lead who could command the series’ emotional and intellectual intensity. Packed with anecdotes about collaboration, creative risk, and trusting bold instincts, the episode offers fans a rare look at the making of a television pilot that changed the landscape of network drama forever.

Jack and Matt dive into the HTGAWM pilot — the episode that started it all. From first impressions and early character dynamics to casting surprises and those unforgettable flash-forwards, the guys break down what immediately hooked audiences (and what still holds up a decade later). Jack reacts to the pilot with fresh eyes, while Matt fills in behind-the-scenes context, including what it felt like stepping onto set for the very first time. Along the way, they unpack Annalise Keating’s commanding introduction, the formation of the Keating Five, and how the pilot set the tone for six seasons of secrets, lies, and legal chaos.
