Weird things happen in Kentucky…chili buns…distilleries in dry counties…Johnny Depp. But perhaps the strangest was the day it rained meat on a rural farmstead. The event, now known as the Kentucky Meat Shower, is not only 100% real, it’s also yet to be fully explained. What would cause the heavens to open and drop a meaty monsoon on an unsuspecting farmer’s wife? We grab our umbrellas (and grills) and dive in to the Kentucky Meat Shower this week. Plus, Joe Peck returns to the show (it was unexpected), Kyle gets buggy again (less unexpected), and Conspiracy Bot has a new song (we wish we hadn’t expected it). All of that and more on the podcast that’s never been in a shower of meat, but one can dream – Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sources:Research Assistant - Raymond Walden IVBooks / JournalsThe United States of Absurdity: Untold Stories from American History Hardcover | Dave AnthonyThe Kentucky Shower of Flesh. Did you know that James Bond saved the Allies during WW2 and turned the tide of the war? Well, that’s the clickbait, misleading version – but closer to accurate than you think. Operation Mincemeat was a secret spy plan executed by the MI5, Britain’s counter-intelligence and security agency, during WW2. The audacious plan involved planting fake war plans, tracking a single eyelash, and the success of one agent, Captain (Acting Major) William Martin – who was already dead. We’ll explain that. We grab our shoe phone, hop into our Aston Martin, and sneak into Operation Mincemeat this week. Plus, Conspiracy Bot is cooking again (that’s bad), Kyle is helping him cook (that’s worse), and the fellas try the cooking (RIP). All of that and more on the podcast that’s never found a dead body floating in the water…handcuffed to an attaché full of war plans – Hysteria 51.

In late February of 1978, five men were heading home from attending a college basketball game when they stopped for some snacks. This would be the last time the men were seen or heard from again (maybe). Thus begins the strange story of the Yuba County Five. What caused these men to drive the opposite direction of their homes in the dead of night? Why would they navigate up a snowy mountain road only to abandon their (perfectly good) car and set out on foot? Where is the fifth man whose remains were never found? And that’s only the tip of the iceberg on this truly bizarre and mystifying tale. We grab our flashlights and snowshoes to go in search of the Yuba County Five this week. Plus, Alexa tries to take over John’s hosting duties (might be an improvement), we discover that for some reason Conspiracy Bot has dry cleaning (he’ll try to explain), and the fellas spend way too much time examining an inane aspect of the story (translation: it’s just another episode). Three quarters of the United States’ public water supplies and supplies of at least 24 other countries are artificially fluoridated. Meaning, fluoride is added to the drinking water to pass it along to the population. Ostensibly this is being done to strengthen our teeth (you paid attention in health class, right?) BUT, there are some that believe there is a much more sinister plan behind the synthetic shenanigans. Is this simply a harmless additive that we should thank the government for, or is there something much more sinister behind the additive? Are they saving us dentist appointments or turning us into witless lemmings as to allow THEM to do as they please? We grab our water bottles and talk fluoridation this week. Plus, British Announcer guy pops in unannounced (not surprising), Conspiracy Bot isn’t happy to seem him (also not surprising), and the Brit has an unhealthy interest in Kyle (a bit more surprising). The internet is full of mysteries. Most of them are driven by either a lack of information or a gigantic leap in logic. But then there’s some, some that can’t be explained away by ignorance. Some that can’t be ignored by logic. Case in point, the mystery of the Lake City Quiet Pills. What begins, at cursory glance, with the death of an aging veteran with a penchant for inappropriate photos of young women – quickly devolves into what could be a world-wide network of mercenaries and assassins. Was there a secret group of top level mercs-for-hire executing deadly missions all across the world – all being puppet mastered by a redditor named Religion of Peace? Or is this yet another case of the uninformed leading the ignorant into the mobius strip of phony internet hoaxes? That’s the Lake City Quiet Pills and it’s this week. Plus, the fellas talk the Oscars (not really, but unlike the Oscars – Rambo Last Blood makes an appearance here). Kyle seems a little off (well, more than usual). And Conspiracy Bot gets pretty graphic (you’ll see). There lived a certain man in Russia long ago. He was big and strong, in his eyes a flaming glow. Most people look at him with terror and with fear. But to Moscow chicks he was such a lovely dear. He could preach the Bible like a preacher, full of ecstasy and fire. But he also was the kind of teacher women would desire.
OK – that doesn’t have a ton to do with the actual Rasputin, but man it’s a fun 1978 Euro disco hit single by the Germany-based pop band Boney M. That’s where we start week 2 of our exploration of Rasputin. And while his eyes might not have actually been aflame, his supernatural reputation continues to precede him. Was he really a mystic healer? Did he actually eat enough cyanide to kill a small town without the slightest effect? How many bullets can you put into a “mad monk” before he goes down? We stay in Russia this week as we explore the death and legacy of everyone’s favorite miscreant – Ra-Ra-Rasputin. Plus, Conspiracy Bot admits a penchant for crocheting (we don’t know), Brent spends a little too much time researching…lil Rasputin (again, no idea), and John drops a Bonya and Kuzmich reference (we give up). All of that and more on the podcast that doesn’t always get its hosts back, but when we do – we aren’t sure they were better than the replacements - Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sources:Research Assistant - Raymond Walden IVBooksRasputin: Faith, Power, and the Twilight of the Romanovs | Douglas SmithRasputin: A Short Life | Frances WelchThe Big Black Book of Government Conspiracies | Andrè RavenSkül VenåsVideosSimple History - https://youtu.be/JXdbseRz0lcCloud Biography - https://youtu.be/ev5dNfRncFoRasputin - https://imdb.to/2SAJ5qLRa Ra Rasputin - https://youtu.be/aiSdTQ9DW9gWebsitesGrigori Rasputin - https://bit.ly/2SDuB9wPierre Gilliard - https://bit.ly/30t3akPLA Times - https://lat.ms/2MTHOaPInternational Encyclopedia of WWI - https://bit.ly/2Q4kIQuTsar - https://bit.ly/2F9kfWRHistory - https://bit.ly/2ZDJ46PKhodynka Tragedy - https://bit.ly/2MF29AnAlpha History - https://bit.ly/39mq3dvTsar Nicholas II - https://bit.ly/2EZPdAZRa Ra Rasputin lyrics - https://bit.ly/2toua97TIME - https://bit.ly/367MykzThe Awl - https://bit.ly/37o7u7bWebsters Dictionary - https://bit.ly/2ZzgALpAlexander Palace - https://bit.ly/363FSmPLocal Life –https://bit.ly/2MFAH5CKhioniya Guseva –https://bit.ly/3aMhMAw

Grigori Rasputin was one of the vilest, yet powerful villains in history. He was a giant both metaphorically and literally. He controlled magical powers of the dark arts, likely supplied by the devil. He was so powerful that after being poisoned, shot, stabbed, shot again, beaten, and thrown into a river – he was not yet dead.
Or….
Grigori Rasputin was a short, drunk womanizer that constantly stunk. Yet somehow, he wormed his way into the royal court of Nicholas the 2nd, the last Czar of Russia. Any “magic” or paranormal ability he showed was a mixture of good old-fashioned quackery and psycho somatic results – amplified by legend and time.
Which is true? Could both be legitimate accounts of one of the most notorious names in Russian history. We grab our ruler and head to 19th Century Russia to find out this week. Plus, Brent mistakes early 20th century Russian literature for Star Trek (who hasn’t?), Conspiracy Bot compares childhood mortality rates in 19th Century Russia to a Meatloaf song (who hasn’t), and the fellas get sick on Aldebaran whiskey for national “Ditch Your New Year’s Resolutions Day” (again, who hasn’t?). All of that and more on the podcast that doesn’t always talk late 19th century Russian historical figures, but when we do you better believe they have their own theme song - Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sources:Research Assistant - Raymond Walden IVBooksRasputin: Faith, Power, and the Twilight of the Romanovs | Douglas SmithRasputin: A Short Life | Frances WelchThe Big Black Book of Government Conspiracies | Andrè RavenSkül VenåsVideosSimple History - https://youtu.be/JXdbseRz0lcCloud Biography - https://youtu.be/ev5dNfRncFoRasputin - https://imdb.to/2SAJ5qLRa Ra Rasputin - https://youtu.be/aiSdTQ9DW9gWebsitesGrigori Rasputin - https://bit.ly/2SDuB9wPierre Gilliard - https://bit.ly/30t3akPLA Times - https://lat.ms/2MTHOaPInternational Encyclopedia of WWI - https://bit.ly/2Q4kIQuTsar - https://bit.ly/2F9kfWRHistory - https://bit.ly/2ZDJ46PKhodynka Tragedy - https://bit.ly/2MF29AnAlpha History - https://bit.ly/39mq3dvTsar Nicholas II - https://bit.ly/2EZPdAZRa Ra Rasputin lyrics - https://bit.ly/2toua97TIME - https://bit.ly/367MykzThe Awl - https://bit.ly/37o7u7bWebsters Dictionary - https://bit.ly/2ZzgALpAlexander Palace –https://bit.ly/363FSmP

So often on shows like this we talk about a cryptid that might not even have ever BEEN. Their mere existence; conjecture – their birth; legend. BUT, this case is a bit different. The Thylacine or Tasmanian Tiger was a real, honest-to-goodness, Linnaean classified animal! No conjecture here. There are stuffed versions of these bad boys in museums across the world! But, what happened to them? Did this missing marsupial truly go extinct, or did they recede into the shadows to become the subject of folktale and lore fueled by real sightings? We grab our boxing gloves and go on a walkabout in search of Tassie this week. Plus, Conspiracy Bot decides he’s going to get professorial (he fails), Alexa is getting jealous of Kyle (we don’t know why either), and the fellas debate the virtues of Wombats vs Tasmanian Devils (it’s a big day for marsupials). All of that and more on the podcast that has never successfully driven a species to extinction, but it won’t keep our robot from trying – Hysteria 51.Special thanks to this week’s research sources:Research Assistant – Raymond Walden IVBooksThe Last Tasmanian Tiger: The History and Extinction of the Thylacine | Robert PaddleTasmanian Tiger: The Tragic Tale of How the World Lost Its Most Mysterious Predator | David OwenVideosThe Thylacine – https://bit.ly/39YS1N1Tasmanian Tiger Back From The Dead!? 5 Weird Animal Facts – https://bit.ly/36CMWYxRen’s Most Classic Insults! – https://bit.ly/2QEmng3BRT Video Final – https://youtu.be/K5LQd-0EqocWebsitesMerriam Webster – https://bit.ly/36J74brCryptid Wiki – https://bit.ly/307rDvICNN – https://cnn.it/3a0iF7UThe Guardian – https://bit.ly/2QFitDGAll That’s Interesting – https://bit.ly/2QHnjjSAll That’s Interesting – https://bit.ly/2Ne8lPXNat Geo – https://bit.ly/389wmQxWhere Light Meets Dark – https://bit.ly/35OnHRNGizmodo – https://bit.ly/35NnWg4

“He slimed me”. This quote from the venerable parapsychologist Dr Peter Venkman was likely your introduction to the phenomenon known as ectoplasm. But Slimer and the Ghostbusters weren’t the first folks to encounter the goo. Ectoplasm has been reported and photographed for over a century. Is this paranormal plasma truly a physical manifestation of the spirit world or simply another hoax perpetuated by fools and phonies? We grab our Ecto Coolers and dive into a warm pool of Ectoplasm this week. Plus a member of the show makes their triumphant return (oh and John’s back too), bad jokes are made about being slimed (Brent is still here), and Conspiracy Bot screws up the very small amount of research he was supposed to do (stay gold, Ponyboy).
