We’ve both used the Myers-Briggs to learn about our personalities and it has hugely impacted our work and personal lives once we really embraced it. We’ve used assessments to hire the perfect virtual assistant and craft our ideal roles. In this episode we talk (excitedly) about how useful personal assessments are and wonder why they are not used more in healthcare workplaces.
We discuss the Myers-Briggs, DISC, and Clifton Strengths Assessment revealing findings about each of us. These assessments have been so useful in helping us see what we should be doing more of and what should be delegated. Why do healthcare workers feel like they need to be good at everything and do it all?? Is that just the culture? Why are we not delegating out more of the things we don’t like in therapy like documentation?

Anti-racist actions: the status quo is not okay and we need to continue working toward change. We need more equity in businesses. More diversity and diverse view-points represented in our own lives, in healthcare, and in our practices.
Something that has helped us to continue making that change personally has been diversifying who we follow on social media and the authors we’re reading.

In the last episode we talked about what to do to get your wellness practice started. We had a physical therapist from our audience ask a question. Emily asked “if I’m doing this as a side gig, what’s the first step? Talking to a lawyer?” We answer her question and talk more about what those first steps are and dive into how to determine what type of service to offer that will really thrive in your area.
We also discuss the key ingredient to getting your wellness side gig or business going that was essential for both of us when we got started with our own businesses.
Learn the routes we took to get started and what that looked like as far as additional work for income as well as renting, scoping out places to get started, and what your rental arrangement should look like if you do decide to rent from someone.

Many therapists don't know how to approach wellness in neuro. They are nervous about doing something wrong and limit the progress their clients can make. Many don't have credible programs to send their patients to after discharge - to that we say: START SOMETHING AND HERE IS WHY!!
How does your background impact the trajectory of your life? Your career? What are obstacles you’ve overcome to get to where you are? What if life stacked things against you making it so difficult to get to where you want to go?
We invited Oscar Gallardo, fellow neuro therapist and passionate advocate for the profession to discuss what it is like being latino in the profession. Plus we’ll discuss where we need to go to improve diversity, inclusion, and access both in the profession and in the patients we serve and why it starts VERY early on.
