Jamie Hess, an influencer, speaker, author, and teacher, and a Patreon follower of mine, joins me to tell her story of going from the dregs of addiction to the heights of healthy happiness. Growing up with her mother on national TV every day, being “America’s mom”, Jamie went the other way and got into some heavy stuff. But she turned it around and through her sobriety grew as a person and as a content creator. Now she’s helping others make it in this crazy business. Join us for a wild ride with Jamie spitting wisdom at every turn, with warmth and humor along the way. And if you want to be a guest on Idiot, you can join my Patreon and submit at Patreon.com/lauraclery. All are welcome here and we read every single submission. Learn more about your ad choices. I don't think I like doing these solo episodes anymore. I said it out loud and I'm not taking it back. So today's a real one -- my throat's doing something disgusting, I'm restructuring the whole show, my son's about to try surfing for the first time, and I somehow ended up reading a horny romance novella and diagnosing myself as a love addict. come sit with me while I figure out what this show even is now. My son can't be left alone for ten seconds — I found that out again this morning when he hopped our front gate in his boxers and beat me to school on his own scooter. By the time I caught up he was mid-meltdown on campus, and I walked away scratched and bitten and trying not to spiral. I get into what actually helped — a book I'm currently obsessed with, the exact phrases I use to talk him down, and why I think last night's birthday-party sugar had a lot to do with it. Then we lighten it way up: my daughter's new favorite phrase, a week of creatine and some concerning bloat, and whether it's a bad idea to bring my ex-boyfriend to a wedding in Cabo. How are you doing today, on a scale of one to ten? I ask because I've had a wildly up-and-down week -- feral ovulation, a UTI supplement I will die on a hill for, and a very failed attempt at celibacy. I opened Facebook up to any question, and today I answer every single one of them, including the ones I probably shouldn't have. Come along. When this doctor was told his child’s diagnosis, he was told he couldn’t do anything about it. He thought that was wrong. So Dr. Robert Melillo dove into how the brain works to try to figure out the cause of conditions like autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. You won’t believe what he found. And he now treats it all by changing the brain. It’s pretty mind-blowing and better yet hopeful. Jump into how the left side and right side of the brain work with me. I found out my brain is probably out of balance. Maybe yours is, too? As a reminder, my new book What Doesn’t Kill You Makes You Hotter is available wherever books are sold.
