It has been my observation the sola scriptura crowd is so worried you will go wild if you seek the Holy Spirit, that they water it down as much as possible so it sounds more like a brick than a ghost, and add on so much regualations that it can impact you the least possible way positively or negatively.

One warning is they quote “nothing beyond what is written.”

If you’re too buddy buddy with the Holy Ghost you will be tempted to go beyond what is written to outside the safe zones or a consistent hermetic and expositional preaching. A lot of this stems from 1 corinthaians 4:6 nothing beyond what is written.

But why does the expotionlly preacher tell you about all that they know about that verse, the historical culture at that time, events going on around that place, even though that stuff is not written in text, they see no problem overlaying historical or grammatical commentary beyond what is verbatim written, or personal anecdotes that is also beyond what is written. They will tell you about the author and most likely influences going on in his life, who his immediate audience was, and some how none of this is in the text, it might all be accurate, or close, at least interesting, but definitely beyond their goal post of nothing beyond what is written,

However their goal post is misplaced.

1 corthinians 4:6

I don’t think that verse’s focus is sola scriptura becasue the New Testament may not have even been finished at this time. At least 2 Corinthians wasn’t written when Paul wrote nothing beyond what is written in 1 Corinthians. Here’s the same verse, but with the verse before and after

Is that Paul saying only ever quote the Old Testament verbatim? Or only his letters verbatim? Is Paul saying something else?

If you still think paul is primarilly saying sola scriptura in this chapter that was the main thrust was corthians, root out the silly appeals to the Holy Spirit, only say what was written in the Old Testament or what you hear from me. Either way the word of God is unique and unparalleled it’s not us who through our grammar detective work separates the word of God from pronoun and adverb but it judges us.

Knowing the scriptures is profitable, how can you argue for ignorance?

No one is denying you should study this book, but it won’t get you all the way to being right with God. It’s not the hearer of the words, but the doer of the words.

The Bible is the best book, maybe the only thing you’d ever have to study, it will exist long past any of my comments about it. Or yours. It has stood the test of time, past rulers who followed other books, who exiled and enslaved the Bible believing people. I heard jeff durbin say that Christians who thought the world was evil got that from the gnostics view of dualsim.

I didn’t come to the conclusion the world is evil because I watched the matrix a bunch or read ancient gnostic texts.

I wanted to get the point across that the world is a house on fire, from sin, it’s only going to get worse, we can’t put it out, there is no sense in remodelining, or restoring a house on fire, the sole focus should be, rescuing people out of the house, which symbolizes being born again and being discipled. In this burning house analogy a disciple is person rescued out of the house, trained for rescuing, fitted with fire resistant cloths and a respirator, than that person would run back in to pull someone else out, they would not go back in to try and save their room. Just like firman they are not immune to death from the fire, the clothes are not fire proof, just helps keep some of the heat off. And things can fall them, floor can drop out,

The Bibical reason why I lean towards rescue are the following. We are told the world is is bad, to not commit adultry with the world, being a follower of Jesus, you are willing to carry your cross, and no longer care for your earthly life, you are now born again and looking forward to the new earth Jesus will bring with him at his return. With all that in mind, i see little reason, to think it’s good to try take root in the world, and lots of caution about it being adultry, I don’t think you will straighten out the twisted world, it will bend you.

I knew there are some weakness with that, because not all the epistles explicitly say that, or even give information to counter act that. Such as if Paul is talking about parenthood, and picking elders who have a good reputation in and outside the church, those two things alone give roots to a more restorative approach. Also the length of time, the longer Jesus waits to return, the less like a house on fire seems to fit, and the more like we have time to restore this house or parts that were’n’t destroyed yet, or as the flames maybe shift from one part of the world to another, you could maybe salvage a terrority for a time, and use it as base to launch more missionaries on the great mission further into the house.

The reason I still favor the gospel is closer to a rescue mission, is we never knew when Jesus will return, when our time is up, when someone who is not right with God will die, and behaving like it’s a rescue mission treats is single minded focus. The priority is people need to repent and trust in Jesus for payment of their sins.

I’ll confess what first triggered me about Ben, was his dismissal of Trump 4 years ago. 4 years ago when trump was running for office, and I thought it was possible he had a shot I was lot more enthusiastic about my earthly life, that with Trump and some of the things he was saying about God, and religious protections, that it be a revial along the lines of make America Christian again. When I’d take shots at Ben back than, it was always as Ben was not trumpy enough.

This was not made with the intention of hurting ben’s feelings, I know facts don’t care about feelings, but people are not feelingless facts. The likely hood of persuading Ben that his outlook is wrong, is low, he gets paid to give his opinion it’s pretty sweet deal, he has every natural inclination to biased in keeping his deal going.

This was intended for Christians who like Ben because his politics more overlap to the Bible than the demoncrats.

But I think they get unequally yoked with hitching on Ben’s wagon. Sure Ben’s wagon is not as visually broken as the demoncrats wagon, but neither one is headed on the narrow road. Ben and the democrats both want to rule this world, and have no consideration for Jesus’s return.

Jesus didn’t just argue with drunks and bums and whipped them telling them to get their act together Jesus branded the whip around people posing as holy and argued with the people who had the moral authority of his day. The drunks and bums were not the ones who captured Jesus and put pressure on Pilate to execute him. It is a waste of time and energy to focus on politics when you should be focused on the great commission.

There are specific claims in the Bible about not loving this world, don’t think too much about your life in it, by being a Christian, you now focused on the Bridegroom returning that’s where your hope is in. God does need you to beat the devil, he will handle that. God offers you a chance to admit you’re a sinner, and to accept his gift of forgiveness, he doesn’t demand you get into politics and figure out how to raise money, make dirty deals to grease the wheels, and spend your time, trying to win a popularity contest with heathens. Politics is easier to disregard when you don’t look at the noble way the people tryin to pull you into you present it, but you see it as the the dirty business of making deals with devil, he is who the Bible says rules this world, there’s no way around that statement.

If a heathen might be upset that they can’t do what they want, when they want because they are correctly operating from they better eat drink and be merry because they have a rude awakening waiting for them when they die, they bettter get all that they can now. As a christian, you are no longer under time constraints. this was not my first fly over Sam’s Death Star. But some flaws I have noticed in my previous paths is I have critiqued the implications of some of Sam’s beliefs, without showing the lack of merit in his beliefs. So what if the implications would overturn the status quo, if they are true, let the chips fall where they may.

Sam does not believe in free will and that self is an illusion. The implications would be why do we vote, why use the market place of ideas, if we really don’t choose why put voting on a pedestal. I guess we couldn’t help it we have no choice. Pondering in Sam’s view of determinism quickly leads to wandering off of a clear path. But so what, if it were true, we’d best face it.

I regret that didn’t begin with before you consider the implications, the reasons and evidence Sam gives to his extradornary claim that people don’t have free will, Sam does not deliver extradornay evidence.

What is his evidence, i am paraphrasing but i don’t think getting the gist wrong. This is the example I heard him give to Joe Rogan to disprove freewill.

There was an experiment. People were brought in as subjects. they had to pick to lift there left or right arm. There is a device, they are hooked up to that montiers the subjects brain activity. Either with blood movement, or electrical activity this device can tell the technician when the subject made the decision to lift the right or left arm. When the subject decided, they made some signal to the technician. The technician already knew before the subject gave them that signal. Sam goes that’s proof you don’t consciously decide, because before you signal you decided, someone looking at this device, already knew.

Maybe that was extraordinary to you. Maybe you have no choice, and you can’t help but think, that’s convincing. If Sam is right you don’t really choose if it is extraordinary or not.

For me i thought I must be too dumb to understand the experiment, but Sam really seems to be sure.

Still I don’t see how this disproved someone choosing left or right, it wasn’t that the device or the technician decided for the subject, just it picked up on it the subject’s decision before the subject communicated that signal to the technician. It at best picked up an earlier position in the chain of events, of the subjects decision. I don’t see how the experiment shown people dont’ make free will decisions, that all are decisions are just random, nonsensical. You might randomly decide left or right arm sitting in a safe setting, but do you randomly decide to make a right or left turn in your car, and don’t look for other cars, if there’s a road you’re turning onto or a cliff. When Sam was explaining the experiment I thought he was going to lead to a clear demonstration of how the subject wanted to go left, but the device made it go right. Even if that were the case, or in a later date such a device could be made, it still wouldn’t disprove that humans have free will. It would only prove a mind control device could control a human brain.

If you’re thinking, just because that experiment is not world shattering like the Wright brothers getting a plane in the air. Maybe Sam has other arguments. How do you so pridefully know free will does exist?
