Elizabeth Packard was a modest mother of six living in the late 1800s. Her husband had her committed to an asylum after she started voicing a different religious outlook to him (he was a pastor). Elizabeth spend three years in the asylum, and managed to do what many could not - she proved her sanity. Not only that but she went on to make real change for women and those with mental ill health. Kate Moore has told Elizabeth's story in her book The Woman They Could Not SilenceKate explains why she wanted to tell this story and the legacy of everything Elizabeth achieved..
