Being the only marketing designer on the team can be tough, but also very rewarding as you'll hear in this wonderfully transparent episode from David Preston. At Sendible, everyone on the team is encouraged to be the "CEO" of their own domain and you'll get a lot of great insights from David as he talks about his responsibilities and process for getting a lot done as a team of one.

ABOUT THE SHOW
Inside Marketing Design was created to highlight a different side of design in tech: marketing and brand design. Inside Marketing Design chats with the people designing high-converting landing pages, setting the style for brand imagery, crafting campaigns, and working hand-in-hand with the marketing team. Every episode takes a deep dive into the processes, principles and people who make marketing design happen. You'll hear about how teams are structured, how designers approach projects and what challenges they face.

Inside Marketing Design is hosted by Charli Marie. Charli is the Creative Director at ConvertKit, and has a YouTube channel (CharliMarieTV), where she posts weekly videos with career tips & advice, work streams, and what she's learned throughout her design career. Basecamp takes a different approach to growing a tech company, and the same is true of their approach to marketing design. In this episode I speak to Basecamp’s lead (and only) marketing designer, Adam Stoddard, about how his approach to integrated design has him designing in the browser, copywriting, maintaining multiple websites and doing the print design too! You’ll hear how he gets it all done, and have some preconceived notions about the “right” way to do things questioned.

At Surrey Satellite Technology, Emily Kelly’s work is hugely varied: from internal posters, to event stand designs, to stickers that end up on rockets floating in low orbit! In this episode I chat with Emily about how she gets work done at a space company with such an extensive history and (spoiler alert) learn that things aren’t as different or as strict as I thought they would be.

In the early stages of a startup a designer often has to wear multiple hats and be leading the direction for the brand as well as the design and UX of the product. In this episode you’ll learn about how Brent Palmer manages this by equipping the team at Proof with assets, templates and guides to self-service when possible. You’ll also learn a lot about testing and experimentation, something that many companies only tackle when they get a lot bigger (but can benefit a company at any stage).
