  • In it for the Planet with Roxy Furman
Considering this is episode 54, I think I should win a medal for this being the first time I have actively discussed veganism with a guest (I type I as sit here in a t-shirt that says "Vegan Babe".)
This week I chat with wildlife presenter & filmmaker Roxy Furman. Talking all about her love for African painted dogs to her transition to a vegan lifestyle & how this incorporates into her wildlife filmmaking. Of course we also, vegan to vegan, share our pet hates about meat eaters & other vegans!

  • Youth Environmental Activism with James Miller
The environment has always, for what I can remember, needed protecting & needed a voice. In the last few years, no voice has been louder & clearer than that of the youth generation. This week I am joined by campaigner & environmental activist, James Miller.
James shares how it is talking with such high level decision makers & where he thinks the UK has gone wrong but also what options we have available. I was also dying to ask James what it was like to address Parliament for the RSPB's Green Recovery Plan & how the idea came up for two online concerts to raise money for Reserva last year.

  • What's Happening in the Bahamas? with Niel Leadon
The Bahamas. A place we all know we want to go to but we rarely hear about when it comes to the environment or wildlife. What's happening out there? What wildlife can you see? What challenges is it facing? Well on this episode I talk with Bahamian activist & conservationist Niel Leadon.
Niel sheds some warm Bahamian sunlight on what wildlife you can see, what issues there are surrounding it whilst also telling us what kind of solutions are often used with these problems. Niel talks specifically about a project he worked on recently where he campaigned to stop oil drilling off the coast of the Bahamas & told me what the outcome of this was.

  • Frogs of New Orleans with Gina Zwicky
If you suffer from nature envy, go into this episode with a little caution, I wish I had! This week I am joined by naturalist, biologist & photographer, Gina Zwicky as we trek through the swamps & over the boardwalks of New Orleans to talk about Frogs & other incredible wildlife in the city.
Gina dives straight in telling me why she has this strong love for our green friends, the variety that can be found around her house & how close they are to her own doorstep. We also learn on an awesome citizen science programme called FrogWatch that supplies families, groups & communities with the tools & opportunities to go looking & hearing out for different frogs in order to collect data. (I love stuff like that).

  • Bonus Episode - Climate Census with Chelsea Webster
In the last couple of weeks, people in England, Wales & Northern Ireland would have received a little piece of paper asking them to take part in the 2021 census. The census is there to get an understanding of households, populations, health statistics, communities etc & this year a new movement has formed to get people to use this to highlight their concern for climate change.
I spoke to founder of Climate Concerned, Chelsea Webster, about what the movement can & will do, how people can take park & what the future projects look like for the movement.

  • Into The Foliage: Spontaneous Plants with Sophie Leguil
Every spring supermarket shelves are disgustingly packed with "weed killer" or "instant weed destroyer" or even "weed gone juice", but as we move with the environmental needs of this planet, isn't it time we embrace these weeds or "spontaneous plants" & use them to their full potential to not only help wildlife, but also help ourselves.
This week Jan & Ryan are joined by horticulturist, botanist & ecologist Sophie Leguil to discuss the world of weeds & how power these plants can be. From the benefits to the what NOT to do in your garden, Sophie opens the lid of the compost bin of plant knowledge to help us see the flower, among the weed.

  • UK Migration & Bird Ringing with Ellie Mayhew
Each year we look forward to different animals arriving to England to say for a period of time in our little confusing island that we call home, but how complex is it? Migration I mean. This week I chat to bird ringer & assistant field worker Ellie Mayhew about animals that migrate & bird ringing.
From the different animals that visit the UK & the reasons why, to how bird ringing being a wonderful & important way to monitor migratory birds, join me as I learn about the animals that travel.

  • Exploring Underwater with Jack Perks
Seeing life underwater isn't something we all get the pleasure of being able to do, yet for this week's Guest, underwater photographer & cameraman Jack Perks, it's just another day at the office.
How did Jack fall in love with life in rivers & ponds, what's the most annoying fish to try & film & how can we get more excited about this environment we rarely encounter. Jack tells me blue space, is just as important as green space.
Jack is also a fellow podcaster, running & hosting The Bearded Tit's Podcast, we briefly speak podcaster to podcaster about how the show came about & where he hopes it will go.

  • Getting Ryan Into Birding Part 1 with Jack Baddams, Indy Greene & Lucy Lapwing
Birding, ergh, birding. There's more birders on the planets than there are birds, you know that right? WHAT IS ALL THE FUSS ABOUT?! I've never understood the world of birds & after one joke tweet about our feathered friends last year, thousands of angry birders & many wind ups later, I decided to dip my toes in the pool of......birds.
I couldn't do it alone though. I needed help. So in this mini series titled, Getting Ryan Into Birding, I'll be talking with Jack Baddams, Indy Greene & Lucy Lapwing, as they take me under their wing (yes that's a pun) to teach me not only how, but why, I should get into birding.

  • Telling the Story with Nina Constable
There's two parts of nature, the absolute beautify & wonder, then there's the story. There's always a story to tell & ensuring that it's told is an important job. One person that knows that better than anyone is award winning documentary filmmaker, Nina Constable.
On this week's show I speak with Nina about how she even gets started on working on projects, what some of the most challenging moments she has encountered are & of course those classic Ryan questions of what some of Nina's favourite moments & projects have been.
I'd advise to grab a cup of coffee & tea & sit back to enjoy a chat with someone who has travelled the world as they tell you about the importance of telling the story of nature.
If you'd like to keep up to date with the projects & work the Nina is working on, you can do so on Instagram & Twitter @Ninaconstable & on Instagram @Ninaconstablemedia.
