How can infinite light enter a finite world without erasing the individuality, limitation, and struggle that make human life possible?

In this concluding episode, Rabbi Joey Rosenfeld explores the Kav—the singular ray of infinite light that enters the empty space created through the tzimtzum. The Kav is itself an impossible paradox: a measured expression of that which cannot be measured, and a finite revelation of the Infinite. It allows the worlds to emerge with real distinctions and levels while remaining connected to the Ohr Ein Sof from which they receive their life.

The Kav does not initially reach the lowest point of the chalal, preserving the experience of distance and the possibility of human avodah. Yet the promise of redemption is that this ray will ultimately descend into the lowest places, revealing that below was never truly disconnected from above. The Kav is identified with Torah, whose finite letters contain and communicate infinite Divine light. It is also the root of kivui—hope—the faith that even where Hashem appears most absent, another ray of light can enter, illuminate the darkness, and reveal the hidden connection that has never been completely lost.

What does it mean to say that Hashem concealed His infinite light—and can Divine absence ever truly be real?

In this episode, Rabbi Joey Rosenfeld enters the first central sugya of the Arizal’s system: the mystery of tzimtzum. Before creation, the light of the Ohr Ein Sof filled all possible existence. In order for a finite world, individual beings, and genuine relationship to emerge, there had to be an apparent empty space—a chalal in which something other than the overwhelming revelation of infinitude could seem to exist.

How can severity, fragmentation, and concealment become the birthplace of freedom, sweetness, and joy?

In this episode, Rabbi Joey Rosenfeld explores the sefirah of Binah as the inner world in which the teachings of the Arizal unfold. Binah stands at the threshold between unity and differentiation: it contains the emerging possibility of fragmentation while remaining rooted in the unity that precedes it. It is therefore both the source of dinim—constriction, severity, and difficulty—and the place where those very dinim can be sweetened and returned to their source.

The Arizal’s ascent from Mitzrayim to Tzfas becomes a model for this transformation. Tzfas represents hiddenness and constriction, but also the concealed storehouses of goodness waiting to be revealed. This is the secret of Yitzchak and holy laughter: the discovery that the darkness was never outside the light, and that descent itself can become the path of return. By learning the Eitz Chaim both downward into concealment and upward toward the Ohr Ein Sof, the apparent heaviness of existence begins to reveal the hidden joy contained within it.
