 With a focus strictly on Hill's interactions with jurors and their ability to reach an impartial verdict, the trial’s scope is markedly limited. This exclusion of peripheral issues like Hill’s alleged embezzlement and the wiretapping scandal involving her son narrows the defense’s path to proving jury tampering. Motta highlighted this constraint: “They're not allowing them to dig into her possible motives, which was the book. All that stuff's out.”

 Even if Murdaugh’s quest for a new trial through this avenue fails, his legal battles are far from over. “There's going to be a direct appeal as well,” Motta assured, indicating the likelihood of further appeals encompassing the entire scope of the original trial.
