Keanu Believe It

Before Mike Mills’ one-two punch of Beginners and 20th Century Women he made his feature debut with Thumbsucker. While not entirely successful, the film shows the voice Mills would fully tap in his later work. Thanks to a stellar cast including Tilda Swinton, Lou Pucci, and Vincent D’Onofrio, and one of the more ingenious castings of Keanu Reeves as a wise orthodontist, it’s worth seeking out. Rob Dean (@neuroticmonkey) joins Sam (@samshotfirst) once again to discuss the film on our all Keanu podcast.

When it was announced that Keanu Reeves would be playing the very British John Constantine many fans of the comic were up in arms and didn’t give the film a proper chance. That is a shame since if you can look past a few changes, Francis Lawrence’s Constantine features one of Keanu’s very best performances. Sam welcomes Ale Gonzalez (@sick__66) back to the show to discuss everything that makes the horror-superhero hybrid, which also features great turns from Rachel Weisz and Tilda Swinton, worth rediscovery.

Keanu Reeves has been in a number of romantic-comedies, though the ones we have covered so far in our all Keanu podcast have been, well, awful. So, it’s with relief that we come to a good one in the form of Nancy Meyers’ Something’s Gotta Give. Sam (@samshotfirst) welcomes back Manish Mathur (@TheManish89) to discuss the film. Keanu is nothing but smolder in this film which co-stars Diane Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Amanda Peet, and Frances McDormand.

Everything that has a beginning has an end, and sadly that includes our episodes on The Matrix trilogy. The third and final entry of The Wachowskis’ blockbuster sci-fi series was widely dismissed upon release but it has its fair share of fans, including the host of our all Keanu podcast Sam (@samshotfirst) and his guests Marcelo Pico (@marcelojpico) and Rob Dean (@neuroticmonkey). So if you’ve ever wanted to hear an hour and a half of praise for this ambitious and beautiful film, you’ve come to the right place!

Fans had to wait four long years to see what became of Neo after embracing his destiny as The One, and we’re sure the wait between Matrix episodes of our all Keanu podcast has been just as painful. Well, the wait is over! Sam (@samshotfirst) is joined by Brendan Foley (@TheTrueBrendanF) and Shak Lambert (@ShakExcellence) for a deep dive into The Matrix Reloaded. Much more divisive than the first film, both among movie lovers and the people on this episode, Reloaded saw The Wachowskis swing big, both in terms of action and storytelling—making it a fascinating film to watch and discuss.
