Keanu Believe It

If you’re going to get someone to coach an inner city little league team, you can’t do much better than superstar Keanu Reeves. Although when Keanu is playing a gambling addicted slacker, I guess you could do a little better. Your host Sam (@SamShotFirst) welcomes back Mike Delaney (@Miked_splat) to discuss the baseball drama Hardball which co-stars Diane Lane and John Hawkes and features Michael B. Jordan in his first prominent role.

The subject of the latest episode of this all Keanu Reeves podcast is Sweet November, which is as schmaltzy a romantic film as they come. Sam (@samshotfirst) welcomes back Laura Sirikul (@lsirkikul) to discuss the film which sees Keanu reunite with his The Devil’s Advocate co-star Charlize Theron. Their chemistry elevates this cliche ridden and tonally confused film, that might just be your cup of tea.

Would you believe me if I told you that Keanu Reeves once played a serial killer who tormented James Spader? Well, it’s true! The movie is called The Watcher and it’s about as much of a misfire as you’d expect. Fortunately, it’s so absurd and ill-conceived that it’s a hell of a lot of fun to talk about. That’s where your host Sam (@samshotfirst) and his returning guest Adrian Torres (@YoAdrianTorres) come in! Listen as they try to make sense of this bizarre thing that is technically a movie.

How does an actor follow one of the most iconic movies of their career? A role that launched them into the upper stratosphere of movie stardom? Well, in Keanu Reeves’ case, he followed playing Neo in The Matrix with playing a down-on-his-luck quarterback in The Replacements. Sam (@samshotfirst) is joined by his guest Mike (@TheMike31) to discuss the 2000 football comedy. Listen as they cover topics ranging from football history, to ill-advised needle drops, to which Keanu hairstyle is the best Keanu hairstyle

Are you ready to see how deep the rabbit hole goes? That’s right, folks, it’s time at last to enter The Matrix. If it isn’t clear from how every episode of our Keanu Reeves podcast begins and ends, we are fairly fond of the Wachowskis science-fiction masterpiece around these parts. Sam (@samshotfirst) is joined by special guests Greg MacLennan (@themaclennan) and Mo Shafeek (@moshafeek) to discuss the film, its impact, and how the role of Neo is one Keanu was born to play.

Please allow us to introduce you to this episode of our all Keanu Reeves podcast. The year was 1997 and Keanu played a lawyer who went to work for Satan, who was played by Al Pacino. That’s right, we are covering The Devil’s Advocate. Sam (@samshotfirst) welcomes back Sean Beattie (@VindicaSean) to explore the trashy recesses of this wonderfully twisted psychological horror film.

If you were expecting a movie called Chain Reaction starring Keanu Reeves to be any genre, you’d expect a bonkers action movie. Well, it’s not that and that’s just the first confounding part of this movie. Diego Crespo (@deggowaffles) joins host Sam (@samshotfirst) on our all-Keanu podcast to discuss the many technically competent, but oh so bewildering, things in the sci-fi “thriller” which co-stars Morgan Freeman, Rachel Weisz, and Brian Cox.

On this episode of our podcast devoted to Keanu Reeves, things get romantic. A much more successful period romance from Keanu than Tune in Tomorrow…, A Walk in the Clouds is a charming and sincere film with an appropriately smoldering performance from our guy. Sam (@samshotfirst) welcomes Lexy Van Dyke (@Lexy_Myranda) to discuss the 1995 romantic drama. They chat about the stunning early work from Academy Award-winning cinematographer Emmanuel Lubezki, a fine performance from the legendary Anthony Quinn, and lots of shots of a sweaty Keanu.

Cyberpunk films are a surprisingly rare occurrence, and on this installment of our Keanu Reeves podcast, we take a look at one of the weirdest and most famous (or infamous?) examples of the subgenre. Your host Sam (@samshotfirst) is joined by Danielle Ryan (@danirat) to discuss Johnny Mnemonic, a true artifact of the mid-90s. The movie doesn’t really work but it’s hard not to enjoy the insanity and, as always, Keanu came to play. Upgrade your brains and listen.
