Have you ever thought about how the art in museums, our monuments, and public art – are mostly made by and for men? And did you know that underrepresentation can foster feelings of inferiority and perpetuate implicit biases? How do we teach our girls to recognize and understand why this is, so they aren't subconsciously limiting themselves by what they see?
In Episode 19 of “Know Them, Be Them, Raise Them,” Neysa Page-Lieberman, Monuments to Movement co-founder and co-artistic director, and a curator, lecturer, writer, educator, tackles representation in public art. She chats with host Carmelita Tiu about her work, the Monuments to Movement project, and the importance of seeing public works that reflect the diversity and richness of our communities.

The end of the year always triggers look-backs and goal-setting for the future. If you're like most moms and high achievers, the new year comes with excitement, some trepidation, and some guilt that your previous year's goals didn't play out the way you thought they would (or guilt because not everything on your to-do list has been checked off).
In this episode, host Carmelita Tiu shares some thoughts on how to shift our mindsets around failure (in big or small ways):
These quick tips nudge us to show ourselves some compassion, and allow us to celebrate how far we've come.

What does it mean to be creative? How do we raise good kids? What does a mom of 3 grown daughters wish she knew back then, or know for sure now?
My guest this week, and the second featured “mom who’s been there”, is Melissa Ohlman-Roberge. Melissa is the mom of 3 daughters, ages 29, 26 and 24 as well as their dog, Zoe, and is partner to husband Kevin, who dabbles on the stage when not running his staffing business. She calls herself a “creative instigator” who thrives on the energy of the creative process as it unfolds in real time. She has worked as a theater artist and educator for more than 30 years. In addition, Melissa is a visual artist focusing on mixed media collage and printing.
In this episode, Melissa shares her hard-earned wisdom as an educator and mom, and the importance of creativity as an everyday approach, as well as tips for moms of tween & teen girls today.
