Knowing is Half the Podcast

I'll say this out loud, the heroes from the movie Ladyhawke have an easier time coordinating their schedules than we do.

So....we are pulling from the Patreon Super Secret Vault for this week's episode!

Solarman was a Marvel Pilot that was supposed to reach great heights...and then didn't.

This episode comes from the week where Stan Lee sadly left us, and so consider this episode a late memorial from all of us here at Knowing is Half the Podcast!

Enjoy! And if you enjoyed this episode, consider supporting us on Patreon to gain access to more episodes like this one?

Hoo boy! You thought things were strange before? GI Joe was the shallow end of the pool. We’ll be coming back to some of the many other iterations of GI Joe, but we’ll also be bringing guests with the weird cartoons from *their* childhood.

This week it’s Heather Woodward - writer and co-star on The Elite Daily Show! She brought us something we’ve been eyeballing for a while. It’s an anti-drug PSA from 1990 featuring an unholy mashup of characters: the Muppet Babies, ALF, Garfield, Winnie the Pooh, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (just Michelangelo, the narc), Bugs Bunny and even more. EVEN MORE. It’s a hot mess and we haven’t even talked about THE PRESIDENT OF THE DAMN UNITED STATES (at the time) INTRODUCING THIS THING.

The whole episode is bananas. Watch it on YouTube at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5hz1UaEVyoo. I’d like to say don’t watch it because it’s terrible, but Gina actually thought it was okay, so who knows? You might like it.

Brian Rubinow (Fat Wolf, The Night Cap with Stacy Rumaker) joins us with his childhood obsession. It’s a cartoon based on an NES video game called “Defenders of Dynatron City”. The game tanked, so only a single episode was ever produced, but it made an impression nevertheless.

Featuring luminaries like Whoopi Goldberg and Tim Curry, you’d be forgiven if you thought this was set in the Fallout universe. Despite all that, Ray is less than impressed, while Chan is quite smitten. Pink slime, Chan and Dr. Mayhem bond over a shared method of utility bill payment, and is that a foreshadow of a possible future Little Shop of Horrors episode?

Review us on iTunes and check out our Patreon page where we’ve got more than 200 episodes - including the entirety of the original ‘80s run of G.I. Joe! Thanks for listening!

This isn’t your grandfather’s Jem! We have Stacy Rumaker (The Night Cap with Stacy Rumaker) who was afraid to bring on a “girl” cartoon - but it turns out Jem is so much more.

Be prepared - even if you didn’t watch Jem, you recognize that theme song. But this is a season 3 ep, so it’s a completely different (and truly dreadful) tune. Stacy fills us in on the (literal) magic of Jerrica Benton while Chan pines for The Misfits, Gina laments the plight of huge women (dolls), and there’s an extended discussion about Fudgie the Whale because … reasons?

Plus, this is a Buzz Dixon episode! could it get any better? That was a rhetorical question! No it can’t! Follow us on Twitter @GIJoePodcast as well as the completely unrelated and in no way Ray writing as Trump analogue Serpentor @PrezSerpentor. Thanks for listening!

We’ve got Nicole Villela sitting in for Gina to welcome stand-up Hana Michels! And Gina’s gonna regret missing this one because we’re talking about one of her favorites: Garfield and Friends!

Don’t worry - it’s Robodie 2, but you don’t need to have seen Robodie 1 to keep up. It *would* be helpful to know about the Charles Schultz Museum, the Tone Loc classic “Funky Cold Medina”, and proper legal procedures for the permitting of caves on public property.

So get to researching! But first Like, subscribe, and do all that stuff. Thanks for listening!

How did we get from Strawberry Shortcake from G.I. Joe? As Ray would say: Don't worry about that. Instead, enjoy Erika Curry, co-host of The Scramble, as we navigate the sweet, sweet waters of Strawberry Valley.

Who’s the real villain here? Is it the codependent couple of the Purple Pie Man and Sour Grapes? Or is it the cryptofascist Strawberry Shortcake? We talk about grass knolls, sticky pies, and Angel Food’s nearly sociopathic fat-shaming.

All that and did Strawberry ever front punk/metal pioneers Suicidal Tendencies? Listen and find out! Unless, of course, you’re such a physical coward.

It’s our first non-cartoon episode and, once again, we’ve achieved new levels of weirdness. Taylor Orci brings us a slapdash Disney show (filmed iat Disneyworld) from the early ‘90s that manages to be embarrassingly dated and racist in a way that makes it, arguably, the second worst shooting in Florida.

We’ve got rollerblades and hip-hop and how can the songs be so awful with the genius of Mark Mothersbaugh involved? Maybe we can get Alice to use her CSI-skills to bring the perpetrator of this to justice.

Join us for the madness - and Like us on Facebook to stay mad all week long. Thanks for listening!

We’re bringing you Halloween a week early courtesy of the heroes in a half-shell! Tommy Bechtold launches himself into the upper echelons of KIHTP guests by bringing Ray a gift!

We talk Gallagher, submarines, the hazards of going to a costume party as yourself, plus … forbidden desires. WHO secretly yearns for that “annoying woman” Irma? Well, you gotta listen to find out.

Subscribe in the usual places, follow and like in the usual places, scrub in the *unusual* places because that’s probably where that smell is coming from. And thanks for listening!

Things are all topsy-turvy, but we still have a new episode for you! Samir Forghani joins us and he brings a classic of Canadian TV and somewhat/completely incomprehensible to us Americans: ReBoot!

This episode has everything - assuming the only thing you want is Army of Darkness and Evil Dead references! To be perfectly frank, most of the time was spent trying to figure out just what the hell is going on in this cartoon.

What could be more Halloweeny than ghosts, ripping off masks, and deeply uncomfortable charges of racism? Nicole Villela sits in for Gina and special guest Amy Spalding has brought us a classic episode of Scooby Doo!

Not that it’s all her fault - she suggested Scooby Doo and Chan went looking for the WORST episode. Did he find it? Listen and find out! It was made in the late ‘60s if that’s any clue.

This one’s got it all! Entitled white girls, insane car chases set to bubblegum pop, and just when you think “Okay, well maybe this episode isn’t so bad,” here comes the Chinese restaurant bit! It’s wonderful. It’s awful. It’s wondawful!

Amy is a legit author, so check out her stuff at www.theamyspalding.com. Or, why not buy her books from our Amazon link? Thanks for listening!
